Me too! I love to create things. Paper, wood, paint, rebar and light, you name it. My hands and forearms are trashed from the last rebar project for the season, but it was worth it!

Guitar/music/recording used to be one of my favorite pass time before I started lifting. Used to play for hours every night and weekend. Kind of stopped playing the past year or so due to work/life and concentrating on lifting.

I was initially kind of pissed I sort of had to force myself down to 3 days a week of 531 because I really enjoy lifting, but I picked up the guitar and recorded for a few hours the other night. I was pretty rusty at first… but it’s like riding a bike. Shredding in no time!

I did kinda the same thing, I played 1-2 hours every day from 13 to 18, then progressively less as I got more busy. Got a job that made me travel 45% of my time and that killed the last band I was in, which sucked because we were friends that happened to be in a band together. Changed jobs about 2 years ago, got training in order and have been playing progressively more since.

Best thing I ever did was buy a loop pedal for practice. Gonna try and do some solo acoustic gigs for awhile and then maybe try and find people to jam with.

Never used a loop pedal, but then again I don’t think I’m good enough to play solo live haha. Used to have a band from 15 years old to 23/24. We played some heavy and dissonant stuff so people didn’t really care how clean it was. Miss the days of playing out. I just use my desktop and some production software now, it makes it much easier for me to get good takes when I really take my time. Not really able to play as loud as I’d like at home though, so an old pod x3 bean and some headphones are all I have now.

I actually still have a marshall dsl100, oversized Mesa 4x12 and a black star ht100 that are collecting dust… might hook them up and see if anything still works. It’s been years since I’ve plugged any of it in.

Exact. Same. Boat. I loved playing out, thought it was super cathartic to scream my heart out to strangers once in awhile. I finally broke down and bought a solid state Orange Crush 20 because I felt like I was castrating my Peavey ValveKing by never cranking the volume above 2.

Big thing now is that I wanna start writing again - the last song I wrote was like 10 years ago. I’d feel like a poser writing dark songs and every time I try to write something happy/upbeat it sounds like it belongs on an episode of Mr. Rogers…

Ha! I hear you. I still wrote some tech death stuff for a while after the band was over but I agree, it’s hard to write aggressive music when there is no reason to feel that way. Towards the end I was writing some prog/post rock stuff. It’s pretty easy to take a song in any direction you want… a lot more stream of consciousness than straightforward songwriting, plus you can use your guitar in ways you never would have in a typical metal or rock context. Reverb and delay/modulation all over the place. And my favorite part- less is more, you don’t have to be a guitar God to write good songs, to me it’s a lot more about feel.

I’ve watched a few YouTube videos on the new orange amps, they look and sound awesome. Might have to look into them a little deeper.

I definitely wrote because I could make my mediocre-at-best chops sound better by sticking to my strengths. Haha I think I’ll probably go more southern rock/grunge/classic rock if I do start writing again though. Always been drawn to that style and sort of have the voice for it.

I happened to find mine used, they just took it in that day and I got it for $60. New they cost $190 so not sure how the hell that works out but I’ll take it. Went in to get a different amp but tried the Orange on a whim and my mind was made up within 3 notes. The little thing sounds incredible.

This has Neil Young written all over it, two thumbs up. If you ever record anything please make sure to post it up and tag me, I’d love to hear something. I’m always looking for new music.

When I first started my log I’d post my “album of the session”. Kind of difficult to keep up with that though haha. There is only a finite amount of good lifting music, and I’ll admit I started to do repeats once I found new bands that I liked. Some stuff just gets me really amped up.

Since I haven’t posted my flame free confession yet, I’ll stay with the spirit of the thread.
1).As much as I want to get better at deadlifts, I get anxious when I do them. Like a first date with a girl or something.

2). I didn’t really try my hardest on squatting because I absolutely hated them the first six months or so. Now I love them.

3). I try to progress too quickly. There have been multiple times it’s bit me in the ass, and I still do it.

You got what you wanted lol. What made you say there was a reality check?

  1. hes not as smart as he thinks…
  2. being humbled because he is around one of the top Junior female powerlifter in the world

I’m drunk and just skim read the last 10 days of this thread. All I’ve picked up is that a needle in the ass is no worse than an elbow and @T3hPwnisher is Ripptoe.

Saw an old picture of mighty Mike Quinn today and it made me want to start training arms again !!

I used to chew, it’s fucking nasty though. Somebody casually left a Disgusting spit bottle in our work truck and thinking how gross that habit is makes me never want another pinch. Stay strong bro! You just gotta convince yourself of how disgusting and pointless tobacco really is.

I confess that I found giving up smoking incredibly easy. I just stopped and that was that.

I wish I could have the same willpower when it comes to dietary choices and training.

Life hack: start smoking again for the appetite suppressant and then quit again when you reach your physique goals.

I have to more than “like” this, it’s one of the funniest posts I’ve read in a long while.

Me too. I read “life hack” as a double entendre.
