The Gym Rules

No it’s not. You need a serious reality check here man.

Rule 1. Do not be an asshole that thinks he owns the gym.

Rule 2. Well that’s about it.

Diesel, who are you? Please PM me. I cant figure it out for the life of me.

As for your little list there, Im pretty sure I know exactly who the skinny guru is.

Now hold on a second, there are plenty of men in the gym that have tits and i view them the same way i view a girl taking up a bench. If you don’t like it, then go join curves

I pay the same gym fees that you do. If you want to control who uses what equipment, get a home gym.

Curves does not have bands or boards. And I’m pretty sure they dont allow chalk.
I don’t pay gym fees, I pay tuition, which I assume you do the same. If I could pack my home gym into my place at college, trust me I would.

If you don’t like most guys staring at you wondering when you’re gonna be done using the bench and wasting the chalk, why don’t you get a home gym?

but by that logic, fat guys win because they have tits.

D’oh! Lol good come back.
But fat guys cheat because their tits aren’t real.

This is not true at all. I have been lifting religiously for 7 years, I know what I am doing and have it down to a science as far as time is concerned. If I come in and some fucked up jackass (guy or girl) is making their monthly trip to the gym to get a lift in, they need to not only get out of my way, but also get out of every other dedicated members way.

You probably feel this soar about the subject because you have more than likely been viewed as a waste of space in the gym at some point in your life.

OK. What if you’re benching the bar plus 2.5 pounds on each side? Better yet, what is the minimum strength requirement in order to use the bench?

They’re real if you can touch them. Wait…shit…Check please!

Plates

Who are you to say that chicks can’t use the bench? You don’t deserve it over them sorry chief.

OK. How heavy should the plates be, and how many plates?

OK lets put this thread back on track.

When spotting another gym member:

 1. Ask how many reps (if they don’t tell you before)
 2. Ask if they want help with the liftoff (applies to bench press and any other exercises that require liftoff)

and most importantly…

 1. Don’t keep your hands 2 inches from the bar on every single rep, let the lifter tell you when to help.

No as far as I know I’ve never been viewed as a waste of space, but thanks for assuming and making a personal attack on someone you don’t know. That sort of thing will do really well in trying to convince people that you are right in this situation.

I’m sore about the subject because I try to treat everyone with the respect they deserve as human beings. You seem to rate someone’s worth on whether or not they are strong or big, you should read the worst thing in bodybuilding thread because this is EXACTLY what I’m talking about when it comes to ego in bodybuilding. If it bugs you so much she’s only benching the bar then HELP HER.

Teach her how to get stronger because as you said you have it down to an exact science. Or will she still not have any worth to you if she’s only pressing 95 lbs? What’s the cut off here? Give me a number that allows someone to bench press in your presence please because I’m sure all the women on here are dying to know. Don’t respond to this unless you give me a number.

I don’t think I share this view with many people here(at least not ones vocal enough) but I try to look at life in general all the time. That girl on the bench might introduce you to your future wife, she might be your lab partner in chemistry in the spring, STOP JUDGING HER WORTH BASED ON LIFTING ONLY. Guess what if you are an asshole to her then BAM, chemistry sucks for you the whole semester, your future wife is now hooked up with one of your buddies instead etc.

Who’s to say she isn’t as dedicated as you, maybe she couldn’t even do 5 “girl” pushups a month ago, and now she finally worked up the courage to go into a public gym? I’ve helped females who were flat out embarrassed to lift in front of people so they trained in my home gym till they had some confidence to go out to a Golds. I’m talking could barely do bodyweight squats and couldn’t bench press the 10 lb curl bar I had.

What do you think would have happened to them if the first day they went in there and were trying their hardest with the bar and some guy told them they were wasting space? A total emotional catastrophe that’s for sure and if you want to do that to another human being just so you can get your benching in faster then you really need to get a grip. I’m not going to post on this further because it really infuriates me, I’m hungry so I’m going to get some food, I really hope you change your tune about this man.

One of long line of incredibly juvenile and ignorant comments that seems to be consuming this forum lately.

While I agree that some rules should be stated, Jacked Diesel, you’re just an asshole. I’d rather see girls who aren’t afraid of the bench press, or the squat rack, no matter how much they can lift. It’s better to see them trying something that will actually work instead killing themselves on the treadmill and quitting prematurely.

look, i respect none of your pc bullshit opinions, the fat of the matter is everyone gets pissed when they go the gym and we see someone on a piece of equipment wasting everyones time. We have all sat there and said, wow, i could be using that right this second, they are just wasting my time. don’t act for one second like you havent.

cry

I’ve had to bring a cell to the gym because I was on-call for work. Sorry if it pisses you off, but I won’t fuck up my job or my workout because somebody doesn’t like it.

“cry”

Well said. It’s funny how every time someone posts a “rules” topic , it really gets nowhere. The rules of the gym are real simple. Stop worrying so much about other people, but also lend help if they want it. I do not get the point of typing all these rules on this forum. If you really want to make your thoughts be known, type them up and nail them to the front door of your gym.
