The Open Boat

lol @ Kimba saying donkeyballs! That’s in my lexicon, now.

YAY! A balance beam! That’s the awesomest gift EVER!

And MiM, I showed up to Mother’s Day with “myself” as a gift - which would’ve been cute if I were 7.

Mim: Sorry hubby wasn’t around to rally the kids to make your day special. HOpe you took some time to be sweet to yourself.

Nikki: The best present is seeing my boys working together. It’s very cute.

Frenchie: We enjoy each other–which makes living together easy.

Kimba: I’m kinda of grasping at straws with the DL. My hips were doing better before DLing. So, I figure maybe there is some movement going on–agressive bar humping–(I do get off on DLing)–that is aggravating my poor hip flexors. Whiney fuckers that they are.

Arachne: Slack line sounds fun too!

Alexus, Brute, Puff: There will be vids, but my talents on the beam are quite limited. It still will be fun though!

Snap: My birthday is in OCt–and a high rep DL set from you sounds like a lovely gift. That’s nice your daughter has a beam. I was never allowed to do gymnastics in the house. I was one of 4 though, and it was a noisy and crowded house.

N8tive: I don’t know? You lead, and I’ll chase you.

Masch: I remember how you were there with your mother when she needed you. I’m sure she does too. Mother’s Day is just a greeting card holiday.

3-3-3 Bench today.

Made it a jack shit day. I’d rather read your logs than type that shit up.

Hip rehab stuff.
3 mile run.

Played on my beam.

This should be the TKE video for Kimba. Innovative Knee Rehabilitation - Dynamic TKE's - Injury Rehab - Fix Knee Problems - YouTube

Here’s my 1st at home beam workout. In case you didn’t know, beams are for jumping on.

Snap: If your daugther doesn’t jump rope on hers–she should start–it will really help her skill and confidence when she starts tumbling on the beam.

oh my god…you did NOT disappoint with the first beam vid!! You’re so talented!! Memorizing Nadia

yes, I bought myself some daisies…but I had to take ‘them,’ with me. And my loving sweet daughter was shouting ‘WIENER!!!,’ at random times throughout the store. good times. I get a do over when the hubby gets back… He’s taking them camping and I get to camp on the couch

your beam video is NUTS! and i mean that in a good way. Your training is so versatile…

Sad but true: I can’t even skip normally with both feet at the same time.
That’s some impressive stuff, Ms Thing.

Loved the balance beam video! I’m with Cal…I probably couldn’t do that on the flat ground.

TKEs plus a bunch of knee rehab is where I’m at right now. Thanks for the videos.

lol I just tried jumping rope on the ground for the first time since I was a kid. It was fucking harder than I remember! backwards jumping down the beam = awesome.

I used to have balance beam jump roping skillz, and I plan on getting them back!

Deleted work rant. I’m breathing now.

Aww I love the vid! So cute that you used it right away =D
I can barely jump rope on the ground, much less on a beam.

Deleted my comment towards Nadia’s rant, for privacy reasons =D

What an awesome present!
Balance beam jump rope is a pretty cool skill to have.

Congratulations on the floor beam. AWESOME gift. Love the vid too.

You have great legs Nads!

Keep up the good work

wow. i never thought to skip on a beam. see why it is a good skill to have, though. i might give skipping a go on the ground

Brute, You’re sweet. Thank you!

Mim, Your daughter is funny. I’m glad it’s not just my kids who revel in inappropriateness. I blame their father.

Cal, Oddly I didn’t even think to try jumping rope on the floor first. Right on the beam I went. Sometimes I forget I’m not 13 anymore.

Bre, I bet you’ll get your jump roping skills back soon. I’d be practicing every day, but the activity seems to have aggravated my sciatica. How can I feel both so old and so young at the same time?

Nikki, Lucky you got to read my rant before I deleted it. It just took me a minute to remember that all that matters is what I do. I’m just going to keep my head down and keep doing my thing.

Laststand, Balance and my coordination FTW. I have a ways to go, but I think I’ll improve quickly.

Thanks Veggie, I would have loved to have a floor beam when I was a kid…and now I finally do. It’s fun.

Alexus, Jumping rope is kinda fun. I haven’t done it in a really long time. It doesn’t even feel like conditioning.

Training Thursday

4 mile run- 36:39-9:08 min/mile.

Training Friday

Today was my 3-3-3 DL day, but I decided to squat instead. I’ve been very neglectful of squats, having sacrificed them in the name of my hip problems. I need to stop doing that–neglecting my weak spots to focus on my strengths. Stupid, stupid, stupid. So, from now until my squats don’t suck, I’m all about them. I’m really curious to see if, with a dedicated and concerted effort, I have any aptitude at all for them. I’m hoping yes.

A shit ton of hip rehab stuff–tkes and some balance work x 3 sets.

BW Bulgarian split squats 10x6
BW squats x100
Step upsx 100 (50 per leg)
one legged deck squats (attempts)

Squats (no 5-3-1–just trying to figure out where I am)
Barx5
65x5
95x5
115x5
125x5 SlOW

I deleted my comment since you deleted your rant =D

But I meant it, and if you do as you say and keep doing your thing, it’ll be worth it. The good thing about when you feel that things are at their worst, you can only go up from there.

Jump rope doesn’t feel like conditioning! It’s just pure fun. Burns calories like a mofo though. That’s just an added bonus.
I love that you’re focusing on your weakness. Attagirl! The squats look good too.

Ahhh, that balance beam video brings back some painful memories—My coaches used to make us do that as a part of beam warm up, and on more than one occasion I crotched the beam. owie. Good for you to keep at it though-I love watching your videos–you’ve really got great lines. Way to focus on your weak spots—it’s not nearly as much fun as working on the strong stuff, but eventually the weak turns strong.

oh and hai

I’ve neglected my squat so badly that the law should be after me. Good for you for doing rehab PlUS hard lifting stuff.

If it’s not one thing, its another apparently. Sorry about the sciatica flare-up.

I’m putting money on it. Is there anything lifting-wise that you don’t have an aptitude for?

Nikki: Focusing on my weaknesses is not one of my strengths, but I think I’m finally ready to go there. Thanks for the atta girl!

Hi Cholulalula! Thanks for reading. And thanks for the compliment regarding my lines. Trying to do gymnastics again has been quite the experience. I’m having a lot of fun with it, but I really have to be patient with myself. It’s not at all easy on my body. What does your training look like now? Gymnasts are tough–especially those who straddle the beam more than once–I’m sure you’re rocking it! OUCH.

Kimba: I haven’t figured out how I’m going to get my squat up, but I think I’m going to play with frequency. Maybe a few easy light sets on my non squatting days as part of a general warm up, a quick set of bw squats before I run or after I run or something. I need to get comfortable and confident with that movement pattern, and a frequency model of training really builds confidence for me.

Ksnap: I appreciate your confidence in me. It’s really funny, but I’m constantly measuring myself against my athletic achievements as a child, and I come up short. You see my potential. I see my lost potential. These past two years that I have been training I have been driven to prove that my best days as an athlete are not behind me. But I haven’t been able to do it. Not yet anyway.
