T-Nation meet in Vegas would be epic.

The dude in the blue shirt had vented shorts. You can only imagine what was going on back there.

I don’t post much here, but I’m the dude with a handful of K’s man boob. It was a proud moment. If only I could remember it better.

Hey Kent…happy you enjoyed the vacay! hope to hear from you soon.

Cav - The sick f##kers in the photo with me are (sadly) 3 of my best friends. We had a ridiculous time.

dday - Yeah I can hardly believe that I spent my hard earned dollars and vacation time on a trip to the corn belt. We’ve been meeting each year at one guy’s home town. Last year we went to Portland and the west cost. The year before we went to Banff in the Rocky Mountains. This year… sigh… Des Moines.

username - You didn’t start a storm. I like talking about this stuff, and trust me I don’t feel put upon. I can handle myself. It’s just a case of different goals. My particular take on 531 should better get me to my destination. It’s different from most of you guys, and I’m totally OK with that. I’ll still be prettier.

Goat - I thought what he was doing was obvious. He’s trying to steal my wallet!

late2thegame - That is a 1.5L beer glass shaped like a cowboy boot. We drank 4. We were loopy.

DJ - …bad taste at T-Nation…

dogg and dog - You should ask what happened at the airport when I landed…

typical and Joe - For what it cost me to fly to f##king Des Moines I could have flown me AND my wife to Vegas and paid for the hotel room. Don’t think the irony was lost on me!

nwiles - Buddy, you need to drink more appropriately for your weight. Say… Shirley Temples?

Matty - Des Moines is not as sexy as DR, but at least I got some semblance fo a tan. I mean COME ON!!!

How much did that tire way? It looks like it weighs a ton and is massive. Love the cowboy boot beer glass, haha, a few of those and I’d be demolished.

Was this what you encountered at the airport?

What’s up K. I still think you’re a dick. I need a new place to hang out. I think this place will do.

I got to go with DDay and give a WTF for a vacation in Iowa

I spent p.l.e.n.t.y of time in the midwest- both on the road,
and more in collge - competing.

corn fed or not those bastids can wrestle.

that Tire is Hyuge- and that big glass looks like some kind of vaccum pump from austin powers.

Random Thoughts - Part 74.2

  1. I still don’t feel like logging my workouts and food. Soon, I promise. I really enjoy this forum, and you guys are a daily laugh-riot. But I am just BURNT OUT o blogging!

  2. I cannot quit eating the caramels out of the secretary’s candy jar. It’s getting ridiculous. For some idiotic reason I have no problem resisting the bowl of mini-candy bars on MY OWN DESK.

  3. I cannot fall asleep at night! The wife and kids are on holiday without me, the house is nice and quiet, I have the entire bed to myself, I’m tired… and I can’t fall asleep. WTF?

  4. Harry Potter was way cool. I’ve been saying for years that what the HP franchise really needs is for Professor McGonnagle (Maggie Smith) to kick some righteous ass. And she delivered. That and watching the big bad walking barefoot across a giant room strewn with bloody corpses whilst being trailed by a giant snake was also pretty satisfying.

  5. Work is really busy. Having people to delegate work to is only marginally helpful.

  6. I am really enjoying the high rep/isolation workouts I’ve been doing. It’s been so long since I’ve worked out like a bodybuilder (rather than a powerlifter)… I think it was overdue. I think it’s important, just on general principles, to periodically do what you haven’t done.

  7. We’re experiencing some of the most beautiful weather ever these days. I’m in an office. Grrrrrrr.

For anyone who cares, “Sparky” up above is a sawed off-mutant with several powerlifting records and titles. He’s strong a f##k, but he’s short and envies my AWESOMEness.

Tell you what. We’ll swap places. I’ll shave my head and you put on a wig. It solves everything:

No bowl of caramels in my apartment to blow your diet.

I get your job while you enjoy the relaxation of unemployment.

You get to wander around all you like in our 98 degree, 90% humidity.

sometimes the quiet is deafening.

When I moved from Queens to Staten Island, the lack of trains screeching, cars beeping and derelicts yelling kept me up all night!

At last… here were the results of “max effort week”. Deload this week, and then cycle 2 next.

Holy crap, squats are feeling really hard. Maybe it’s because I’m really trying to go LOOOOOOW. Maybe it’s because I’m a pussy. I’m not sure which. I’ve also decided I can’t stand leg presses. The lower back just feel compromised at the bottom, and it doesn’t “hit” the quads the way I like. I’m thinking frotn squats. Any other thoughts? Sissy squats?

And the DIET!

I’ve got a new eating plan that involves some funking attempt at intermittent fasting that I’m excited to give a whirl. However, with travel, holidays, and work commitment, it won’t make sense to try before mid-August. Until then, I’m kind of coasting along on this:

Breakfast
4 egg omlette with asparagus, mushrooms, and green onion

Snack
Sliced green pepper, snap peas, and hummus

Lunch
6 oz teriyaki chicken, 1/2 cup salsa, 1 oz cheese.

Snack
Big bunch of spinach, handful of broccoli slaw, 1/2 zucinni, 1/3 avocado, 1tbsp olive oil, 1 tbsp vinegar, 1/2 can tuna

Dinner
Whatever meat the family is eating, whatever vegetable the family is eating.

Snack
2/3 cup fat free Greek yogurt, scoop protein powder, 1/3 cup berries; OR
several spoons of natural PB as we watch TV.

Pre & Post Workout
1 scoop protein, 1 tbsp gatorade powder, 1 tsp creatine

I’ve no idea what the macros are, or what the calories are. I’m just coasting deliberatley with no purpose. Like I said, mid-august we’ll ge ton the new plan. To be honest, it feels good not to be training for a purpose for a while.

What’s the goal? Quad Size? Strength?

Front squats are certainly high on the list. You could also do high box squats. Both of those should have a direct carry over effect to your regular squats.

A low squat of 245 for reps is not pussy. They’re supposed to be unfun. Just make sure form is OK, are you arching back? Keeping abs & torso tight?

The diet looks pretty sound if that is how you eat most of the time, i aspire to eat that well …seriously. My next big thing is also to tackle diet but i will be starting (this week ) to try to get some way towards where you are even now.

What kind of changes are you thinking of and why ??

15 pullups? awesome! I hope to one day crack the teens

HOLY ARM PUMP!!!

I was supposed to do deadlifts, but between too little sleep last night and a crispy-red back sunburn from too much time in the garden I just didn’t feel like it. Besides, Todd COMMANDED me to do his bicep-blasting gun run today, and I fell in line out of sheer terror that he’d kick my a$$.

A. Tricep pushdowns - 60x12, 70x12, 80x12, 70x12, 60x12 (15 s rest between sets)
B. Reverse grip EZ bar curls - 20x0, 30x10, 30x10, 40x10, 40x10 (15 s rest between sets)
(I didn’t include the cambered bar cause I don’t know what it weighs)
C1. 1 arm db extensions - 8x30, 8x30, 8x30, 8x30
C2. Standing preacher curls - 6+3x50, 6+6x50, 6+6x60, 6+6x60 (first 6 strict, last 6 anything goes)
D. Standing french press - 12x50, 12x50, 12x50
E. Concentration curls - 12x30, 8x30 (these seem incredibly gay, but Todd scares me so I did 'em)
F. Tricep pushdown drop set - 16x60, 12x50, 8x80, 16x60

Holy crap what a pump. I have NEVER had a bloodrush like I did today. I wish i’d had my phone with me to snap some pictures because it was RIDICULOUS! Of course this may be because I haven’t done direct arm workouts in about a decade and I may have forgotten what it feels like… who gives a shit it was way cool.

Okay Todd, it’s time for you to move to Alberta because we need to be training partners.
