The Flame-Free Confession Thread

Well, Mercury is in retrograde.

Just saying.

I’ve no concept of how strong (or not) the average populace is and at this point I’m afraid to ask.

I’ve this weird belief/thought that 80% of the male population (who’re in their early 20s) in the gym can easily bench 2 plates.

I’d say I agree. Most of them I see at my gym, are more or less already benching 185 or 200.

I’d even go further and say most chicks are capable of 185.

Dudes=225

Girls=185

Guys benching 225lbs yes. Girls? No way are most at gyms capable of 185 lbs.

Not very

225 bench is a minimum mark for male strength. Not weak, but not strong either.

For guys that weigh 180+ that is.

Gals: not sure but I would thing 165ish is strong. 135 seems more comparable to the guys 225. Even typing that out seems too high but I see more 14-18 year old females not the 20+ crowd.

I’d like to believe most are. Do they care to? Probably not.

I trained dozens of female clients back in my PT days, and none of them were anywhere near 185

I still remember being in my old college gym, weighing 150 lbs, and watching the “big guys” (it’s all relative!) throw “two plates a side!” up on the flat bench. That was my goal those first few months. It seemed like sooooo much weight!

(I’m imagining myself as a pre-super soldier serum Steve Rogers here -lol)

:joy::joy::joy:. If a guy weights140-160 throws up 225-265 I’m very impressed. In my mind that is more impressive than. 360lb monster throwing 500 up.

I’m tired of everyone thinking they’re professional powerlifters. A kid in my gym used a Donnie Thompson fad pad in the squat rack to board press 245 for six doubles. It took him an hour He then proceeded to change his shoes and military press 155 for 3. He is not alone. I might buy a house for the sole purpose of having a squat rack to myself. Well, maybe also for keeping myself from a lengthy incarceration after assaulting fellow gym goers.

That’s why I train alone at home. Don’t have to put up with all the bs

I have one of those “as seen on tv” folding ladders with the spring loaded push buttons that let it change from an extension ladder to a step ladder. Well I managed to kick it out right into my shin. Have an egg sized bump on it… fairly certain nothing is broken.

Stupid always hurts.

Would even 60% of males ever train the bench or do any half serious resistance training?

Of those- most would be in a commercial gym where a two plate bench is rare.

Id say its very common in a gym dedicated to stremgth but what? 0.001% of the male population is there?

I did say it’s a weird thought. Like I know it’s not statistically possible but my mind just refuses to believe it.

I’m doing my best, okay? Strict overhead is hard…

It’s just the fashion at the moment. Everybody wants to be strong. I see that as a good thing, but the deadlift and squat dogma in particular is becoming vexing.

I have issues with people bringing a Donnie Thompson Fat Pad bench into a commercial gym and using it in the squat rack because the gym benches supposedly suck. Said “powerlifter” has a 315 max at around 180lbs. Needless to say, at the same time, a 50 year old man is doing paused reps with 455 on the gym’s standard benches. These kids have zero gym etiquette and fret over things like the squat shoes, video taping lifts, supplements, and all kinds of other shit other that doesn’t matter. They have no concept of looking like a poser.

I have asked folks to explain the benefits of the fat pad, and so far I got nothing. I have an Ironmind bench that is basically steel with 1/8" foam on top, and I feel like it is a good product.
