The Obsession

I’m not obsessed to the point that it’s actually ruining my life, but people are laughing because they percieve me as spending too much time in the gym. Although I train an hour a day 3-4 days a week, there’s always this stigma on people who can actually lift 2x their bodyweight.

I think about weights all the time as long as I can’t think of anything else, but it ain’t stopping me from prioritizing the right thing. If family and studies get in the way of my weights, I’ll drop the weights.

You mean an eccentric rep, under control, right?

obsessed is a word the lazy use to describe the dedicated

i’m obsessed to :stuck_out_tongue:

i get kind of a weird sensation when i am the only one at the gym at 11:30 pm on a friday and saturday night, it’s amazing and i dont know why, i guess its knowing everyone else is out getting fat and not doing anything while im in the gym pushing forward and bettering myself. i’m not gonna lie, i go out afterwards, but i feel a lot less guilty :P
I actually love that feeling. I love going to the gym or going to the track and running sprints on a friday or saturday night BEFORE I hit the clubs.

Does anyone else get that endorphin high from lifting weights? or running? I used to get it all the time when I run sprints. It’s literally addicting…

Yeah, I get that too. It’s like a massage for the muscles and the harder you bust it in the gym/field/track-the better it feels afterwards-physically and psychologically. Then you know it’s time to eat, relax and grow…

yes, i get that high. to be perfectly honest, i am getting absolutely sick and tired of the whole production of going out anyway, i would be perfectly content lifting weights twice a day eating a lot and then studying, but for whatever reason, college life has morphed into this thing where everyone goes out to bars, spends money on drinks, and then makes asses out of themselves.

the guys try and hit on stuck up sluts, and the sluts usually end up fucking the goofiest guy in the bar because his dad owns a boat. It’s a ridiculous and hilarious cycle, but its getting old.

Diesel,

There are unlimited places to go out on weekend nights that don’t involve alcohol.

College life is what you want it to be. An alcohol study at my university (University of Washington - Seattle) showed that a significant majority of students did not engage in binge drinking.

This may be a different discussion, but do you really think that the hot girls that go to bars are all sluts? The fact of the matter is that they are just more attractive and thus have a much larger selection of mates to choose from.

Perhaps they are “stuck up” or perhaps they are just tired of lame dudes with no women skills approaching them constantly, forcing them to act like a bitch to weed out the boring guys. When a good guy comes along (whether he has the looks, the money, or the charm), she can get lost in her emotions or find herself fucking in the heat of the moment.

I do agree that there are too many drunk idiots doing stupid shit, but I try to enjoy it by laughing at how pathetic they are.

More importantly, Friday and Saturday nights are not all about drinking. You could go to a bar, not buy any drinks, and hit on drunk girls. Not only would it be fun, but you would definitely get a lot better with women. Or there are the other plethora of things to do…dancing, movies, concerts, sporting events, romantic picnic under the stars with Chris Shugart’s recipes etc.

Like all you guys, I’ve got “Biggorexia” or whatever they call it. I’m obsessed to the point where I can’t wait to throw my scrubs in the laundry at the hospital where I work, throw shoes on and jet to the gym down the street to destroy my body.

Some people drop acid, jump out of planes, drink and drive to get high. I’d say most of us here are addicted to the best thing in the world.

i agree man, but i think that the college scene in seatle might differ greatly from that of clemson, sc. Down here fraternity’s and sorority’s area big thing, and for whatever reason the main thing they do is binge drink. Hell, even if youre not greek, everyone still does the same thing.

Everyone in my fraternity is always shat faced, even on something like a tuesday. I would be more than happy to find a girl who would be perfectly happy doing more mature things then just going downtown or going to our frat party’s every week, but unfortunately i have yet to meet a girl like that.

Now i agree not all girls are slut, i truely hold true to the fact that there are like 5% of girls out there that are worth a shit, and currently, based on my observations of my 4 years in college, most girls are sluts, or just act like sluts.

I have come to the conclusion that most girls like that will stop being sluts when they turn 24 because they are out of college and realize they will need a husband and being a slut won’t cut it anymore.

I find the worst is when I am angry, depressed, or stressed out about something. It totally takes away my concentration and motivation. I always do it anyways though. :stuck_out_tongue:

really? its the opposite for me, i use that as fuel.

I study full time, spend time with my girlfriend/daughter/dog/friends, read books on pretty much everything and go out when I feel like it, but people STILL tell me I’m obsessed with lifting. I only lift for 2hrs total a week.

I don’t even think about it much when I’m not in the gym. Just because I’ve gained nearly 30lb muscle in 2 years of training and eat 5-6 times day, people assumed I’m obsessed. Stupid.

Has anyone reached a level yet where you count down the minutes each day until you can go to the gym? Or that the gym makes you completely happy and melts away the worries of whatever other bullshit is going on? Or do you even find yourself putting the gym before certain other things because of the utility you gain from it?

I dunno, I think I’ve gotten a little bit obsessed and I absolutely love it, anyone else?
I got totally obsessed about 10 years ago…I still count the minutes which is about 69 from the momenet I posted this. I was “into it” about 16 years ago, but the train really left the tracks about 10 years ago.

I am still not tired of it. What is funny though is the older I get the less my “peers” get why I am so into it. I look at their guts and I know exactly why I do it. I am to damn young to give up.
