The Nineties: When the Gene Pool Was at Its Finest

Can’t forget one of my favorites: soap-opera handsome, womanizing Dennis Newman!

He looks a LOT like Dennis Quaid in that pic!

If I remember correctly, he admitted to he and Shawn Ray and Paul Dilet being homewreckers!

In what way? Using the bathroom?

lol

Seriously though, did he mean all 3 at once? Poor woman!

Well if I have it right, Dillet was one of the men written about in T-Nation’s Dead Pool series. He cheated on his wife or live-in girlfriend (can’t remember what the arrangement was) and was known to shag a lot of women.

If I remember correctly, Dennis Newman spoke of Shawn Ray and Paul Dillet getting numbers, and even shagging, other men’s broads with the men not too far by.

Christ, look at this lineup.

One of my favorites, Mike Francois.

Nice to see this thread bumped. I was just talking about 90’s BBers the other day myself. We should do a little “where are they now?” game.

Wherever they are now I doubt most of them are looking or doing as well as Yates these days

It’s good to be the King -lol

No joke, Yates has still got it.

(From last year, but still. Looking ridiculously solid.)

Dillet, from I believe just last month, on the other hand:

One of my old favorites: Aaron Maddron

The quality back then was just crazy!

You guys know videos like this were aimed at a female audience.

Just to continue this line of thought…

One of my personal faves above. Gunter, from this past October. Kinda weird that his upper arms seem about as big as his forearms (or vice versa) now.

And Cormier from last year. Another favorite who I think gets lost in the shuffle with so many great guys from that era. A few years ago, during a comeback attempt, he had some big health issues (back injury and spinal infection). Glad to see he seems pretty much all sorted out:

I ran into Cormier at last year’s NY Pro. Chatted a bit as we were waiting for our cars in the nearby garage. I’ll tell ya, he’s still sporting the fanny pack and velour jumpsuit look that was almost standard issue way back when.

Nice guy. Low key, willing to just chit chat. Back in the 90’s though, he was one of my favorite physiques. I always thought he was either overlooked, or just wasn’t as serious with his preps as other competitors seemed to be.

Might have been because he was more serious about skirt chasing.

I’m glad you know now.

There’s something I myself don’t know and perhaps you can inform me properly.

Do I have to be an expert to be a fan of yesteryear more so than today?

How about another? Are you this verbal to people minding their business yet don’t share your opinions or thoughts in real life?

the entire premise of this thread is flawed… the “gene pool” wasn’t at its finest during the 90’s.

nowadays judging is more skewed towards size over condition, proportion, and symmetry (I.E. kuclo beating Beyeke in Brazil earlier this year)… this has resulted in a lot of guys losing their genetic gifts (lines) in the pursuit of size. A lot of physiques have lost their sweeping lines… and the “GH gut” (I never get tired of hearing that one…) caused by massive overeating, and over-carb loading before stepping onstage.

also a lot of bodybuilders are turning to drugs like dipyrone to cause immediate site enhancement before stepping onstage… this is likely the cause for the loss of conditioning/graininess that we see in some bodybuilders (Think Big Ramy). of course, the ignorant continue to blame insulin for this phenomenon…

but I digress… you still have plenty of guys who look fantastic, Compton, Clark, heck even Vaillant if he can finally get his shit together. Great physiques, sweeping lines… proportion, symmetry, etc.

perhaps the availability of drugs has allowed for large amounts of guys with shitty lines/insertions/etc to become pros even though they were lacking genetic gifts… that would be my assertion

A reasonable post. Not bad when you’re not snobby.
