Yea so got to the gym later than I wanted and really could/can only think about Poutine and a bucket of Beers while watching the Lions hopefully not cover.

Also LOL this gym. They have literally 3 straight bars in the gym so they decide to replace the bathroom floors which were literally in perfect condition. To pay for this they jacked up prices and started charging for lockers and towels. They also stopped using the AC.

Cant wait for a change of scenery. The one I have picked out even has a POWER RACK!!! and CHAINS!!! Might not have straight bars though.

Didnt hate hate pendlays, RDLs aggravated my SI Joint. Still have a TON of things to try before January.

Physique right now is something of a miracle with the high amount of complete garbage I am eating and my booze intake LOL.

Nice easy pumpy workout and I cant wait to get the fk out of here.

Home Again

Gym Interviews begin today.

1st gym: Crossfit 871

Has crossfit stuff and normal gym stuff. Had Kilo plates but they are all broken.

Strengthes: Sleds, Bumpers (for Olys I wont do), Power Rack
HUGE WEAKNESS: The Benches are trash, like not even serviceable. Best case scenario is this too tall crossfit bench I would have to set up every time with plates for my feet.

The Workout:
Squat Pause Triples to 315
Burner Set 16 @ 225
Deads Double Overhand to like 375
Calf Raises
Ham Curls
Sleds Pulls

Insane quad pump on those sleds. Squat felt better as the workout went on and my body was being reworked into proper ROMs.

I dont do cardio but when I get that phone call that dinner is ready I wish I did more cardio.

Delt felt much better in the evening.

Crossfit 871 is NOT going to make the cut. The benches are just crap and nobody puts ANYTHING away. Price is also about triple most other gyms and location is the farthest. And a pet peeve, the best piece of equipment is a power rack on the 2nd floor with the abs and cardio crap where there are no plates and no barbells.

Powerfit is another crossfit / normal gym combo. AND THEY HAVE KILO PLATES that arent broken. Bench is a bit high and I will need to bring my own skinny 45s but this gym is in a commanding lead. Also location is a 5 minute walk vs 15 minute car ride.

Beach Body This will probably be the best pure PLing gym. I used to go there a long time ago but they have since added a ton. Location not great but not the worst.

Prince My old stand by, this would be like going back to an abusive ex because they have a hot tub…literally, this is the only gym with a hot tub.

Cancelled because I was sick. Been battling a stomach bug for over a week that I chalked up to diet (read: booze) but pretty sure I got the parasites again. Well yesterday it got really bad so I took the Vermox and I am pretty sure I am good to go today.

I also missed a Posada which made everybody mad because they thought I was playing possum. Like you see this fridge full of 4 Loco? You see this bottle of cheap bourbon and diet coke?? I said I wanted to go and I even prepped. When ya’ll go to the club every weekend and I say no every weekend is it ever because I am sick? Hell no, I tell you honestly, its because I am too old to sit in the middle of a bunch of chain smokers and listen to shitty music while paying too darn much for dranks!!! I dont lie and damn I wanted to be there. Oh well, I am happy they missed me. I miss them too.

Everything felt HEAVY AF today!!! That 545 was RPE 9.75. Really makes me want to get back immediately into PLing rather than the Hypertrophy block.

BEACHBODY Bench was wide but slippery (fixed with a yoga mat so dirty I am certain it was at the 1st Woodstock and has not been washed). The rack is also a mile back so pretty sure this gym wont be happening either. Also everything is kind clustered trying to get plates on bars. Power Rack was solid (but not bench compatible). For 300 pesos a month though I could join 2 gyms because I liked everything but the bench…depending on how Deads work out there.

OK Peace Out and Happy Saturday! I have my redemption attempt meeting my Brother in Law’s Fiance’s parents tonight. Pretty sure there is a name for this exact occasion in spanish…but I dont know it. LOL there is “Pedida” and for me it is Pedida de Mano.

GREAT WORKOUT!!! Sick pump (#galletas y tomales), found a chest supported row that doesnt make me want to puke and NOT ONE PERSON SAID HI!!! Fkn awesome.

I did accidentally do a crunch when I though an ab machine was a pullover machine though, but I rushed home to eat a tomale, pancake PB&J and a cinnamon roll and then took a shower so, crisis averted I think. No abs here. #powerlifting

Seriously though, love everything about that gym except the Bench will not work for heavy work but I am thinking I am doing hypertrophy work and it wont matter as much. It is just like the bench at Juarez, not even a liftoff will save how far back that rack is. Once again though for 300 pesos I can go to 2 gyms.

Morning with fam etc then off to a sports bar watching both NFL and NBA at the same time was pretty awesome…then Jose’s GF(ish) called and said there was a drag show so hell yea we went. We got there and I was all like this can not be it. A bunch of Vaqueros in an abandoned warehouse rocking out to a CCR cover band (who were awesome)…but then the Queen’s came out. Whole thing was pretty fun. I felt pretty degenerate drinking not with the fam on Christmas but this was pretty much Jose and my only opportunity.

Basically this was a test to see how much I could get on the bar at this gym. 240kg will be plenty for a while. (and I know they are pounds but I am pretending they are KGs because I have the 10kg plates at this gym)

Diet: Cookie and Nutella free all day…but headed for pizza with some buddies. I already feel leaner and better though.

Back really bothered me today and nothing was great. I get lazt on mobility for like 2 days and BOOM!!! Oh well, lesson learned…again…

Diet: No sugar diet crashed and burned hard today as I ate about 8+ of these chocolate balls that are supposedly 130 cals each :smiley: annnd I didnt have any coffee today which gave me headaches all day and by the time I realized that was why it was too late to have coffee.

I am pretty sure I found Mexico’s strongest PLer on instagram today and also got insta followed back.

His weight and numbers all look about right and judging by his grey hair in his beard his age lines up too. (270-185-340 for 795 at 100kg BW and he is 37 as of that competition)

As soon as I start lifting again I will start the instagramz shit talks :smiley:

It looks to me like my best vs his best we are close in Squat and Bench and his Dead crushes mine.

This is the motivation I think I needed. Right now my instagram is a constant reminder I dont even lift.

I wanted to Test my Bench buuuut this gym’s benches are fkn terrible. I cant wait to never go again. Sofi did my workout and Jose did Pull.

Been kind of old feeling etc but I got a new bed cushion thingy so hopefully that helps and I think today I learned that OHP is more important for delt mobility than I thought. That should help everything from Bench to Squats.

2018 PROGRAM

I will make an in depth post/video on this but basically it will be the Big 3 and Prehab. No more Front Squats, Cleans or Testing my OHP etc. I have put all that shit in the “ego pile” which is a fun pile to play in but we are getting LOCKED THE FUCK IN!!!

LOL My Bloods Strike AGAIN!!!

I had to buy some local test to get me by but to be sure it was solid I had my total test tested. I guess the test is good because they are sending my labs to Mexico City and refuse to release my results to me LOOOOOOOL!!!

My wife just got off the phone and they are all super concerned. Sofi was all like no it is for “medication” etc and they were all like HE IS GOING TO DIE!!!

Still startling to me that people dont recognize what test injections would look like in bloods.

As long as I am in here I have been putting this off but here is…

2017 in Review: A History of Fails

-Impatient

This is the big one and we could stop the list here tbh. I rushed to come back from injuries and this just prolonged them. I also competed 3 times in 16 weeks. This was kind of the driving motivation for me to force this.

Going forward…luckily there are no competitions near Torreon and I am not testing/competing for a long time.

-Squats and Deads

Blunt force is how I am wired and what got me to where I am. The mistake was too much volume and intensity that at my prior strength levels these percentages and methods worked great.

Going forward…when the weights get heavier I will go to less frequent high intensity. Frequency is kept high with undulating intensity.

-Split and Back Training

I adjusted my split from Lower Pull Push to Lower Push Pull to have a more normal life (which obviously I didn’t take advantage of) and my back training still took the hit. I didn’t train it heavy enough and it shows in how my upper back is rounding in heavy squats and deads.

Going Forward…back to that golden split and I am bringing back heavy rowing and going to smash!!

Side Note: The difference in these splits seems minimal but they are huge. With Pull before Lower you have to keep pulling lighter for max performance on Lower day. Back then gets weaker and lifts suffer. I treated Pull day like a throwaway day and it showed more than anything in my Squats.

-Competing 3 times in 16 weeks

This doesn’t need much of an explanation but this BURNED ME OUT!!! More mentally than physically because I adjusted my training as needed.

Going forward…long offseason with much lighter weights and less strict programming (for the random fun workout).

-Deadlift Specificity…not enough singles work (or any) so I will add a bunch more of that.

-Supps
3 Comps running together in 16 weeks my cycle became a bit prolonged and jumbled tbh. My dosages were also not great for PLing.

Going forward…more defined cycles and SIMPLE!!!

What I Got Right:
-I added 204 pounds to my total last year.
-I made decent adjustments on the fly to combat programming flaws.
-Bench, my bench prep was pretty on.
-Diet, I have found a lot of ways that work for me to do what I want to do with my body and my physique has been consistently better every month (until December).
-MOST IMPORTANTLY I LEARNED A SHIT TON!!! 2018 is the year of the Millhouse.

Went to see my ex today and have to admit she was looking guuuuud in all her adequateness of racks and benches and hot tub. Nothing about Prince gym is even kind of spectacular but it has every thing needed and management has the kind of lackluster enthusiasm for loud noises that a PLer needs. If I went back to her now though we wouldnt appreciate each other later.

Feeling pretty annoyed. 1st I just dont feel like my Squat form is its best and I dont know if the tweaks are the egg or the chicken. That tweak in back is still there and quad tendonitis came back the other day and is lingering. I found the back tweak it was a literal lump in a place I never knew could get injured. Leave it to me to tweak the untweakable, take that science!!! Quad is meh, I really dont like Squat reps (cause I am a wuss) but strong chance I junk squat programming for heavy(ish) singles ERDAY!!!

When in moods like this last (this) year I would have ignored the surprisingly well stocked liquor cabinet in my Suegros house…but this is the new me. Hellooooooo random bottles with 1-3 shots in it WE TASTE TESTING MIDRANGE TONIGHT!!! and probably watching Archer.

I have never been happier that this house always saves like 2 bites of everything.

Friday I took a 2 hour nap (not a power black out just a nap haha but I def got into the whiskey after) and woke up with an epiphany…PREHAB!!! This is a marathon not a sprint and I am so itching to move some weight I lose sight of that sometimes.

So for Prehab basically it is Yoga and a ton of very high reps isolating trouble areas. I read somewhere that lactic acid may help rebuild cartilae etc…whatever the mechanism at work I have had success with high reps in the past so that is what I am doing.

I have also been doing yoga first thing when I wake up for the last few days and although my ass/hip still has some kind of pinched something my bench arch has become better.

Yoga I am doing now and I will look to add in more.

So, going to just admit it here, I’m all into this new agey woowoo shit and that includes yoga. I’m totally embarrassed how I am that old dude in the corner that can barely reach his knees while all of the chicks in the room are completely flat, holding their toes. I resolved to get more flexible this year. And when we do that arms out punching shit and after thirty seconds my arms are just on fire so I pretend like I need to drink some water just because I can’t keep doing it, and they go on for another two minutes while I’m drinking water and readjusting and generally uncomfortable, well, yeah, I’m that guy.

And, I’m jacked compared to everybody else in the room, well, you know, I start thinking about balance.

And I feel bad.
