Just thought id share a humorous little thing that happened in the gym yesterday:
My friend and I have been doing ??starting strength?? and we have spent the last 5 weeks in an ironclad routine. Monday Wed Fri.
Every Monday(and usually only monday) we took special note of two guys.
Number 1) ??the bencher?? ?? looks pretty solid, get on the bench, loads it up, lies back, then BAM his hips fly off the bench and he starts lifting one leg off the ground and contorts his body using his strongest side to get the weight up.
Ive heard of back arching before but only this guy’s neck is touching the bench.
Number 2) the original half rep hero. This guy is a total size king. Its okay that he has man boobs because he lifts ( a little more ) than the other people around him.
He loads 60 or so pounds onto his dip belt, climbs up onto the bars and then proceeds to do what I would call ??blinking??.
Oh wait! That was a rep!
I would think his ample bulk would be dip exercise enough if he broke a vertical line, let alone parallel.
Now, yesterday these two guys ?? previously separate entities, were heard by my mate conspiring in the corner.
They derisively looked over their shoulders at us and snickered at our back squats. And my friend actually heard them agree ?? that they don??t squat?…and wait for it??…because its bad for your back!
So just remember everyone, whilst you are condemning those around you for their poor form and exercise choices ?? they are doing the exact same thing about yours!
I saw a guy in the gym today who was doing dips that looked more like shoulder shrugs, the thing that really got me is he was with a personal trainer who was telling him he was doing a nice job. Dumb ass.

I saw a similar thing yesterday, spotter saying good job to the guy doing the exercise wrong. It was two guys doing squats in the power rack. So far, so good. The one problem i noticed immediately was that both of them were kyphotic due to no pulling exercises, and they’re shoulders were obviously rounded forward. But, they were squatting.
I watched during my 60 second rest period, and they were squatting 315 to a box. I’m 6’6" and the box was set too high for me, and these guys were 5’8"and 5’11" maybe. They both proceeded to cheer each other on while doing 1/4 box squats. The other thing they kept saying was “Up, come one, up, come on, up.” I wanted to to tell them they were already “up.” They never went “down.”
I didn’t though, i kept my rest periods tight and finished my session, but I laughed to myself.

That is actually and exercise, but I doubt they were trying to do what you described. Dip shrugs will hit the serratus anterior among other things.
