Two more work days for me and I head to Thailand for 3 weeks. I left for Christmas break on the 19th and only had “4 work” days between then and when I leave next Tuesday. It’s been incredibly hard not to check out.

5 years since my last vacation, and before that, another 5 years. Kids, and the Marines. I just want to be on a beach, every day.

Also a confession: The guy who does my job on day shift is a miserable old fuck who has something nasty to say about everyone but will never own up to a mistake he’s made. Usually I don’t say anything, but he made a comment about me ‘finally cleaning’ while I was preparing to shut down for the Xmas break, and I blew up at him, since I always clean up after his lazy ass. The programmer who works within eyeshot of my machines asked me why I took the bait this time, that I’m usually good at just walking away.
So I took the high road again…
and walked away…
then walked back as he was leaving…
and snapped a picture of him on my phone…
then photoshopped his head on top of gay porn and put it as the background to his work computer, left it there over the break for his work buddies to find when everyone came back.
It was a moment of weakness, but it yielded a thing of beauty. I still have the photo of the work computer but I don’t know if it’d violate forum rules.

The Mrs thinks taking kids who are too young to realize what’s going on is a waste of effort. They don’t enjoy it and it kind of ruins it for us because we have to keep them from killing themselves.
We’re getting closer though. We might go somewhere this year.

I would agree with her. It’s why we haven’t gone anywhere with them yet. My brother wants us to take them to Disneyland and I have to explain that the oldest is still a year away from the earliest memories he’ll have in his life. Not worth the money. That, and with a stay at home wife and 2 kids I’m usually pretty low on funds. I want my job to start direct depositing my paychecks to the housing authority and my bill companies so I don’t get teased with a fat paycheck that I have to give away immediately.

I’ll say that, with cameras everywhere these days, kids remember a helluva lot more than we did as kids. It’s super easy to pull out your phone, show them a photo or video of them on the merry-go-round at Disney and go “remember that?”

It would be a bit of a drive, but A Day Out With Thomas in Strasburg PA. was a good time for us.
Did the train rides, rode a horse and carriage, played a bunch of big kid games at another near by park.
A lot of fun geared toward kids and not too painful.

Could always hit it on the drive up, we go from VA to NY to visit family at least twice a year. Looks as if it’s happening next in June. Thanks for the suggestion!

Me too. I’m thinking of opening a beach gym rental type thing. Has a rental unit for 8-10 people, small apartment for my wife and I to sleep, bathe, and eat in, and a powerlifting gym. On the beach or within walking distance. For retirement…

Out of morbid curiosity I watched the documentaries Rocco and Liberated on Netflix, I felt like I needed to cleanse my soul, and if my next child is a daughter, I will be needing to do some serious examination on a potential partner of hers.
