Not sure if it would be appropriate for me to tell a obvious beginner that they don’t know Jack shit.
Do you think there’s much chance they’ll listen?
The less someone knows, the more they think they do
Dunning kreuger effect
Not a chance in HeII !
Pretty much. The thing now of days you have guys who have read a ton and have watched allot of videos. But have zero practical experience.
Wouldn’t waste your time then. You can’t cure stupid
You can, but it ends you up in prison unless you’re really good at cleaning.
I think cortisol is the new CNS. I used to think CNS fatigue was a common thing and that everything caused CNS fatigue. I know now that that’s bullshit. But now, it seems like every few days somebody shows up and is like “stress, cortisol, sleep, cortisol, neurotransmitters, cortisol!”
Yes, most of us deal with stress on a daily basis. And being tired. And hurting. Those are the days that show me what I’m made of.
We trained every day in the Marines - some of us 2-3x a day if we chose to go to the gym after morning and afternoon PT. I didn’t hear anyone complain about their cortisol at 0430 before a 20 mile hike with 70 lbs of gear on despite us beating ourselves into the dirt for weeks on end beforehand. You just did it.
Just do it.
I therefore challenge you to spend time in Texas. It’s diverse and segregated at the same time. I swear.
So I tried knee wraps on squats for the first time last night. Definitely did not like.
Didn’t wrap them particularly tightly, and my knees felt ‘secure’ until I actually squatted down and it felt like they were going to shear my leg off at the knee.
I can imagine them adding a bit to my 1RM. I cannot imagine training with them regularly. Think I’ll stick to naked knees division for now.
I am afraid I don’t understand the challenge.
Cortisol is the scapegoat. I’ve detailed how stress affects the body and cortisol is part of it. It’s an effect, though - not a cause.
The good news is that you don’t have to do HIIT or CrossFit to help. Low intensity walks can decrease circulating cortisol.
But the problem is stress, poor nutrition, and poor sleep. We have control over all of those. Food is the easy one. Stress and sleep can be addressed, too, but most people ignore them.
Nailed it. It’s real and has a tangible effect of course, but it’s a scapegoat for a lot of people.
Is this a Halloween themed ghost tour?
No. It’s the result of a phone keyboard. ![]()
I think the concept of constructive criticism is lost on some who come on this site.
From which direction? The people giving it not being constructive (just shitting on) or the people receiving it only taking it as criticism?
Confession: I’m sitting here paralyzed by indecision. My first appointment cancelled today, so I don’t have to be to work until 10. Good, I thought, I’ll do a leisurely workout. But we’re in the middle of a storm here, and I guess there are a lot of power outages and more expected. When I checked there were 200-something houses without power in my town (of only a few hundred). When I spoke to my husband he said “better hurry up and take your shower, just in case!”
And now I can’t decide what to do.
Both, surely?
