The Grind...

Fuchsia spangly briefs are ON !!!

I’m glad the missus is warming to the idea.

Hmmm . . . we know you already work hard, so what exactly would they be looking for?

After that last talk you should schedule a gladiator move marathon followed by a musical.

Just for laughs.

JUST THE FACTS MA’AM

Saturday

I went in without a plan to finish up the last set of leg work from Friday, and to do a “go by feel” workout to target my weak points. It turns out I suck at “go by feel”. I’m going to have to map out a plan for this to work.

Incline db presses - 9x80, 7x85, 2x90, 6x80
Weighted pushup - 6x45, 7x45, 8x45, 9x45
Front squats 10x135, 10x135, 10x135, 10x135

Done and done. Funny how I failed so fast when I went to the 90s on inclines. Pride and ego demand I get back my strength on these.

Todd - I’m sure we’ll both be weeping on each others shoulders when we hit the DARK depths of carb withdrawl.

DJS - Yeah, one day fasting doesn’t lend itself to identifying trends, but I kinda think that I was leaner/fuller the day after the refeed. At least i’m intrigued enough to keep doing ti for a while.

Git - That drawing of Bert is f##king HILARIOUS!! Where did that come from?

username - Yeah, things are looking pretty good. I’m well and truly stoked.

nyc - Spangles are nto allowed. Only solid color trunks, with no adornment, textures, patterns, metallic, or RHINESTONES are allowed. And in honor of the purple tiger-print speedo, I’m thinking it’s gotta be purple.

cav - What the coaches will tell me is whether I’ve got a shot. Like I said before, I’ve no desire to step on stage at my best and pull last place. If the truth is just that I’m out of my league, I can make my peace with that and skip the stage. I’m simply not objective about my own physique, and I’d rather take the opinion of people in the know.

Joe- ugh

Nice, Im happy your wife relented and you guys are on the same page…ahhhh compromise, its what good marriages are made of!

Nice lifting Kent, its got to be encouraging that you and the Mrs. got everything squared away.

Looking Good. Will be good to see where you go with this.

Well, I was supposed to train today. I was too tired and just slept instead. I have now skipped a day, and feel ridiculously guilty.

Glad to hear you and wifey made nice, helps everyone in the end.

have silently been lurking…but in a non creepy way of course!

glad you are making some progress with the wife. I wonder if you could encourage her to come to the gym with you? no?
Thats gotta be rough.

I am pretty familiar with the IF thang
First introduced to me through PN. I still do -eat stop eat- on occasion, but it’s been awhile since I made it the whole 24hrs.

Getting caught up in here. Fantastic news about both your wife and the coaches. Sounds like things are really falling into place now.

I might have missed it but do you already have a show in mind?

james

Wednesday
It’s time to get back on the wagon. Up at 5:30 to run hills.

Hill sprints - x5
Biking hills
Total time 45 mins

Holy crap the hill sprints wipe me out. MAYYYYYYbe because the hill is like 1000 miles long and loaded with switchbacks.

James - I’m shooting for a show in May. It’s the only natty show in my province.

mom - Glad to see you back. No I will not be taking my wife to the gym with me. Even when we are talking totally rationally, she’s quite kindly explained that she just can’t take workout or diet advice from me. SO I don’t push.

JUST THE FACTS MA’AM

Summary of max effort week:

Military press: 5x130
Deadlift: 5x295, 1x315, 1x335
Bench: 1x250
Squat: 4x250

Squats were a bit of a disappointment, and the maxes are not my “best evers”, but then again I’m not focusing purely on driving the numbers up. I’m making progress, I think I’m putting on a some good weight, and I feel a greater plan taking shape. Today I followed a visiting buddy’s workout and the higlights included:

171 pushups.

Tomorrow will be a rest day, and then I begin 531 cycle 3.

In closing, I’d like to quote from the late Jack Layton. For our American friends, the Honorable Mr Layton was a political party leader who this morning lost his battle with cancer. I didn’t really agree with his politics, but he succeeded in literally changing the face of Canadian politics… in a fashion that no single man has done since the days of Lester B Pearson (the dude who invented the UN… and yes it was a Canadian). I personally believe he was an unprecedented force for Canadian unity, and he is person for whom I have deep respect. This is the final line from his a letter we wrote just a few days before he died in an open letter to the country… the man was really a class act.

“Mr friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful, and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.”

Hadn’t heard of Mr Layton, but sounds impressive. Wish more American politicians talked liked that. The political scene has got awfully contentious down here.

Nothing wrong with that ME week Kent, nothing at all.

Congrats on the maxes… and thats a lot of pushups. Nice work.

Wow, we get intentional lies and denial of reality…

JUST THE FACTS MA’AM

Wednesday

531 Military Press - 5x95, 5x105, 8x120
A1 db shrugs - 15x90, 12x90, 11x90, 11x90
A2 side laterals - 10x30, 8x30, 8x30, 8x30
Decline pushups - 31, 20, 18
B1 1-arm db press - 11x40, 10x40, 10x40
B2 leg raises - 11, 10, 9
Rear delt extensions - 10x25, 8x25

Nothing special.

Cav - There are very few areas where Canadians can legitimately say we do things better. We have FINALLY succeeded in bringing decorum and respect to politics.

Joe - Yeah, it was OK. You are still roundly kicking my ass.

DJS - It was a ridiculous drop set starting with 18, then 17, then 16… and on and on. It took forever.

Null - That sounds like my sex life.

thursday … SUX!!!

Hill sprints x7 (20 minutes… big f##king hill)
Hills on bike (20 minutes)
Gasping (the remainder of the day)

Yesterday, for the first time in probably YEARS, I did my workout without any warups, stretching, or mobility work. I was running late, see. Today my neck is stiff and sore.

Another gentle less on from my body that it is OLD AND REQUIRES PROPER CARE AND MAINTENANCE.
