I am beyond excited for the start of basketball season tomorrow. I’ve been a big football guy my whole life but the past few years my interest has been waning. I think I reached critical mass when I watched like 70% of the games 2 seasons ago and they were hot garbage for the most part.
I just want to clarify here if you’re talking about American Football or Soccer?
Do you have a favourite team? Did you watch 70% of THEIR games or ALL games played in the league?
I’m just curious so I know how hard to flame you in my head.
To be fair, most of the names are references to his favorite bands and their albums/songs. And it’s not super confusing, he just literally took everything and laid it out explicitly in a (failed) attempt to get people to quit asking dumbass questions.
But I will agree that it’s crazy how changing literally one tiny detail of a 531 program can get you flamed on here.
In the restaurant I worked at, I was the full time dish guy for a year or so and a line cook. We got zero tips and stayed about 2-3 hours after close to clean up. Servers acted like we were shit even though I made 9-10 an hour and on average they would make 40-60 an hour. Most I’ve seen (mom and pop and commercial alike) are like this. Not saying better ones don’t exist, but I haven’t seen it here.
One of the high end restaurants in Athens I know of, servers make 40 plus a year. It’s insanity.
American, and yes I do have a favorite, but the 70% estimate was for ALL games. Flame on friend ![]()
Lol, been there done that. I used to cook for a Friendly’s at 16. Worked the night shift on Saturday. Cooked, cleaned, and closed(usually got home at 1:30ish) and then opened Sunday mornings. I’m pretty sure they were breaking about 7 labor laws, lol…
Just take it as an early life lesson.
^Do not turn your back on this man when he’s holding a baseball bat.

I think this link is ok?
Sorry Chris, if it isn’t.
I always wonder what would be better names after seeing all the comments on names. He has 2 beginner programs “for beginners” vs “for a beginner” and people get upset that they sound too similar, but then people get upset when one program is called Coffinworm and another is called God is a Beast.
And then people demand new books and then get upset that he releases them.
There is no winning, so you might as well just do what you like.
If he hadn’t started the article off by stating the invention of the hot-dog was a good thing it may have been more convincing ![]()
Hasn’t Jim himself changed about every variable of the program?
TM at 90%, 85% and even lower, he has high frequency plans, once a week type stuff, no accessory, body building accessory, etc, Deload every 6 weeks/3 weeks, etc…
There are certain principles he has but in terms of programming he has put out 4 books worth “changing the program”
Do the main lift with 531 then so whatever the hell you want after
I really liked Ian King’s “Get Buffed”.
Very straight forward, no bs.
I would say it has evolved. Similar to what happened with Westside, Sheiko, DoggCrapp, HIT, etc. Stuff works, and then different stuff works more better.
And then the old stuff starts working again.
thats one thing you can count on, old stuff always works again
It never stopped working. That’s the thing. People seem to think the release of new information somehow makes all the old stuff that was released not work. It was clearly working; that was why we followed in the first place.
Agreed. I still use most of the templates out of 2nd ed.
My biggest issue with Jim’s books is that he needs a better editor. I have 531 2nd ed, beyond and forever and, to me at least, all suffer the same problem. Jim knows his training, but he needs a good editor to help collect and organize his thoughts. It would help avoid soooo much confusion. Though to be fair, he would still be flooded with dumb questions.
I mean, how does Forever not include at least a table of contents!?! The only way to find a template you like is to physically bookmark it. How hard would it have been to have someone go through and compile a table for which templates are leaders/anchors, 2/3/4 wks, full body, etc and stick it at the back? That’s one person for one, two days at most.
Otherwise, love 531 and the versatility.
More better won’t cut it anymore. We must have mostest bestest or die trying! That’s the “relentless” part of the motto.
A great big x2 on this.
An evil trick to make you read the book?
