To each their own I guess. I don’t know if I would be doing it if I didn’t love every minute of it. To the casual observer, however, I probably don’t look like I’m having fun. Squatting, my face goes so red it looks like blood is going to spray out my ears and I look angry as hell from the effort. Someone watching might no realise just how much fun that is for me.
That’s just working hard, but some people look like they’re bored out of their minds and wish they were anywhere else but the gym.

Working out when your a complete noob IS miserable. It really sucks when you start out and you’re very weak and it seems like EVERYONE at the gym is significantly larger and stronger than you.

I guess that’s why so many people fail to stick with it, especially if they feel like they’re supposed to get huge results in short amounts of time, and they don’t understand that changes in physique takes years.

Once you get good at the lifts and start moving heavy weight, then training becomes really fun. I love training now , but I didn’t enjoy it when I first started.

Good point B.A. I didn’t really enjoy it until I finished my first year training…

I’ve got a guy at my gym that is incredibly fun to watch.

He’s around 55-60.

Every workout, he does one exercise, than 15 rotations of the pedals on an exercise bike.

Then, he finishes his workouts with 5 sets of swiss ball crunches. Not just any swiss ball crunches, but long, slow, and loud-grunting (sounds like a PL-er) on every rep.

He finishes by doing 1/4 walking spidermans around the gym.

You know usually I hate this time of the year in the gym because of the massive influx of dudes that show up. But for some reason this year, there have been dozens of fine females showing up instead and few guys. It is definitely a welcome change, and one that I hope sticks

Finally my college gym is living up to my hopes and dreams!

That’s what happens at a college gym… More cute chicks to gawk at than your other “public” gyms.

Honestly it’s never like that. Normally there might be 2 or 3 cute girls running on the treadmills, but other than that it’s just a cock fest. The hot chicks are all about the pilates classes and whatnot on the other end of the complex, they never venture into the actual gym.

The architect and contractors who created the building plan were obviously homosexual.

Ahh yes, the new crowd is so much fun i love to look around in between my sets and see full body bicep curls, jump shrugs, half bench presses, and 1/2 squats…wait just kidding they dont even do squats

Aren’t jump shrugs a movement used to teach the Oly lifts?
I guess I’m just lucky in that I’ve always had fun training, cause my friends and I would always compete.

I actually had a guy approach me and ask “Dude, whats with all the Deadlifting?”

WTF!

Did you ask him if he wanted to work in with you? He probably would’ve never talked to you after that ever again … I’ve been asked that question a few times and I always respond with asking them if they want to work in … I usually get the “are you insane?” look or they actually do a couple sets with me AND THEN never talk to me again … it’s like Off! for pussies

Yeah I agree with this - starting out sucked and I’ll admit that when I started I was really insecure about how I looked and about etiquette in the gym, even though I was careful to follow all the rules. Getting over those initial feelings is a huge step for those people who are uncomfortable in the gym setting.

Now I have a great time with it.

i wonder if anyone from T-Nation goes to my gym besides me and these 2 asian kids i met.

I’ve never seen this before… barbell collars on the smith machine.

I thought of one from a few weeks ago. This guy is not a Noob, just a dumbass.

He comes over to the cardio equipment and sits down on a bike and plugs in to the speaker to watch the tv on it. He has a 25lb. plate in his hand. He proceeds to do side bends (best way I can describe it), I assume to work his sweet abs, as well as lift it over his head for some kind of press. He never once used the pedals on the bike, so I assume he just wanted to be able to watch tv while he was working out.

Oh, and he also wears like those 80s fishnet type tank tops…amazing.

Pics of the sweet tank … does he have a sweet tan too? (nttawt)

Well he’s African American, so no, but I bet he would if he was white.

Just come back from my Gym after a total downer of a work out. Leg day - my favorite (seeing the most strength gains on squats at the moment so every leg day is awesome for me right now).

My gym has only 1 squat rack so I am used to queuing up behind people or working in. Today two doofs were chilling the fuck out on the rack (they were benching so I couldn’t work in with em, and they had told me they “wouldn’t be long” when I asked after a few mins).

So, upshot is I ended up standing there like a prick for nearly 20 mins (next time I will just go do dumbell squats or something) ran out of time and had a crap work out.

I know this is get a life but as I have had a shit day today, should I get in there tomorrow morning and blast my legs again or do I leave it for a couple of days?

I had fun Sunday. Went to the gym at about 2 and the place was full of newbs. Fortunately it was chest day and I’m doing a modified Sheiko using all barbell presses.

There were 3 other guys doing barbell presses with 35-50 lbs. I had fun watching the faces when I started at 75 and worked up to the 100lb barbells.

This is a new gym for me, and despite the great equipment etc I am starting to suspect I’m the only T-Nation type there. Everyone else seems to be new years crowd, or long term after work fat loss time-wasters.

ha … funny you say that … I have this one guy at my gym who wears similar tanks who tans AND bleaches his hair … he also sounds like gargles with glass and washes his food down with gasoline … but other than that he’s a pretty cool dude
