Your joking right?..about the not lifting part. I don’t think they’re idiots, it just seems weird. However like you said stockzy, it’s for the laughs and it’s no biggie.
There are regulars in GAL/PWI/SAMA with 1000’s of posts and I’ve never seen them post once in BBing, PL, or any of the ‘training’ forums or even discuss training. Why hang out at a bodybuilding site (for lack of a better term) if you don’t train?
Hmmmmmmmmm… I guess I could be considered one of those people… But, I actually DO train. I’ve been slacking for various reasons, but that’s another story.

I lurk and occasionally post on other forums, such as the BB and the supplements forums, but, with all the unnecessary garbage/drama that seems to be the norm these days, I don’t have this burning need to talk about training. I’ve been working out for a long time, (with some stretches where I was more serious about it than others), and it’s something that I did for me. I’ve never been one to have long and involved conversations about traing, because it was sort of a ‘personal’ thing for me and I just enjoyed the process of it. I would rather talk about just about anything else, usually.

I guess what i’m saying is that i’d rather read and do it, rather than talk about it. That’s all.

Your last sentence pretty much sums it up for me as well. I leave the technical shit to the pros.

I lift as often and as heavy as my body will allow. Someone whose never worked in a factory for years might not get that. Work boots and concrete floors have taken there toll, not to mention the back breaking work.

This is troublesome to me as well. More because the only time I have to go on this site is when I’m at work. I really wish there was a way to block the avatars in your profile. I definitely get strange looks when I’m on the forum. Everyone’s avatars now are either half naked dudes or soft core porn shots or mini clips of chicks. Now I’m not against any of this but its not really work appropriate.

I have to agree. I like round booties. I do NOT like round booties popping on a big computer screen whenever I pull the site up and may be around company that has no clue why I am looking at soft core porn, whether that be at work or anywhere else.

Some of these guys have avatars that ARE blatantly pornographic. I don’t exactly bring my dvd collection to public places.
This is the reason I won’t go this site while I am at work.

Thank you for showing me I am not the only freak on the website. I like to read about training sometimes in class, if its boring and I am not learning anything, why not? I never pull up this site because I don’t want to be that guy who is pulling up pictures of half naked dudes and 3/4th naked chicks in class.

Also, the “Most Popular Pages” never fails to have a “Best Porn Site,” or “Who has the Best Rack?” thread somewhere along there.

I don’t know why a lot of people would want to post in any BB thread. All that ever goes on their is shit slinging. Than of course we have the golden thread of T-cell where only the best of the best are allowed in. Let’s say one of these posters goes in and posts something that you big guys don’t agree with? he/she gets torn a new ass. I’d just assume leave my ass in SAMA/GAl/ and the such. Not worth the headache to be chastised online. I can get that home.

I will say this though, I do read a lot of on here and have learned a lot. Just not ready to post in those forums.
I’m sorry, but who in the T-Cell is getting “torn a new ass”?

If you are going to lie, at least do better than that.

In some ways I think it has gotten worse here in the forums, But that is kind of to be expected. A higher number of members will obviously dilute the serious population…

I personally don’t get on to post much anymore because I don’t keep my log anymore, (that’s where 99.999% of my posts are from anyway)

And time restraints…Often there are so many idiotic comments between intelligent thoughts on here that I do not have the time to sift through all the BS.

I can’t tell you how many times I will start reading a thread and then just scroll down through it until I see someone’s profile that i respect and then just read what they said.

There are some GREAT members here, as well as some of the best content on the web…That’s why I’ve stayed-even if I don’t say much.

The problem in general is that the majority of posters are immature and have no respect. I think that moderators should moderate more, and not let all kinds of stupid posts slip through. The fact is that, the more noise is on the forums, the less interesting it will be for experienced athletes to contribute.

There’s no point in arguing with pencilneck 15 and 16 year old kids that think they are experts. As to how big a man is or how strong he is, that is less interesting, as long as someone can be humble, write in a civilized manner and is interested to develop his own knowledge, and to contruibute to the growth of others, anyone should be treated with respect.

The attitude of a big percentage of the membership is just plain wrong (this again attributed to immaturity and lack of respect).

That being said, there’s still some knowledgeable members around, and if one look closely, most of them do not get involved in stupid arguments or debates.

Posts that are just noice, should be filtered out, also posts were there is a lack of respect should be deleted.

Arguments are healthy, but do discuss the matter at hand, and not call each other names.

So my vote goes to stricter moderation, I think that in the long run it will be only of the positive.

I’m not sure that would work here. Since forum topics are living, breathing, changing things (unlike videos posted to share sites like YouTube which are static). Also, popularity of an idea or suggestion doesn’t equal its value to the community, particularly over the long run. People might say some unpopular things that nonetheless need to be said. Likewise, the most popular posts might be banal. Maybe we could create just one forum that follows this model, with folks voting on posted topics (even if they don’t post).
Maybe have “Sheriffs” do the moderating then? Kind of like membership in the T-Cell, invites can only be done by a few select members.

This always strikes me as bizzarre as well.

I’m on the site daily. I make my living in front of a computer screen and it’s an easy break in the monotony. Reading about and seeing training vids gets me psyched up for my PM workout after sitting on my ass all day. There’s also some pretty funny stuff sometimes in GAL and PWI is always good for some form of sick entertainment.

Having said that, if I didn’t train, I wouldn’t be hanging around a training/bodybuilding site. That’s just retarded. There are 1000’s of funnier places on the web, and I’m a moderator on the biggest political site in my state, so I don’t need PWI for that discussion.

There are regulars in GAL/PWI/SAMA with 1000’s of posts and I’ve never seen them post once in BBing, PL, or any of the ‘training’ forums or even discuss training. Why hang out at a bodybuilding site (for lack of a better term) if you don’t train?
Agreed. I own a bike…so I sometimes go to motorcycle discussion forums. I lift weights…so I go to bodybuilding discussion forums.

Why the hell would some sedentary person come HERE for porn and to do knock knock jokes?

Further, why do some of these same people jump into discussions about training???

I have seen some of the guys say they don’t train when this question came up before. That shit is fucking strange.

They are working on it and they are listening to you guys. I am a moderator now in the bodybuilding forum but I can’t move threads out of that forum to other forums.

I also don’t like the idea of censorship even though posters like dankid and trextacy seem to have little if anything to offer but headaches and arguments with people more experienced than they are.

I know from personal experience on this site that it does help. I made my newbie gains before I started posting here but the information from the articles, the BB forum, the T-Cell Alpha and the nutrition forum have helped me corner in on that next phase. I found 5/3/1 which was a blessing on this site and the site also prepared me for doing split routines for the first time. If I have a question ill use the search button and if nothing comes up ill start a thread in the nutrition forum to hopefully get that query resolved.

I used to post in the BB forum on stuff relating to TBT, best exercises and the threads about pros. I got flamed a couple of times for posting stuff in the latter but it was just opinionated statements that some people are going to agree with and some aren’t. With that I think we have to be careful in defining and refining statements that are just stupid and trollish and those that offer a different perspective that make some people think in a different way. The problem with the idiotic statements that are just random and uncalled for in a SERIOUS thread is that they are highlighed when people quote it. In all likely hood if you leave that statement alone the poster wont post anything like that in the thread again. If he does atleast you can do something then.

The GAL forum is just fun. For me, most of my posts are there because im on holiday so ill see whats going on there when im bored. Theres probably other sites where more interesting topics are discussed but who the fuck has time for that. Its good how all this stuff is all on one mega site we like to call T-Nation (or TMUSCLE or w/e).

I think it should be mandatory that users are registered for a minimum of 6 months before they are allowed to post.

I guarantee that troll rates would plummet if this were true.

That still wouldn’t get rid of Headhunter…

This site has been the best free education of my life, and was a total turning point for me in terms of training lifestyle. Sure, some shit is always gonna find its way through, but that doesn’t take away from the value you can find here. I don’t post much, but have been reading here for years. I appreciate its offerings and take it with a grain of salt. Learn more, lift better, be discriminating.

Probably one of the biggest reasons I am a regular to this site is that I think of Christian Thibaudeau as such an interesting and trustworthy guy, passionate about training and innovative but still old school. Love his work, both here on T-Nation and in his books.

I also love seeing the EliteFTS guys on here. Wendler has been pretty generous with his time over on the 5/3/1 boards, and I’ve learned a ton from his advice there.

All the best for the next decade, train hard and live hard.

The great thing about the T-Cell is even if there are different philosophies on training/nutrition/recovery/etc., they’re all discussed in a civilized, no BS manner. The Bodybuilding subforum, on the other hand…

In my 5 year stint here, I’ve noticed that the more I visit this site, the more dedicated I am to training and nutrition. That alone makes this site great.

And Re: the quality of recent authors/articles, I actually think things are improving. Bret Contreras and Nick Tumminello are two examples of “new” authors whose articles I’ve found interesting.

Lastly, I also agree that this site is generally too NSFW. If we had the option to turn off ALL pictures (avatars, user submitted photos, and photos from articles), that’d be great. It’s pretty difficult to come on here in class when there are kids sitting right behind me. At home, it’s a different story.

If I were your employer, I would be just as upset about you using paid time to read a sanitized T-Nation as I would one with lots of flesh. Your point is well taken, however. I would have said that I like to read T-Nation while traveling (which is true), and that I cannot do so in public spaces (like the airport or a coffee shop) because of the chance that something not rated G will pop up. But the solution is easy–I just wait to visit T-Nation when I’m not in public. To be honest, I feel awkward reading my favorite BB mag in public as well, so I don’t. Just sayin’.

I turn off images when I surf at work.

I also agree with the idea of removing the soft porn avatars. This is another area where the site has let itself down. I’m all for looking at beautiful women however I think this should have its own forum section.

Prof X, I don’t have any problem with you and nor should I as I have never met you. You train your butt off and have the results to show for it. My point was that when new members see you arguing with people all the time they decide to follow the same path and as a result every thread turns to shit.

I agree with the idea that you are not allowed to post for the first six months. While this would not eradicate all the problems regarding trolls it would certainly help. It would stop people creating another profile for the sole purpose of ruining threads.

Wait, so it is my fault how everyone else responds? This thread: Forums - T Nation - The World's Trusted Community for Elite Fitness
Turned to shit because people not even into bodybuilding along with weak fuckers with bad genetics for this jumped into the thread and tried to tell the rest of us how to train and what we could or could not accomplish.

Hell, trextacy made a post stating that 1lbs a month is a limit as far as gains implying that anyone making more gains than that is on steroids…yet that is MY fault?

If people NOT into bodybuilding and dummies who think no one can get big stayed the hell out of that forum, there would be far fewer threads with discussions like this in the first place.

Yet you ignore them. Why is that?

This post from you is one hell of a backtrack from that crap on the first page.
