So true, so true. Which is a hard pill for me to swallow since I want everything. Sigh…

Its funny, just tonight after I told my pilates instructor all the things I wanted to do training-wise in 2012, he responded, complete with an exaggerated flourish of the hand and loaded with sarcasm, “That’s great! You can be pretty good at all those things, and then you’ll be SPECTACULAR!” Lol!

You got that 6:59, Nadia!! You can do it!

Kimba: My short sprints are done on the grassy infield of a track–it’s easier on the old legs. 400s are on the track.

Masch: I’m with you on the wanting everything. I think it’s unlikely that I’m going to narrow my focus and prioritize my goals next year, but I’m still thinking on it.

Yesterday PM: 5 mile run. Felt good. Warm, wet, gentle rain.

Today Squats

For Christmas I got squat shoes! I’ve used them one time before–because I know where Santa hides the presents, and I’m naughty like that. We also got a safety squat bar. I haven’t used that yet.

5x105
5x125
5x140–pullup guy is taking me out of my comfort zone and making me put some weight on the bar. First time repping at 140.

BBB 10x90x4

DB romanian DLS 40x8x2. NOt hard. But my Adjustable DBs made these awkward as hell. Felt stupid. I hate my adjustable DBs.

Jealous about the SSB… Could really use it when my elbows start really acting up, if they do again. BTW, that Christmas tree is perfect. Nice and big. I like what he is having you do with adding more weight to the bar for squats.

Ooooh, new squat shoes! Did you get oly shoes to squat in? I’ve still been tossing that idea around in my head.

Great job repping out to 140, is your back still handling that ok?

I am quite excited for your quest to the 6 minute mile. I’m totally the product of Disney’s inspirational sports movies. I want to see you nail the mile and then start chanting “Ducks! Ducks! Ducks!” (or something that would equate)

Repping 140 for squats is very impressive. Nice work!

Still thinking on those 2012 goals right along with you…

Um yeah, that’s some damned good squatting. I’m envious!

Koub: My husband used the SSB–said it was quite the trip. Pullup guy said (with a maniacal laugh) that I’ll be using the SSB next cycle. With the coaching that I’m getting and all my new toys (shoes and bars) 2012 could be the year of the squat for me.

Lula: Shoes are the pendlay women’s classic. I like them–feels like a more stable base to squat in than my slippers. Back and hips are feeling fine so far. Even adding in some sprinting, my sciatica is near 100% gone. Sub 6 min mile is going to take some effort and some time, but I’m excited about this running goal and happy I can finally sprint without hip pain.

Kimba: I’m pretty sure I have all of my goals except I don’t know what I’m doing with the gymnastics. I don’t seem to be making any progress there. I’m too inconsistent and too random in my training. Once a week may just not be enough time to accomplish anything there…

Thanks Cal!

Training

Thursday am 5 mile run, press handstand work and other gymnastic type stuff in the pm.

Friday

Bench: 70x5; 85x5; 95x5–trying really hard to work on staying tight.

Pullups: 5 sets of 2

Kroc Rows: 50lb x I still fucking suck at these.

Other stuff like band pushdowns and hammer curls.

Bouldering with the family. Such a great activity for us to do together.

[[photo]35542[/photo]

congrats on the shoes! and the pull-ups, too. will be interested to follow along on your pull-up progress. i’m not sure about my goals, either. helps me feel a little better that i’m not the only one.

I love “seeing you,” post more!

Glad all is well…Happy new YEAR!

The pullup queen is back! Happy New Year, Nadia!

Alexus: Yes, attempt number 3, in my nearly 3 year quest for 25 pullups, is coming up in about 7 weeks. Perhaps the third time will be the charm for me?

Puff: Happy new year to you too! I hope you start a log back up in 2012. I want to read about your ballet training.

Hi Mim!

Training

So, it was about 6 weeks ago that I last timed my mile, and at that time (sore from squats) I ran it in 7:15. I thought for sure that with a little bit of speed work (because I hadn’t been doing any), I could hit 6:59 before the end of the year. Ha!

Mile time: 7:10. What can I say? I have a great talent for under estimating my goals or over estimating my abilities. Oh well. I’ve left myself lots of room for improvement in 2012.

So, with that here are my goals:

25 pullups

300 deadlift

sub 6 min mile.

A press handstand from a straddle sit

Improved flexibility–A very pretty arabesque-- a goal measured in pictures not numbers. Here’s my best right now.

[photo]35549[/photo]

That’s it.

I know my squat is going to get a lot better in 2012, but I don’t know how much, and I’m too afraid to pick a number–right now my 1 rep pr is 175–and any number higher than that sounds kinda scary to me. I’m hoping my pullup guy will stick around and then I’ll just squat whatever he tells me to.

Bench I don’t care about. My 1 rep is 120. If it gets better great. If not. Bleghh.

gymnastics–I’m lost.

There will be dancing and bouldering and whatever other new and challenging activities I can find to do. Lula’s word of the year is relentless, mine is possibility. Bring it 2012! I’m ready.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Happy New Year!

Go get those goals!

That arabesque (sp?) Qualifies as very pretty already girl! I think you need to revise that goal! Maybe tear inducingly beautiful arabesque… but damn you still already close to that!

Glad you’re posting more and PLEASE hang out for all of 2012 ok? You’re one of the ladies that shows me having it all really IS possble. I love it.

Happy New Year

Very nice goals, and it looks as though ballet suits you! Very elegant. Vid of the straddle sit/press video, when you do it!

hey, that’s a 5 second PR. I have all faith you will demolish all your goals with your work ethic.

I highly approve of 2012 being the year of possibility for you. Go get 'em Nadia! Personally, I’m hoping you log the whole year – I so enjoy reading about your exploits.

I love the bouldering pic!! Your legs looks so strong and powerful. Simply gorgeous!

And you’ll get those goals for sure! I can’t wait. 2012 is going to be wonderful!

Lol @ “I have a great talent for under estimating my goals or over estimating my abilities.” Too funny! I’m similar except I overestimate my goals and my abilities! Luckily I have a good sense of humor. lol!

Happy 2012, hooker! I know you’ll fight tooth and nail for every goal. You got this!! And thanks for everything, really. You are an inspiration to me in so many ways. Keep killing it, mama!!

Thanks busy!

Hallowed: Wow, that’s very kind of you to say and your words mean a lot to me. Re my arabesque–i’m totally cheating stepping in to it and using momentum as my BFF–i lack strength and control. Plus the blur gives me some benefit too-softening the bend in my knee, making it look like I’m closer to 90 degrees than I really am.

This is a tear inducingly beautiful arabesque. my arabesque - YouTube

Cal: The press has been a goal of mine for almost as long as the pullups. But, I haven’t trained it consistently. This is going to be my year.

Koub: You’re right. 5 seconds is 5 seconds. Progress is progress. I’ll get there eventually!

Thanks Kimba! Looking forward to following your journey as well.

Masch: Thanks for the love. You’re an inspiration to me too–someone who trains because they simply must–as an end unto itself. And your comeback from your knee injury–your drive to play soccer again. I marvel at your courage. I am held back so much by fear when I try to do gymnastics right now. I’m hoping that I can get over it–and watching you sure helps.

Setting the tone for the new year

Early am run. 3 miles. Outside at the moment of daylight–when the sky brightens, dark shadowy forms turn into trees, and streetlights silently flick off.

A tease of Deadlifts after breakfast. Pullup guy has me trading volume for frequency and intensity. I’m not going to lie. I miss my dl volume. But, I’m pain free. And I gotta bring up my squat. So, I don’t get to shoot my load and pull until my legs quiver.

5x175; 5x 195; 4x225. I felt strong.
GHR 6x3. Trying to do them correctly.

That’s it!

Nads-I’m excited to watch you smash those goals. The arabesque is beautiful already-and those legs. How many times can I say it, they’re just amazing!

Regarding the gymnastics goals—I’ve come to terms with the fact that I can use gymnastics as an outlet. As soon as I tried to think about making things better, or getting skills back, I felt that dread of going again. To pretend that I’m that little girl who pretended she was Dominique Dawes swinging around the bars…that’s good enough for me. So, maybe that could work?

Happy new year!
