The Never-Too-Late Tattoo Parlor

I thought your back arch in the rack pull video was beautiful.

i spent about two years chasing what I thought was an SI joint issue. went to lots of chiropractors and sports med docs. turns out it was my QL and an ART practitioner had me fixed in two treatments. since then, i have found that SI joint issues tends to be a catch all phrase for generic pain in that area and it can be a plethora of things.

not really an expert, but i thought i would share my experience since you seem to be having similar issues. when i have this pain it tends to be overactive QL, hip flexor, and IT band. Occasionally its an overactive glute. deactivating these gives me almost instant relief.

Feels good to know I’m not alone with my hatred for rack pulls. Thanks Masch and Kmcnyc.

Masch: I always love your posts. Thanks for stopping by. Back es no beuno. That will be me only sumo dl cue.

Kmcnyc: I’ll check out that mobility thread. I have to admit I’m stuck in my old school gymnatics way of stretching…I’m sure I could benefit from so new knowledge. The baseball and the bat were not broken after that. I fetch patiently. My son is just starting to develop some confidence in his athletic ability–last year he wouldn’t play wall ball because kids laughed at him–now this year he wrote me a note that said “thanks for signing me up for all those sports.”

Thanks Frenchie: The BW bench feels close. But, those last 5lbs could take a while.

Thanks lula and kimba!

Training:
Morning Run, new course. Probably closer to 6 miles than 5. And hilly.

PM Gymnastics. Big day for me. I vaulted for the first time in 27 years, and made it over the table. And I did some backhandsprings on a low beam. My body position is still not exactly right on the handsprings, but this was also big for me. There was just a really good training atmosphere in the gym today. And I had a lot of fun.

Koffea: Thanks for the information. How do you deactive your QL, hip flexor, and glute? THrough ART?

oh crap, now I forget…have you always been a sumo puller???

yay for fun and good gymnastics!!

Mim: No way. I’m new to sumo. I heart conventional dls. Just trying out the sumo to see if it will help my sciatica and my weak ass ass.

No training today, but rehab stuff.

On the diet front, I have news. I’m on one. It’s for the purpose of achieving my 25 rep pull up goal. I’m going for it again Nov 1. I’m most certainly stronger right now than I was this time last year. And I got 23 last year. The only variable working against me is that I’m heavier too. I cut last year. So, I’m cutting again this year.

Day 1 of my diet, yesterday, was a success–except that I finished eating all of my allotted food by 3:38 pm. I noted the time and vowed I would do better. And, yesterday was also the first day in roughly forever that I consumed ZERO diet soda. It was an all green tea and water day for me.

Today. No training. But, I had a Diet pr–Had food to eat until 5 pm. AND I cut my caffeine intake to what I could milk from a single green tea bag–reused over and over again. I don’t know why. I’m practicing being old? BUt, I’m not swearing off the caffeine for the pendency of the diet. Just taking things one day at a time.

FYI: If you can’t tell by this post. THis log is going to get BORING!

I love how T-Nation hates me, and won’t let me see your vidoes… I can only imagine what you mean you are still alive. lol. I don’t think you are true master of the weight room until you do something stupid, and then do it again.

Nadia, I find you tremendously amusing at times. Only you can dig PRs outta diets. I chuckled.

It’s true, though, about the weight cut making a big difference with pullups/chins.

your diet sounds sad,lol.

Actually, and you’ll probably think I’m crazy for sayin this, but have you looked into or ever considered the ‘leangains,’ approach to ‘dieting?’

It might be a way to help you feel not so deprived. What is your diet like now?

Congrats on getting back on the vault and the back handsprings on beam! I look forward to video of those…

I loathe the vault! Did you use the new table? That thing freaks the hell out of me.

What does this new diet look like? No diet soda is a goal I’m currently working (and failing) at. Keep at it mama.

From no-diet to super-diet. That’s my Nadia! I’m cheering you on, as I train my meager quantity of pullups…

I cut diet soda out of my life a couple of years ago and don’t miss it at all. Mind you, I drink a shit load of tea.

i think you should stop dieting, and just get a breast reduction. I will be sad, but happy you have a pullup PR?! and that you are not starving.

Koub: Than I am a master of the weight room or at least being stupid in the weight room.

Snap: Glad you’re amused. I don’t like dieting, but I’m trying to keep my sense of humor about me. Yes, I think (a proper) cut should really help me. Last year, I was stuck at 17 or 18 I can’t remember; lost 5lbs and hit 23.

Mim: I’m supposed to be carb cycling, but I’m not implementing it perfectly. 5 or 6 little meals through out the day is a pain in my ass. I do delay my first meal a bit, but I’d rather go to bed hungry than be hungry during the day.

Lula: Yes, I vaulted over the table! It wasn’t bad, and I can see that it is an improvement over the old horse. I hated vault as a kid too–it was one of the reasons I quit. My coach used to scream at me during my approach to “RUUUUUUN!!!” And then afterward he would mock me and tell me that I ran like a cartoon character milking a cow. Oh, the memories. Re the diet soda–I can’t believe that I’m now on my 4th day without any! I don’t have a plan to give it up forever–it’s a one day at a time call/goal.

Thanks for the support kimba. Moderation–not my middle name.

Bre: Great idea! I’ve always wanted a breast reduction. Of course, I’m one of those “lucky” women who does NOT lose the weight in her chest first. Nope, not me. I’m all breast tissue.

Cal: I can’t think long term with the diet soda…I can’t imagine not wanting it/loving it.

Training

Yesterday: I was supposed to squat, but didn’t. Did my rehab stuff and my frequency pullups.

Today: Ran 6. Was supposed to do 8, but didn’t.

Diet: On track. But it was my husband’s b-day yesterday. So there was dinner and cake.

Changing to Sumo made a difference in my sciatica, hopefully you will get that too

I don’t think I’ve ever met a cake I could say no to.

congrats on the no-soda Nadia!

and a challenge is never boring. Just don’t expect the same strengths gains, right? (now go ahead and prove me wrong. lol)

Ronda: That’s encouraging news. Thanks for letting me know.

Mim: I didn’t say no. It’s birthday cake. You gotta live your life with your family first and foremost. I did say no to it yesterday though.

Frenchie: I’m really pleased with myself about the diet soda. And I’d like to prove you wrong, but my training is taking a hiatus. The sciatica is taking a toll on me. Focusing on the pullups and giving my body a chance to heal–that’s the plan these next few weeks. I hope to be back on the train hard, eat big band wagon soon…

Running sucks. My back hurts when I run. And only when I run. Yesterday and again today. WTF? I guess it could be the rehab stuff?

My legs are dead. Could be the diet. I tried to carb up yesterday, but I am a very inexperienced dieter. Maybe it wasn’t enough. What I need to figure out (and quickly) is how many carbs it takes to fill up my glycogen stores?

Could be the taper too. I expect the runs to be easy because I’ve cut my mileage in half this week…but it doesn’t always work that way.
