You will never be any good at being a brotard if you don’t learn to love your bench (and curls) above all others. [/quote]
it’s official,I’m a brotard. Bench was my first lift of choice to work on this cycle. Let me switch this up. I’m a Sistard.
and wtg on the bench - just reading about your workout makes me tired. How long does it take you to go through all this? Perhaps - and Cbear can gladly gag me if I’m bogus - perhaps you would see more results in your money lifts if you shortened your over all workout to a couple key lifts? Less tired, less recuperation? Just wondering.
cheers
N
she lifts only 3 days/week. how much shorter do you want her workouts to get?
Mascherano and Sindie, thanks so much for the encouragement.
N is a sistard! Who knew?!?! ![]()
Today’s workout took a bit over an hour, which is typical. My Friday and Sunday 5/3/1 workouts take me longer – sometimes a bit over an hour and a half. Yet, I generally do less stuff. I think all the videoing slows me down. Once I’m in the gym, though, I’m more than happy to be there and am never in a rush to leave.
CBear is on the money – I have time constraints that make three times per week workouts pretty much the max. I take a recovery day between trainings, and then Monday and Tuesday are no-lift days. This gives me ample recovery time, and the ability to ski and bicycle on off days. All good!
I love bench over everything else so guess I must be a sistard. I certainly was in my 20s, which is why my shoulders suck now.
Nice lifting, btw!

True - forgot about that. You have a good couple of days to recover between lifts.
Today is the sort of day where one steps in cat shit thoughtfully deposited by an elderly kitty outside the litter box, and not awake enough to realize this, track it all over the house.
For my sanity, I do hope this day improves.

OMG!! I’m sorry, but that is too funny. At least you didn’t slip in cold kitty puke.
Yes, let’s hope your day does improve. But if it helps, you made me smile.

Couple weeks ago I took the glass plate out of the microwave to clean it, and realized it was still too hot half a second before i dropped it on the wood floor, where it shattered.
I thoughtfully kept the cat and dog out of the kitchen while i picked up the big shards, and got the vacuum for the rest. Dog tried to scoot around the vacuum, to get out of my way, and ended up going all the way into the kitchen, at which point I screamed at him to get out.
Apparently I scared him, bc when I backed up out of the kitchen to wrap up the cord I stepped in poo. In my bare feet. between poo and shards of glass, i’ll pick poo.
your day will get better, i promise.
LOL CBear, that one definitely appealed to my Schadenfreude.

Cute puppy pix make any thread better! Perhaps a cute picture of my particular perpetrator will do the same.
I actually might have preferred bare feet and glass shards, because the slippers had to go into the trash. Needed new slippers anyways…
For the record, the day did improve. A nice facial has that effect.

and here the first thing i think of is 4 ways to reference bukkake.

I see what you did there. ![]()
The microdermabrasion/UV light treatment had to suffice today. BTW, I highly recommend this for the over-forty crowd. Which, I’m happy to say, is actually a contingent in this forum!
I’m over 40 but I think I’ll pass on the facial.
Besides I’d need more of a sandblaster.
On an ironic note, I have a cat that looks a good bit like yours.
Trust me, Joe. You’d like the sandblasting facial.
And, do you have the cat, or are you the cat’s staff?
Oh. my. god. are deloads boring. No wonder I’ve never actually done one until this week. It actually worked out because I was on the road for 4 hours today for work and all that driving made me very tired for this training.
5/3/1 Wave 1, Week 4 Deload
Sumo Deadlift
From risers:
65# 4 x 5 warmup
65# 1 x 5 working
80# 1 x 5 working
95# 1 x 5 working
I kept this interesting by working on a nice back arch and working on my hip action. Even on an easy weight like 65#, unless I consciously think “butt out” I will do my weird butt-tuck thing. Thus, it really pays for me to take the extra time to video all my sets, even the easy ones, so that I can catch these mistakes and fix them on the next set.
Barbell Hip Thrusts (shoulders on bench)
135# 3 x 10
This is an easy weight for me, so I concentrated on getting a full ROM and really squeezing my glutes at the top of the lift.
Military Press
25# (2 12.5s) 2 x 5 warmup plus working set
30# (2 15s) 1 x 5
35# (2 17.5s) 1 x 5
Snoozer-ville.
Dips
15# dumbbell held between thighs/feet 2 x 8, 1 x 5 <–PR + 2.5#
I will repeat this weight next time to get that last inch on the bottom ROM and to increase reps.
I could barely hold this dumbbell…started bwtn my thighs and slipped down to my ankles during the set. But I just couldn’t leave the gym without trying for a PR. It just doesn’t feel right, deload or not!
Sunday AM is another deload day for bench and squat. I’ll try to keep it interesting somehow.
Good job ,Kimba.
Don’t know how you manage those damn dips…with weight.
That’s my next thing to conquer.
X2 on the facials even though I’m not quite there yet. I’m into chemical peels. I can’t get enough of the the baby-soft skin feeling, post peel.
I hear you on the deloads. I’m about to go to the gym to press an empty bar. Sigh.

Thanks Skye! Sometimes my ability to dip surprises even me. I just think its SO INTERESTING how every one of us has something in the gym they are super good at, and other things that are inexplicably hard.
I have never tried a chemical peel. Luckily I have good skin and a really knowledgeable aesthetician who is really good at the microderm/sandblasting.

Comfort yourself with the thought that by deloading we are training smarter, not harder. I’m trying like hell to keep this in mind.
