damn those rows!
Very nice to see you go up on your bench #'s. You’re working that 105. Nice job on the rows too.
105! I knew it. I’ll bet there is more there for the next time you try singles.
Run, run like the wind tomorrow. Wish I could join you.
Great job on the benching!
I’m with you Nadia - I’ll sleep when I die and for me its quality over quantity that makes all the difference. I can live off of a good 6 hours of sleep, but 7 is always optimal.
Good for you for taking the days off - Bust your nut too soon and all your left with is a bitter woman.
Damn good rowing!! Default PR is like my MO. HAH! I’m such a noob.
Really impressive bench singles and row reps. I mean, that’s a lot of weight! I’ll take it. Any day.
Print: I’m sure the extra time off helped and squatting wrecks me for days. So, missing a squat workout plus bagging the running makes for a lot of stored energy. I read the q/a over at a elitefts, and I think with the running and the gymnastics (and my age), I’m a prime candidate for scaling back to a 2 or 3 day a week template. I’m not sure why I haven’t–some winning combination of stupid and stubborn. It’s hard for me to move my thinking away from volume as a the prime measure of intensity.
Cal and Frenchie: Hmm, I had no idea my rows were strong. For some reason, I thought you should row more than you bench or the two should at least be comparable. But, that’s not true? Anyway, I’ve been using 5-3-1 to program them for the last few months, so I have been making steady gains with them.
Veggie: I’m getting more confident with the bench. That, and I had an awesome bloat from a dinner of chinese food.
Kimba: When restarting 5-3-1 back in November, I really thought that I had a good chance to hit 100x1, but I thought I’d have to reset there. 5-3-1 is really working for me right now, I think the wall is right there, but then damn adaptation is a remarkable thing.
Thanks laststand!
Maschy: Hip flexor is much improved. A few days off has really made the difference. I can now hit my preferred sexual position without pain. I’ll hit the road later today. Hopefully running won’t aggravate it either.
Thanks Snap. I’ve begun to enjoy benching. And I’m really happy with the triple digit bench–unfortunately as my bench numbers have gone up so has my weight. I’m not 110 lbs like you and kimba. Even with the 105, I’m a good 15 and possibly as many as 20lbs away from a bw bench. Am I making progress?

Training is delayed because I have to take my son to the ear doc today. He failed his hearing screening at school. Keeping his ears free of fluid and working has been an ongoing and long term struggle. We’ve had tonsils and adenoids out and tubes put in. I thought (hoped) he had finally outgrown this problem. Perhaps not yet.
But, on a happier note. Today, I get to eat chocolate. I gave it up in Feb. Mostly because my kids teased me because I would eat all the cookies and they didn’t think that I could. Well, I did. The bad news is I’m fatter for it. I mean sometimes you just want a cookie and nothing else will do. I seemed to have had a lot of those days. So, I’m on a chocolate bender today.
Oh no! Sorry to hear about your son. But I’m glad ‘re on top of it and taking good care of the youngin’. I’m wishing for the best ![]()
Hmm…your favorite sexual position…The Houdini? The ‘Meadow’ Prone Cobra? The Jerry Rig Cream Pie? TELL US!
You seriously might be the only person to get fatter when NOT eating cookies. Who are you?
I hate hearing that you have to ‘scale’ things back (mostly because I feel we are one in the same in our attempts to do too much!), but you know what’s best and if your gains are suffering, then scaling it back is indeed what is best.
Happy running!
Awesome bench PR, hot damn.
Wicked session, and I hope the handsome son’s gonna be fine.
You should be able to row as much, if not more than you bench, but most people can’t. I think a lot of that reason is that it’s much easier to lie down on a comfy bench than it is to bend over, putting a lot of stress on the lower back as well as the muscles you’re actually meant to be training.
Anyway, sorry to hear about your son (no pun intended…). Is it glue ear? There’s a couple of kids with that at school - they seem to cope. My other half had terrible hearing problems as a child and actually has only 30% hearing in one ear and 70% in the other but you wouldn’t know it to talk to him. In most cases, though, it clears up.
As for the cookies, it might have something to do with leptin. Or else you just have a contrary metabolism. Either way, I’m somewhat envious, being on my low carb diet as I am.
I’m running the 3 day week template w/the BBB. It can wear you down. I appreciate the days off & when I do a Mon/Wed/Fri. run, the weekend is perfect for recoup, eating, sleeping, drinking. I think you’re going to see a jump in all your numbers w/the xtra rest.
As for your little man, no worries, been through it. You’ll notice a big increase in hearing when the tubes fall out. Seems to be a trend w/this. The tubes don’t necessarily give an immediate ‘Ahhh I can hear now’ signal. Once the ear canals start growing & the tubes fall out you’ll see a remarkable difference. It’s nice having the adenoids out so you’re not dealing w/a slobbering pup anymore. Amoxiacillin- Breakfast of champions.
Hope he gets squared away.
all I saw was cookies. and chocolate.
sorry

Thanks for the concern about my son. The good news is that he doesn’t need to have the tubes put back in his ears. So, I’m happy about that–no surgery. He can hear with his right ear, but not his left because of an infection and a goodly amount of inflammation. Apparently, his ear drum is retracted because of the pressure. We were sent home with a couple of scripts, and a 3 week return visit. He’s 7 (almost 8) and a smart kid, totally verbal, but stoic as hell. Sitting in that drs chair he completely denied having any pain or any hearing loss. His dr just looked at me and shook his head.
Masch: I really enjoy my workouts. I feel about rest days and deload weeks the same way I feel about sleeping. And you’re right, we share the same struggle of trying to find time to fit in all of our activities and allow for rest. Right now (before I hurt my hip flexor anyway), I was running 4x a week, lifting 4x a week, and then I tried to add in one day of gymnastics. That proved to be too much. But, before the gymnastics was added in, it had been working. I’ve been setting prs in the gym and my 5k time was as good as it has been since I was a kid. Ideally, I can continue to manage that pace. But, I take my minor tweaks pretty seriously. Pushing to the point of breaking is not a good way to get stronger. I don’t know what the right balance is or how or if I’m going to moderate my training.
Hi Nikki: Yeah, I’m really starting to feel the bench. And it feels good.
Cal: The reason I gained weight not eating cookies is because I ate more. Sometimes, it’s better to eat whatever it is that you want and be done with it–even if that is a cookie. That’s my theory anyway.
Print: I’m not certain that I’m going to drop to a 3x a week schedule, but I am considering it. The doms from squatting and dling in the same week get pretty old.

5-3-1 Deadlift day
I tried to go for an easy 4 mile run to warm up, but I didn’t make it a block before I came up lame. I don’t know what the fuck my problem was. My hip flexor didn’t hurt, but my groin did. Hmm, maybe I wasn’t adequately warmed up. I don’t know. But, I didn’t feel good or right. So, damn.
But, I followed that weak ass attempt at running with an awesome DL day.
DLS
barx10
135x10
160x5
180x3
200x11 (default pr, but compared to my 195x10 on my last 5-3-1 week these reps flew up and my form didn’t totally suck).
Heavy singles
215x1
225x1 finally! I’ve missed this lift the past 2 times I went for it.
235x1 (10lb pr).
BBB Dls 145x10 x5 supersetted with BWx10 HLR and BWx10 GHR
Nice DL work! PR!
And welcome back to the world of chocolate.

you missed the sex position talk?
still waiting.
yes your rows are strong. for some reason i thought a similar thing about horizontal push-pull. i thought that once i got a chin-up or a pull-up i might be able to press my bodyweight. turns out not to be the case… still not quite sure why, though, since i’ve heard one should aim for vertical push-pull to be roughly even…
um, weird question: did your son complain about having a sore tummy with his ear thing?
some great training. hope your groin is alright and your hip flexor stays alright.
wow!!! great benching and dls!!! :D!
…wait a minute…if you pulled 200 for 11, i think you have a much higher max then 235…![]()
you are a powerhouse!
I hear ya. You’re being very smart with your training, and that says a lot.
Nice DLs!!
Your PR & BBB’s are incredibly HAWT! Start calling you the ‘Pulling Princess.’

I’ve been saying from the start that your [Nadia’s] maxes are set too low. But you’re a self-admitted rep whore and like it that way. So carry on.
I must say, though, that you are very strong. I think it’s all a muscle fiber thingy though. I just can’t do that many reps of anything but can do doubles, triples, and singles till the cows come home.
