The Flame-Free Confession Thread II

I think the key word being professional YouTuber. Many of them would be hard press finding high end employment in the field. Like say a college level strength coach.

Oh hell yeah. It’s why I always ask “who have they coached” when it comes to internet Mr. Wonderfuls. Always get crickets.

I find myself tinkering with the idea of sharing training info online. I realize that the info is already out there and very easy to find, but people still ask me basic questions.

I think the reason we see so much online coaching/training is because people want to be soon fed the into from someone they know and like.

There’s no reason for me to regurgitate basic training information but I’m still convinced people need it.

People see that I’m thinner now than last year and ask “What’d you do?” and they’re implying that I ran some fad diet. I say “Nothing. I just ate less.”

It’s just a reminder that they won’t seek out this information on their own.

I have a different take on it. I don’t think it’s an information issue, it’s an application issue. When folks fail to apply knowledge they either look for different information or the same information explained in a different way (preferably a way that doesn’t make them feel like a failure)

If the person doing the selling is charasmatic and is able to hit the right points then a new guru is discovered.

BTW, have the Starting Strength converts who have followed the program for 2 weeks - but know anything that isn’t SS is wrong - all dried up? I haven’t heard from one in a while.

It’s such a weird human thing. If I give someone a book and say “This has all the answers: read it”, I’m an a-hole. If I sit down with that person and tell them WORD FOR WORD what is in that book, I’m a good friend.

I have done the same thing and the results are the same. The answer is normally just themselves. As @Chris_Colucci I believe said YouTube is where fitness goes to die.

Youtube… or Instagram…

It’s not all shit. But allot of times i find the bad outweighs the good.

I consider that a red flag . If someone was truly motivated they would read the book.

Did you have a split in the middle?

There’s that. And like snacking/graze eating, it’s the passive consumption of something related to, but not really the genuine article.

The analogy I’d make is that YouTube is to fitness as a bag of doritos is to an ear of corn.

Thrall is an SSC.

He’s not affiliated with SS now.

Hey, at least he’s not trying to sell something straight to your face in each video he puts out

not really a confession, but tomorrow will be my first day of university and I’m pretty excited about it. Hopefully it’ll be a positive experience.

I would have to read it in the style of Jon. It would be only fair.
