By chance came across a Very old interview of Jim Wendlers … I would say this quote from it sums up my views regarding the internet along with probably a few others.
Also, the age of the weight room and the passing of knowledge have all but gone. Now it has been relegated to the pussies on the internet. There aren’t gyms that a kid can go into and learn the ropes. These are now in garages, in warehouses, basements and tool sheds. So even if a kid doesn’t know what he wants to do, he won’t ever be given a chance to find out. At least in the 70’s and 80’s there were places a kid could go to learn about training. Now the only people that they can learn from are a bunch of needledick pusses that operate a keyboard. At least back then, you could size up your teacher.
I went after work today to put in some HIIT on the stationary bike, after one hard sprint my legs were so pumped and sore I had to dial it back to almost the lowest level on the bike and just try and keep some sense of dignity for the next 17 minutes. This is what reintroducing from the floor deads after 8 years does to you (that was Tuesday morning). Squats are coming back after a two month hiatus on Saturday morning…god help me.
I*** IMO *** he kind of lost it when the site started attracting people who were actually experienced, educated or just accomplished.
Think how much disrespect he constantly showed to Brick just voicing his own opinions,… (of course now in addition to being an RD with multiple degrees in sports nutrition he’s also a pro natural bodybuilder).
Consider how much water his “estimate” that he’d be onstage at 5’10 weighing over 230 lbs would carry now that we have Arash on the forum stepping onstage at 5’10 and 210 lbs (and placing top 5 in multiple Olympias)… see where this is going -lol
Once people who had credibility disagreed and pointed out any flawed thinking he did nothing but cause problems, derailing Typically friendly forums. He got banned (I assume) for essentially ruining the site. Hell, he even got banned from another site (Rx) just a month later for trying to constantly stirr up shit there too.
I I think he and I were both guilty of goading each other in like kids but he was out of touch on what’s possible with muscle growth and he was so damn condescending with some people.
What’s frustrating is the guy had a lot of potential and could’ve had even more muscle! He would get pissed at me but I several times tried to motivate him and say, “I think with all you put into this you should do a show or finally diet down!” He would then shrug it off by saying bodybuilding doesn’t pay. Gee, what hobby does?
Let’s assume he really is a dentist, he probably had a full work week, and he was a big dude so training was likely a time intensive hobby.
Shooting the shit and getting into arguments with 23 year olds online seems less and less fun as you get older.
Granted he was confrontational and would never just let an argument end… but I could see a 35-40 year old dude just saying “I don’t need this in my life anymore”
Banned from RX within a month of posting regularly there.
( for the record, that was the site that every time he would complain about people on this one not knowing what they were doing I would tell him to go to. Obviously it didn’t take very long for him to stick out like a sore trouble causing thumb )
I lurked for a long time. I would check the beginner section just to watch the professor tear up every 135lb 16yo kid who cared about abs. “You need to eat, go get a cheeseburger on your way to the gym!”
I would not say he was full of shit…But he was full of himself. Found it hard for me to respect his advice when he had never step foot on a actual stage . i think what really hurt him is when he was part of a video on T nation and he was having trouble doing 275 on the Bench. I thought it was funny at one point he tried branching into the PL forums and they ran him the hell out because he couldnt back his shit up.
lol yeah, in the age of video cameras, when all you can put up is a never ending series of photos, always standing by yourself, usually wearing a shirt, obviously filtered, and then one day you suddenly find yourself on publicly available video unable to live up to the hype you created about yourself over years… well, I imgine it’s probably a very humbling experience (or in this case, possibly a disturbing one).
No lie, there was this kid I went to high school with who said he could bench 300 because of the band tension on his bowflex. Later in the year, I heard he got stapled by 165 in weight training. THIS JUST IN BAND TENSION ACTUALLY GOES AWAY AFTER YEARS OF USE!!! MORE ON THIS LATER
