Squats: 105 for 12 reps!? b*%&. heads back to the gym to try again

Lots of progress being made here, Counselor. Good work.
I hate working abs, but ab work needs to get done or you pay for it.
Jack, thanks for the kind words.
Ab work is evil, but a necessary evil indeed. I happen to have won the six-pack genetic lottery, but in a way that is a disincentive. Its easy for me to rationalize – if the abs look good, then why bother? Alas, looks and function are not one and the same.

As long as you are getting the minimum lifts I wouldn’t sweat it Kimba. Of course that could also explain why I’m weak as a kitten.
I am calling shenanigans on you, Joe. Anyone that is gonna pull over 400 any day now is NOT weak as a kitten.

/insert evil cackling here/
but secretly worried about the bench…
Today’s training was utterly accidental.
We awoke this fine holiday AM to no water in the house. I watched the public works crew tear up our street pretty much all day before deciding to head to the gym for a nice, hot shower.
Since I was there anyway, I hopped onto an elliptical for 30 minutes of intervals.
That is some boring-ass shit. Anyone actually doing that for cardio is a far, far better woman than I.
And 3 close neutral grip pullups before, and four afterwards. Just to separate myself from the cardio bunnies.
Came home to find water! Yay!
Agreed on the elliptical. No wonder people who do that hate the gym.
(I used to be an elliptical bunny; never did much for my physique, but I did get a lot of reading in. There was no other way to put up with the tedium. Madame Bovary, the Aeneid, back issues of The New Criterion … )
mother fucker reads the Aeneid on the elliptical.
raises hand for the midwestern backhanded slap
DONT MAKE ME GET THE HOSE!!
very nice progress, nice work.
I liked the pull video good work.
I cant get with the elliptcal- its still not any good- even cranked up all the way.
Alisa V did you say New Criterion… hmmmm my goodness.
Well, in my defense, I learned I didn’t like it. They started defending Enoch Powell and I started swearing.
yay for water!!
boo for the eliptical…why the eliptical, btw?
Those things hurt my knees…Im liking intervals on the bike tho!
I don’t like any kind of indoor cardio. Which is why I’m fat and lazy in winter.
Bikes = pain in the crotch. I don’t know how anyone can sit on one.
kimba, your training is looking awesome! Kudos on the pull-ups (green with envy) and the DL. I’m watching your form for inspiration.
Yeah, indoor cardio is a bore. I also never got into the elliptical. Treadmill and stairmill are my favorite torture devices, but nothing beats working out outdoors, that’s for sure.

Thanks kmc! In fact, I did crank that elliptical pretty much all the way up, yet it took real mental concentration to do max effort intervals on it. Piece of crap equipment.

And for me, I need to rest my knees from cycling…I do so much real cycling in season. I hate the treadmill worse than the elliptical and early in my gym going days, I was an elliptical bunny, so I know how to work it. Machines and I are not friends.

You have to harden up your ass and girly bits to make cycling successful. Every spring it hurts for awhile, then it goes away for the rest of the riding season.

Watch away, but don’t pick up my bad habits! I am still working on getting my first wide grip pullup. And on getting more reps. This is a constant battle!
You can have the treadmill/stairmill. Hate them worse than the elliptical. But agreed: I’d much rather get my cardio done while having fun outside.

you may have picked your bench training max a bit high since next month you’ll already be at your previous 1RM on week 3. but no worries cause resetting or repeating a month is easy to do.
You are probably right, and I may have to re-figure. That’s OK. I’m not nearly as attached to my bench pressing as I am to my squats and deads.
I have now forgotten where I heard/read this, but apparently it is not unusual to have females be able to get quite a few bench pressing reps at one weight, but nothing or 1-2 at only 5 or 10 lbs. higher. That might throw off the 5/3/1 system via its rep max calculator.
great work you’ve been putting in kimba! i know i’ve mixed up some of my calculations, hopefully to not too much detriment.
i second the non-attachment to benching. ![]()
You will never be any good at being a brotard if you don’t learn to love your bench (and curls) above all others.
T, thanks for the kind words!
Joe, I am crushed. My one big goal in life, thwarted. ![]()
Wednesday AM Training
“Off the 5/3/1 Reservation Day”
Back squats to 3 risers plus a step
Bar 1 x 10 warmup
75# 1 x 5 warmup
100# 1 x 5
110# 5 x 5 <–some knee cave on these sets, but otherwise form was good
When the first set at 110# felt heavy, I figured it made no sense to move up in weight. So I went for volume instead.
Bench Press
Bar 1 x 5 warmup
65# 1 x 5 warmup
80# 2 x 3, 1 x 4 ← Rep PR +2
After my trainer called me a “head case” for just missing lockout on the 4th rep the first two times, I magically managed to do it on the third set. Amazing what a little disrespect will do for me. Anyway, I am SUPER HAPPY about my bench today.
Walking Lunges
25s 71 steps, completely around the gym.
Dips
BW 1 x 24
Lat Pull-Downs
70# 1 x 15
Low Cable Row
55# 1 x 15
Front Raises/Side Raises
7.5s 1 x 12 <–surprisingly difficult
Biceps Curls
17.5# 1 x 8 left side, 1 x 10 right side
Complete weak-sauce on my left side. So weak!
Decline sit-ups
5# plate behind head 15/10/8
I have never really documented my food intake before, but I’ve been doing so on Fitday for the last few days. The point of this is to see what eating “maintenance” actually means for me in terms of calories and macro breakdown. Also, whether I can correlate calories in with lifting success.
nice bench pr!
damn 71 step lunges…lord have mercy!
so you do better when you get picked on?
its like when a boy would call me a ‘girl,’ it would make me so mad, he would get kicked in the shins…LOL!! when I was much younger of course! ![]()

Thanks deja! Yep, 71 steps. Its a big-ish gym.

I absolutely do. ![]()
hey brotard sistah…yeah for your bench PR!
i like what you are doing with correlating your eats with lifting success, great idea!
did you do those 71 steps all in one continuous walking pattern? holy crap!! i didn’t realize i did 90 steps yesterday with 25’s as well. but i rested between 30. (one way is 15, then back, rest 3x) i was ready to fall over at the end. you rock!

Maybe great idea, maybe rotten idea. I’m just looking to see if I can improve my lifting via nutrition. Without gaining weight. Me no want to gain weight.
Yeah, baby. NO STOPPING!
Haha! I love how you work best when picked on - I swear I’m the same way, especially on the field.
Glad to hear you’re happy with the benching! Nothing like a great lifting session, no?
I’m interested in your nutrition experiment. I also log on fitday. Initially because I want to try my hand at carb cycling, but I don’t have the proper discipline to carb cycle even in its most remedial form. So now I use it just to keep my diet in check - bad binging tendencies, wah.
