I think my biggest issue was I adjusted my grip AFTER unracked the bar. With OHP I do it before I racking.
No joke, my wife’s best childhood friend was benching alone in his garage when he was 18 and had 135 on the bar, dropped it on his throat and died before anyone could find him. Glad you’re okay dude.
Dude it was scary. The whole reason she was down there was because my work sets are heavy and I knew the last set was gonna go to failure or almost, plus the hand out was awesome.
On the last workset I Laid down and told her how scary it would be if my measly 235lbs dropped, I’d probably die. Next time I unracked the bar (luckily with lower weight) I dropped it.
She was quick to grab it so I don’t know if I’d have been able to get it, but I’m pretty sure I could have with it being so light. Either way it was a massive wake up call. Things can go bad even doing dumb things like lifting.
Put in my two weeks notice at my job today. The plant manager was pretty unhappy, but I was firm and maintained that it was a family decision (which it is), so I’m a short timer. 2 weeks and I’m gone! Definitely super happy about that.
I assume you have another opportunity to explore @flappinit
Oh, I did a background check and drug screen for my new job last week, they called me today to tell me everything was good and I waited til then to put in my notice. Already had the job lined up but made sure to wait until I had the actual offer in writing to put my notice in. I don’t burn bridges and I don’t ever leave somewhere until I have secured guaranteed employment. I’ll be making the same amount of money without being a supervisor. I’ve been in managerial roles for 6 years and I need some time where the perception of my efficacy as a worker isn’t defined by the lazy fucks I’m meant to be supervising. Will be a floater in my plant, just hopping in where the bottlenecks are with production. Working Monday-Tuesday-Saturday-Sunday one week and Wednesday-Thursday-Friday the next. 3 days one week and 4 days the next, alternating. Wife’s job will work around my schedule and we can put the kids on her insurance.
Sounds like a good plan. Sometimes a break from unnecessary stress can be a great first step into something bigger and better on the future. Hope it goes well.
I have spent plenty of time with the “work yourself to death and everything else will fall into place” mentality. I am just now starting to understand the importance of mental health and how it directly ties into physical health.
It just surprises me because he seems like a pretty realistic guy.
I was doing ghr’s with a medicine ball and tried to slam the ball off the floor to catch it on the way up. Ended up point blank blasting myself in the face with a 12 lb. ball.
Doing pull ups at explosive speed in my buds basement, concussed myself off of a floor joist.
Buddy: “You sure that’s a good…” Boom, crumple.
Me: “woblebleaburb…”
I’m glad I’m not the only one with embarrassing gym stories
sounds like it would be worthy of its own thread
Ur in it
Doesn’t your rack have safety’s? Use them, that’s what they are there for. Not even a spotter can grab a heavy bar quick enough.
A guy I know lost a 300+ bench last year. Just jumped out of his hands, it happens. What saved him? The safety’s. Bruised his chest up but he was fine. And, if you lift by yourself leave the collars off so you can dump the plates if you have to.
X2! Golden advice from one of our smartest members. Pay attention!
Pretty sure being the LEAST smartest member here is how I know this🤣
We literally have members who:
Think rapists are misunderstood
Think saying negative things about pistol squats is worse than saying rapists are misunderstood
Think they should take steroids while weighing 140 lbs as an adult male
etc…
You are so, so, so far away from the top 20 dumbest people on this site. Everybody here respects you and your work ethic. Don’t sell yourself short.
Wholesome
Thank you for the kind words.
I’ll bet lots of people who are stronger and more accomplished than I am have the same things to say about you. You’re welcome, of course, but you deserve all of the praise you get.
I Second that @ChickenLittle . You have my respect and more importantly, I like you.
