I recently moved out of NYC and still go in for work. I have to say the support for this guy was overwhelming from people I’ve talked to on both sides of the aisle. Republicans and Democrats alike have felt the subway get more dangerous. You wouldn’t think that with the way the internet is, but definitely is the vibe I get from folks here.

Read the news, guy. Urban black thugs love beating up on Asian-Americans, especially female, especially elderly. Fine if you hate Trump, but you are woefully uninformed if you think he is responsible for any significant degree for violence against Asians.
Kind of like the Kyle Rittenhouse situation. Many people who had only paid passing attention to the case thought Rittenhouse shot peaceful black protestors, instead of shooting white thugs who were chasing him and trying to kill or seriously injure him.

I saw that little gathering of the REAL racists/race hustlers after the verdict, angry/bitter black people who ONLY viewed the entire case through the lens of race. The black panther wanna-be guy yelling on the megaphone “You ain’t welcome in NY city Daniel Penny! Pack up your shit cuz you ain’t safe on these streets. No police or security guards gon protect you. We run these streets so watch out!”
I just shook my head watching that and found myself (as I often do) wondering what would be the reaction if a group of white people said the same thing about a black man…out in public and on a megaphone? Besides Al Sharpton immediately getting a racial boner, there would be riots and outrage, etc. And with this racist saying those things, I wondered what would be his reaction if both persons were black? Or both white? I’m sure he wouldn’t even notice, but since it was black v white he immediately knew the only reason for the interaction was because the KKK, white supremacy, the evil white man. If their races were reversed, would white people be allowed to gather and yell into a megaphone such threatening words?
As other posters said, before this incident, no one GAF about Neely, and those same black people yelling for him now would have strolled right past him on the sidewalk. But I imagine that anyone watching them yell their veiled threats to Penny knew who the real racist were, who the real ill-intentioned low IQ thugs were.
As long as black people continue to react to things they don’t agree with by yelling and threatening and showing sheer outward hate, that’s how long white America (and really everyone else in America) will just shake their heads at black people and NOT want to interact with them. And while I’m sure the true racist black people would love to never have to interact with evil whitey, it sadly negatively affects the rest of intelligent and civilized black America.

They had their moment in the sun for the last few decades but America’s getting pretty sick of their dumb crap. Hopefully it will soon be relegated to joke material and not be a driver of public policy.
I wholeheartedly agree and I think the glimpses of this were with Trump’s election, winning back the House and the Senate, and with the not guilty verdict of Penny. People are sick of being immediately called racist whenever something does NOT explicitly& positively benefit black people/or when anything not favorable occurs to a black person. Racists exist and always will, but I [and I believe others] believe that most Americans are not racist and do NOT always fixate on what color someone is. Most just want what everyone else wants: a safe country in which they can exist and raise their family, good jobs, low cost of living, good schools, cheap gas, etc. Those are the real and true issues most people are really concerned with in their day to day lives.
