The Grind...

WHAT’S ON YOUR NIGHTSTAND???
You can tell a lot about a person by what is on their nightstand beside their bed. Books? Garbage? Porn? Nothing?

What’s on my Nightstand
Smoking Seventeen - Janet Evanovich (detective humor for women)
Ember - Jeanne DuPrau (post-apocalyptic fiction for teens)
This month’s issue of Architectural Digest
This month’s and last month’s issues of Popular Mechanics
Red - Ted Dekker (religious themed adult fiction)
Me Talk Pretty One Day - David Sedaris (top-ten fiction)
Soul of a Lifter - Gino Arcaro (non-fiction musings on the iron game)
Wicked Bugs - Amy Stewart (non-fiction entomology for regular people)
Easy Food for Kids
MacLeans commemorative issue on Jack Layton

Plus…
Lamp
Alarm clock

I’m drowing in a backlog of reading material.

This last week has been an emotional mixed bag. Work has been very draining mentally, and on top of everything there was a major equipment failure that meant me and my group were on high alert over the weekend. A lot of internal negativity came to a head… at the same time I was fasting (go figure, fasting makes a person testy… major news flash). The combined impacts meant I had a bugger of a time sleeping that night because my brain was working overtime.

I ended up missing 3 consecutive workouts. I covered the basics, but conditioning and “weak points” got short shrift.

JUST THE FACTS MA’AM
Sunday - SQ and legs
531 Squat - 3x205, 3x225, 4x255, 3x225
A1 Leg extensions - 9x200, 8x200, 8x200, 8x200
A2 Leg curls - 9x145, 8x145, 8x145, 8x145
B1 Reverse curls - 12x70, 12x70, 12x70
B2 Romanian deadlifts - 12x135, 10x185, 10x185
Front Squat - 8x135, 6x135

Squats are just going nowhere lately. Grrrrrr.

This is definitely my most demanding workout day. Finishing with two major exercises like front squats and RDLs after already thrashing the legs is rough. But I designed that on purpose so I’m getting what I asked for. I’m getting throughly bored with this workout template. After “max effort” week next week I’m gonna take a week off and change it up.

Solid work CK. Any idea what you’ll do next?

JUST THE FACTS MA’AM
Saturday
The local Popeye’s store was holding a bench press contest.

B1 rollouts - 11, 8, 8
B2 bb curls - 10x80, 10x80, 8x80

I am going to complete max effort week, and take next week off. Next week I go on 12-hour shifts and it will be even more stressful.

Oh well, if you think work is stressful, try being unemployed in this economy and you’ll really go beserk.

Is this the fast food Popeye’s restaurant?

My current feelings about things…

LMAO.

Max effort week continues…

It looks like I’ll finally have some time to muck around in everyone else’s logs this weekend. I’ve got my disinfectant and latex gloves and I’m ready to wallow in filth!

I also got my first month’s set of programs from my coach… all FORTY FOUR PAGES worth. Holy crap.

Waiting

Hey guys. I’m really freaking busy. I have many things I like to do… too many actually… and not enough hours to do them all. This morning was broken when my oldest slammed open the door to my bedroom shrieking in tears. I bolted out of bed like I’d been electrocuted in high-powered ACTION mode, ready to grab whoever was injured and go racing off to the hospital…

… only to find that the source of the tears was outrage at his brother who ripped th computer mouse away before it was his turn.

This is my one day to sleep in. I was PISSED. This began a crazy day of playing with the kids, cleaning the house, rearranging furniture, painting the shield for my Halloween costume, doing the mother of all grocery runs, cleaning the fish tank, and losing horribly at a game of Settlers of Catan.

It’s 1am and instead of getting some much needed rest, in some futile effort to get my cortisol levels under control (sweet bejeebers, my fat distribution screams that I’m MARINATING in cortisol). Instead I’m blogging. I miss this place!

My new working routine starts a week Monday. I’m taking next week off training because my body needs a break after Max Effort week, I start 6 days of 12-hour shifts Monday, and I need the time to digest my coach’s first program. I got a lot of single-leg work because apparently he’s worried about the bredth of my ass.

I actually considered asking my wife if my pants made my butt look big. Then I realized the sexual ambiguity and thought better of it. Thanks for not abandoning me completely guys (and als), even though I’ve not done a great job of bring the AWESOME lately.

Holy shit!!!

And Daddy’s not even in diet mode yet. Do these Dennis the Menaces have any idea how to behave when you’re fighting low blood sugar?

Well, at least be happy you have a job. Even if the hours take a toll on you, I can tell you absolutely not having one is just crushing.

I can sympathise with the 12 hour shifts and far too much to do,for me it’s been a foul week of 4x12+ with inadequate staffing and a completely out of control and ,in my opinion, and unsafe hospital.

Wow, there’s a lot of people posint on here. I had to dig around to find my log. Well, here is the update.

JUST THE FACTS MA’AM
the would be sweet f##k-all.

I’m on shift, doing 12s, which nicely coincided with a de-load which has now turned into a week off. I don’t handle shift work well, so removing the stress of getting my sorry (and, apparently, excessively WIDE) ass to the gym.

ME week looked good-

your Mr.Mom day got out of control - good times

let the spangly tight countdown begin

Your log made me think of this guy. Next thing you know you’ll show up at McDonalds 3 minutes after they stop selling breakfast and it’ll be on!
