The Never-Too-Late Tattoo Parlor

I need the diet talk too.

225 on the DL’s? wow

Lula: No, I hadn’t read that article–thanks for sharing it with me. Fear is an important subject to write and think about–for me anyway. I appreciate your encouragment with the cast handstand. I’m going to be thinking about what you wrote here–on wed–when it is round 2 of me v. cast handstand. The goal is to dump one–whatever it takes–bent arms, legs, banana back–I need to end up on the otherside of the bar. I will report back!

Kimba: I’ve thought about paying for some private lessons. Maybe. But, it feels a little silly.

Hi Patch. Thanks for stopping by!

Hallowed: Here’s what you missed. Once upon a time there was a very bad girl, with a very filthy mouth, and an appetite for very dirty food. Eating clean only made her dity mouth dirtier. She called herself names like “fucker” or “stupid fuck” when she failed at her “fucking diet” and “fucking fucked” herself by eating a “fucking cookie.” WHen she did that she said, “Fuck! This cookie is fucking awesome! Fuck the diet.” And she lived happily ever after. The end.

Training

Some running on Sat on Sun morning. But no speed work. I fucking needed to do that this weekend! And DLs today. Nothing special.

It has become clear to me that just as there are cat people and dog people. There are squat people and there are DL people. PUllup guy is a squat person. I am a deadlift person. It’s okay because I want to be both a squat person and a DL person.

FUCKYEAH.

I like that fucking girl and want into her fucking girlgang right fucking MEOW!

I am a DL person… not sure why I have a long torso… but I am stronger at the pull than I am at the push. I wish I was a glorious ATG Heavy weight squatter… but it will always be a struggle for me I’m afraid.

Same, Hallowed. I have a long old back. Sitting down I was always taller than my best friend growing up, when I was 5’7 and she was 5’10. She was all legs, I was all spine. I am awful at squatting.

All legs… that bitch!

I do think the long waist is aesthetically pleasing… gives a nice hourglass between the bottom of the ribs and the hip… but um, long legs is kinda where the sexy is at… and I guess the squat!

FWIW you look quite proportiona to Me Cal!

Yeah, a lot of long legged girls have that short-waisted, boxy thing going on. I guess I’m happy that my waist goes in, even when I’m heavier (if I put an inch on my waist, I’ll have put an inch on my hips too).
I rocked a 24 inch waist in my teens but that was a long time ago. It’s more like 28 now.

I’m a deadlift person too. Maybe that’s why I like you.

There is nothing “silly” about buying a few hours of a good coach’s time. I hired a figure skating coach for years to teach me on the same ice where the rest of the skaters were 13 years old., MAX. Didn’t give a shit about that or the money because it was an itch I needed to scratch.

If not now, when?

Happy New Year to the girl who wants it all

awesome goals. go get them.

Busy: Sorry I missed your post. DL is my favorite and best lift. Sometimes it shows!

Hallowed: I’m with you on the squats. But, I’m open to the possibility that in time we can both bring glory to that lift.

Cal: Yep, that’s me. Long legs no torso. No diet is going to fix that. Oh well.

Kimba: So, were you a skater as a kid or was this an interest you developed as an adult? I think I might be more inclined to pay for gymnastics coaching if there was a coach I was sure that I would like working with and that I was sure would really help/ spot me. You’re right though–I need to give this some more thought.

Frenchie: Happy new year! Happy to see you. Thanks for the encouragement.

Mon–Rest day. No stretching either. I’ve been having some back pain in the am–it resolves on its own as I move around. I figured it could be the stretching. And it appears I was right. No am back pain this morning. I guess I’m over doing it.

Today–5-3-1 MP and pullups. Super fucktardly busy at work and at home right now. Insistent on doing it all, means starting early and no fucking around today.

PUllups 6 sets of 10. last 2 sets were a bit hard.

MP 5x55; 3x60; 3x75. Happy with the 3x75.

MP 10x20lb dbsx2. These are still surprisingly taxing. Of course I did them last, and I didn’t rest much (at all) btw sets.

Other shit like Y,T, L stuff and pull aparts and face pulls.

Looking forward to catching up with everyone later.

Nadia, I skated some as a kid and then picked it back up when I was about 33 years old. I figure skated until right before I turned 40 when I gave it up. In part, I stopped due to the tricks getting so dangerous that there was a real possibility of injury that I couldn’t justify being self-employed. However, mostly I stopped because I was done with it. The itch had been scratched and I moved on to other things. I don’t miss it.

Stretching is something that I’ve often wondered whether it helps or hurts. Right now, I’m stretching my calves after running and after a nice hot shower when I’m all warm. This seems to have addressed some tight calf issues after running. I spent all of last year stretching out my hips and that seemed to help my ITB issues. Targeted stretching…I guess I’m for it.

You should be happy with 3 x 75. That is strong work!

YOU CAN DO IT

(insert eastern european accent)

OMG, 6 sets of 10 pullups. You’re a freaking animal!

I’m trying to figure out the logic behind your rep scheme on your lifts. Lol! What does it all mean?!

Either way, strong lifts all around, that’s for sure. 4x225 on the DL is my dream. 3x155 on the squat is fantastic! and a 75 MP is excellent. Seriously, great work!

And yeah, I’d consider myself more of a puller than pusher too, but really, I’m just mediocre on all my lifts. HAH! I should be the poster child for “scattered” training.

Anyways, great work woman!

LOL!

yes. yes you CAN!!!

Kimba: I’m not sure about the stretching either. But, I’m stretching for sport specific purposes. YOu can’t be too flexible for gymnastics or dance. Also, I think I found the culprit to my back discomfort–some pilates stretch that I recently picked up from youtube.

Note to self: Do not implement random shit into your training simply because someone with a youtube account says it will help your arabesque.

Coach Lula Karolyi: I sort of dumped one–my first one. But not really. I wanted to fall heels over my head, but I did not–it was more like a squat through–I’m talented. After that, I hit a couple that weren’t too bad and then a lot of really bad ones, then I got tired and just goofed around. I made some progress I think.
- YouTube

Masch: Yes, I can pull–it’s kind of useless athletic talent though–as I have come to think. And, you busted out damn near 2 sets of 10 when you were on your pull up bender. I’m certain that with time and consistency you could achieve any number of pullups that you want. I don’t think you’re mediocore on your lifts at all?! You are a well rounded athlete. And you’re still just coming back from surgery anyway. THis is going to be a strong year for you–I’m sure of it.

Mim: Well, I almost can. Still working on it…

+++++++++++++++

So training. I did make it to dance on Tuesday. But I took a modern dance class instead of ballet. Very fun.

Yesterday was gymnastics. See video. I mostly did bars. I’d like to tumble more. Maybe I’ll stick to bars and floor. FOcus my efforts a little more. Fuck beam? Beam requires so much time…

Squats today.

persistence paid off on that jump/swing. good luck on squats. hopefully they treat you better then me this week. lol

I’m a pusher not a puller - short arms, long body.
I definitely see progress in that vid. Keep at it. Well, you will. You’re like a pit bull with a bone when it comes to goals. I don’t doubt you’ll get there.

OMG, those handstands are gorgeous! You’re hitting handstand on at least the early ones, there’s no doubt about it. Maybe you should try to just switch one hand then half piourette it over? I definitely count your dump as a dump. Probably scarier the way you did it, actually! Great catch on the straddle-cut. I give you even more props for all this since this type of bar work is all new for you, right?

squats are your little bitch, mkay?

Koub: You’re right persistence pays. Lucky for me I am kind of compulsive about skill training. It helps me. I’ll check out your log to see what happened with your squats. A bad day is ok. No injuries though. I’m hoping.

Cal: Yes, I see the progress too. And I’m happy. Having hit a few pretty good ones, I know I’ll get more consistent and agressive as I get more reps in.

Lula: Gorgeous? You’re too sweet. They’re getting better for sure. Thanks for your help and encouragment. There are a few HS cheerleaders who come to adult gym to work on their BHS, and a few guys, but no ex-gymnasts. I’m alone on the apparatus. It makes it harder I think. I like having you as my virtual gymnastics coach/training partner.

Training

Squats: Yesterday. I’m really happy with these. I’m feeling strong and getting much more confident. I think I like squatting.

5x125; 3x140; 1x155; 1x165

Bench: Today. I told pullup guy I missed my last bench day 100x3 and failed miserably on my kroc rows only getting 6, and I got no response back. I thought he’d change my 5-3-1 numbers. (I think I secretly hoped for that). Nope. Silence. Hello? Did you hear me I missed 100x3 how can I do 105x3? Apparently, he is tone deaf to head case crazy. God, he’s good for me.

Bench: 5x85; 3x95; 3x105! Got em.

Kroc rows: So, I’m supposed to be rowing 50lbs. I complained to my husband about the awarkdness of the adjustable dumbbells that I had been using, so he fixed me up last week with a better set up. Today, I look at them more closely–there is 25lbs on each side–he didn’t take into account the weight of the dumbbell or the clips!!! He’s such a man. Because I am a girl I weighed my Kroc dumbbell–56lbs! Sheesh. Still, the set up he fashioned for me is so much better than what I had been using, so I said fuck it.

Kroc rows are my new dl. The only thing I get to pull for reps. And I am determined to find my rhythm with them. And I did much better today.

50x14 (really 56x14). Some of the last reps are a little weak, but I think that’s what kroc demands–keep going.

http://www.youtube.com/my_videos_edit

Running: Haven’t been doing much of that lately. Got out for about 4 today. I need a plan. I’m hopeless without a plan.

great job on the squats and KOCS!

EHHHHHEEEWW!!! I say this because I hate them BUT you killed it! GGRREAT!! :D!

UGH! I wrote an entire spiel and then accidentally closed the window…

Probably for the best, I’m a long winded mofo eye roll

Anyways, cliffnotes:

  1. Your squats are lovely. I saw them on youtube a little while, cuz i’m sneaky. The confidence shows!! I’m jealous.

  2. Hilarious on the 100 - 105 bench situ. I love that you hit 105 after failing 100. Just goes to show. And that bench WILL be your bitch!

Also, on the coach thing. Coaches are funny like that. I find good coaches walk a fine line between letting you do what YOU do, and then having you do what they think is best for you. All my best and favorite coaches were a bit stand-offish when it came to my constant over-analysis of failed attempts and/or bouts of defeatism and/or general hysteria - normally they would just give me a blank look while I drone, give me a slap on the shoulder and walk away. LoL!! And for that I’ve been ever so grateful, since as you showed, when left to one’s own devices, one can indeed supersede.

(LOL @ my cliffnotes btw)

Anywho, love the bars vid! When you hurdle yourself over…freaking badass!! I’m currently trying out muscle-ups…I don’t know how you do it, girl.
