This is my safe place! None can flame me here.
Dear God…
Honestly, they’ve got some good tunes! Guy’s voice is awesome.
More, or less than you like Nickelback?
haha, I hate Nickelback. Hootie are way better.
And shaddap you assholes! I’m not saying they’re like my favourite band or anything, but they’ve a few tunes I can get down to.
No worries! I love Hootie too!
My son is autistic and wouldn’t let me turn any kind of music on until Hootie released this song and he loved it! Thank God for Darius Rucker!
Let Her Cry isn’t bad either ![]()
I don’t believe this.
Hootie is the gateway drug. Then comes Creed. Nickleback always inevitably follows.
He’s got a great voice. That song (Wagon Wheel) is actually a cover–was first recorded by Old Crow Medicine Show (in the early aughts, I believe). Was a much bigger hit for Rucker, though.
I’m prerty sure Dylan wrote it originally and OCMS made it popular.
For sure, Dylan was involved. I think he co-wrote it with one of the guys in OCMS. He didn’t record it that I’m aware of, though.
And really, it was the Greeks who invented tragedy, and they were just stealing from the apes, who developed the notion of communicating with sounds and hand gestures.
Which was really just copying Cthulhu.
The Old Crow version of the song was VERY popular in my hometown. Played at parties, around the campfires, in the country bars, etc. Darius Rucker released his version and most (including myself) did not like it. Since its release that’s the only version that I have heard, and it has definitely grown on me.
Darius was actually on the radio saying that he heard it for the first time at his son’s talent show and really liked it so he decided to cover it. I guess I had assumed the original was much more popular than it actually was.
Ignore the heathens who claim they don’t. They’re like modern contrarian kids who try to be trendy by dissing on hipsters. Plus, just because mainstream radio loved Hootie in the mid-90s doesn’t mean his music was bad. Just the opposite, in fact.
And he only wants to be with you…
It’s Friday, I’m 3.5 hours into my 8 hour work day and I am completely checked out, I am caught up on all my paperwork/shit and have decided that my productivity is going to be resting between a 0 and a 1 for the remainder of the day (with a moderate chance of snacks). Cheers to an upcoming, much needed, long weekend.
Only Hootie? What about the Blowfish?! And who was Hootie anyway?
Good point; I presume Hootie is Darius and, as the lead singer, he was speaking for the entire band but, due to lyrical sensibilities, sang in the first person. “We only want to be with you” or “They only want to be with you” sound a little clunky and, frankly, a little creepy ![]()
Actually, the name refers to a couple of friends of the band. One guy wore glasses that made him look like an owl (hence his nickname, Hootie), whereas the other had really puffy cheeks (and thus his nickname, Blowfish).
So Hootie and The Blowfish were not the actual guys playing the songs? I’ve been lied to for 2 decades!
I knew it was a cover, but his version saved me! I can play the radio again!!!
