The average game you might touch the ball 15 times score shoot 15 baskets and dribble 50 seconds for a 15 minute game.
Practicing your sport you will do that in 2 minutes, if your good 1.

I agree with this. It is also why I think that putting too much emphasis on being in a competitive season is detrimental to athletes. In your competitive season, the goal of the coach is usually to make the team better and many coaches just use endless variations of “game situation” or scrimmage drills in which, as you said, the actual amount of repetitions performing the skills is limited.

Having a off-season where you can dedicate yourself to getting better athletically and learning the skills of the game will make the time you spend in your competitive season much more productive and you will have a much greater skill base to assimilate into the team setting.

karl marlone never touch a bb in the offseason.[/quote]

exactly. But did he lose his touch? no
did he get stronger yes.

I played bball in highschool and college before converting to football and ill tell you if i would have not waisted every single day working on ball handling drills and jump shots and focused an offseason on getting stronger which in turn would have improved my speed agility and most of all vertical i would have been a much better player.

bball players dont need to do aau and every single league in the offseason. working on jumpers and ballhandling 2-3 times a week on off days just to keep good form and feeling of the movement is perfect. there will be PLENTY of time to focus all of your time on those things. but offseason needs to be used to get stronger, faster, higher

someone touched on it already, but y do you think all these NBA atheletes are always missing game after game after game. bball isnt a contact sport. its very soft compared to football yet so many more injuries happen in bball then football. its because they play all year round and dont give there body a proper break from the game. that not only leads to injuries but stagnates any offseason training there doing.

im gonna train to get stronger this offseason. somethin i shoulda done every offseason.

however, do you guys think i should add in some sprints? i will be practicing bball for some team just once a week though (monday).

will just working on strength alone get me faster?

working on strength alone absolutely will get you faster without sprints. especially if your strength defecient. i just ran a 4.37 40yd dash the other day and havent ran any sprints up to 2 1/2 months prior. although on sundays i play in a rough touch league to work on patterns and catching the ball
