In your brilliant synopsis of Mr. King’s Principles you stated that we should use the four second rule for tempo and that rep numbers for lifters range from 6-12 for 0-2 years of experience and 3-6 reps for >10 years of experience. Is it correct to infer that the TUT for lifters with 0-2 years of experience is 24-48 seconds and for >10 years of experience is 12-24 seconds?
By the way, I nominate you as the GREAT COMMUNICATOR.
Glad you liked the article. Part II will probably run this week.
That’s a good question. Although Ian has a point here, I still think that variety is rep ranges and TUT is important, but if a person has over ten years of real gym experience, then most of his reps should be in the heavy 3-6 range (according to Ian’s theory.) You don’t necessarily have to combine this theory with the 4 second rule, which is aimed primarily at bodybuilders, not strength athletes or combat athletes. Still, it sounds pretty valid.
I’ll tell you what, if Ian doesn’t pop in and answer your question here, we’ll include it in the next Heavy Metal column.
