Nice!
Ugly, don’t matter so much as it went up!
I would have bet good money there was no way you’d get the 160 after that 155 attempt. Good job.
You’re good at the movie making stuff, colours, transitions and effects etc.
Great work on the strength increases, now like Joe said, get on with some lifting!
good stuff goin on in here Kent
You definitely embody the slogan “having fun along the way.”

Loved the video. …Now get your ASS back to work! ![]()
As a former film & video professional, I can definitly say your video has… too many transitions! Whoops, sorry I reverted to my professor mode. (I really did teach video production, by the way.) Good lifts, by the way. What’s your software? Final Cut, Premiere?
As I understand, they got rid of MP’s in competition because it was too hard to enforce form, so don’t feel bad.
WHEN POPULAR MEDIA DOESN’T SUCK
I don’t normally buy men’s fitness/bodybuilding magazines because they’re mostly crap… a few issues of Flex and some seeds you could grow a pretty good garden. But before my holiday I bought a couple for some light poolside reading. Here’s some actual gems.

That was some pretty slick treadmill work. We gotta do something to get you out of your shell, though.
Nice work on your meet, the treadmill work was very situation.
thanks for sharing a fun look at yourself.

Ya know Canada_K, you really need to find a way to come out of your shell. Maybe join a book club or something just to get you out of the house.
Nice vid dude. Cute bunch o’ kids.[/quote]
x2 Great vid.

I don’t know how I missed this one until now, but that is classic!!
Great work on the video meet too.
Nice lifts. I’d give your video an “A”. The best work was always done by students who enjoyed what they were doing, and this definitely qualifies.

1 in 20, I don’t believe it. Gotta be reporting error.

Dude… it has been proven that 77% of all statisitics are wrong…wait… what?
You can’t trust any statistics in those fitness magazines. After all, they’re 97% advertisements, so you couldn’t possibly get that much useful info.
But… if 77% of statistics are wrong… and magazines are 97% ads… then 0.77 x 0.97 = 74.69% of fitness magazines are wrong!
Ain’t math wonderful?
I took the week before the virtual meet off from lifting. I took the week after the meet off to recover. And then we went on a ski holiday, so I spent that week doing vanity lifts in the hotel gym (bis and tris, bis and tris). But I threw in some one-handed dumbell snatches for fun. I defy anyone to tell me those don’t get your heart pounding.
The first night there we went to a brew-pub for dinner, waited in the lounge for 2 hours for a table (the wait made less annoying by a few pints)… before finally throwing up our hands and going to McDonald’s for dinner.
After eating clean and barely drinking for the past several years, the combined impact of booze and burgers sent my GI tract for a hell of spin. There were colors and textures in the toilet bowl that shouldn’t have seen the light of day. I felt sluggish the entire next day. Then we hit the hill, I took a righteous spill on my snowoboard and bruised my right ass cheek so bad I had to crawl to the bathroom later that night.
And by the way, the virtual meet was a tie. I improved 25 Wilks points and the other guy scored 24. Considering my sloppy form on the MP and the fact the other dude is one of my closest friends we’re calling it even. I’m good with that. The f##ker dropped 20 pounds from his starting weight, which in of itself probably deserves an award.
Anyways, I’m back on the wagon. I’m working up a modified 531 with some higher volume and targeting my weak points (upper chest, traps, grip, side delts). The fun thing is that I used to consider a 315 deadlift unattainable. Now I’m pulling 315 every time I deadlift. Funny how many mentla barriers we put in our own way…
My biggest complaint: I don’t like eating like a lifter!
I mean, I do it, and it’s become relatively easy for me, but I just don’t like it.
- I don’t like stuffing my face when I’m not hungry.
- I don’t like eating massive portions of meat.
- I don’t like powering down a platter of food before I go to bed.
- I don’t like slugging back shakes and waddling around for an hour with a fish tank sloshing around in my belly.
- I don’t like eating a great big meal at breakfast.
- When I get a snack craving I don’t want nuts, or peanut butter, or cottage cheese. I want smarties.
- When I go out for dinner I don’t want a steak with vegetables. My favorite meal out is a rice bowl.
I do it anyway. But once in a while, I have to come here and whine and get it out of my system. I’m keeping my eye on the prize.
I have reached a really neat turning point in my journey. Looking in the mirror I’m still pretty skinny, but my limbs are packed solid. If I can squeeze on any more muscle it’s all going to show up in cross-sectional area. I’ve filled “up”, so now it’s all going to fill “out”. The only down side is that after all this heavy squatting and deadlifting I’m growing an enormous a$$.
Program and diet details will follow. But I’m open to anyone’s suggestions.
Great work on the contest, Kent. Also congrats on keeping a good friend.

That’s inspiring. I seem to be closing on a 315 dead.
So starving yourself for weeks prior to a bodybuilding contest is more fun?
Girls love guys with big butts. What’s your point?

I really need your preferences and discipline…
Wow, I’m so busy lately I don’t have time to lurk in everyone’s logs and sling inappropriate potty-mouth comments. I’m also way behind on my thank yous. If you’re reading this, be warned, once I get some more time I’ll come visit and drop a steaming turd in YOUR log soon.
Cavalier - Actually, I do find dieting easier. Bulking cleanly is quite a bit more work. Executing a wild and uncontrolled dirty bulk is comparatively easy but makes a person inexcusably fat, and that’s not my goal. As for my movie making skills (or lack thereof), I have no training or skills. I just sit down with a bunch of clips and Windows Movie Maker and have some fun. I love doing it and wish I had time to leanr some actual technique.
And the correct math should be… only 3% of the magazine content is not ads, or which 33% are true. So the useful content of the magazine is 0.03*0.33 = 1%.
Bunny - I still can’t get past the screen name. I demand and explanation before I will tak eyou seriously!
Joe - I’ll post my log Saturday after I’ve finished working up the program. Yesterday I did overhead squats, sumo deads (6x6), lunges, and rollouts.
Null - I think 1 in 20 is about right. Have you been to the mall lately? Have you SEEN the size of the asses on these people?
Mass - Thanks for the compliment. I have other videos like that one… I lead a fairly FABULOUS life. If you’re as old as you feel then I’m 50. If you’re as old as you act, then I’m 12.
kmcnyc - All looks at me are “fun”… or nauseatingly inappropriate, but it depends on how well we know each other.
Albino - I don’t have a shell. I don’t have an “inside voice” either. What you see is pretty much what you get. The guys who work for me wonder what the hell they got themselves in to.
dogg - My ass is apparently working over-time, thank you very much. Which may be the reason it’s become HUGE.
snap - I believe if you aren’t laughing at yourself a little you’re missing the point, and you’re not looking at yourself very objectively. As soon as you start taking yourself too seriously, THAT’S when you become “old”.
Brett - Thanks for the kudos. To be honest, watching YOUR squat videos is currently what is driving me. DEEEEEEEEP squats with the big weight is my new goal.
Goat - Wait… are you back or something? What’s the deal here?
username - Thanks! I believve that explodes the myth that it is necessary to be big in the belly to lift heavy.
Pete & hel - I’m actually honored you guys came to visit. I think the gains were quick because I was starting so far below average… sigh…
kimba - I aim to please.
And to the others I’m sure I missed - I promise to be more consistent in recognizing anyone who takes the time to post your thoughts. I appreciate it.
