The Fitness New Age

The people that get on my nerves are the ones who are the self appointed straighteners of the record (the bald guy who’s vids show up a lot here lately comes to mind). That is all he seems to do. I don’t know how successful he may be, but it just seems like an unnecessary case of sour grapes to produce an endless amount of videos calling everybody else liars and cheats while claiming to have the real lowdown on how to get strong. Other S&C coaches that actually are doing well don’t do that. They’re too busy helping people win. They also have the smarts to exercise some discretion instead of popping off like a giddy little 9 year old tattle tale.

Is it really good for the serious lifter? It’s probably a moot point for anybody who is really dedicated. They’re going to do what they do because that is who they are, disenchanted youtube trainers be damned.

I also hate how the people will then hold themselves up as what is attainable naturally or someone that is similar to them and proclaim, this is the body that hard work naturally gets you. They fail to consider that they have shit genetics and their natural looks like shit compared to someone with a better natural structures natural. But in their minds, anyone that looks better them, especially if they look better than them and don’t have to work as hard, has to be on drugs.

Well to be fair, YouTube is about money. You don’t have to be correct to make money. Just like McDonald’s doesn’t have to feed your “real” food to make money. At that point, just like any corporation, you will go to great lengths just to increase the profits, even if it does result in a lower quality content. Even though I don’t agree with it, I can’t blame someone for finding a way that works for them, to make money. [/quote]

I wasn’t trying to impugn youtube. Just the people who have no real chops and try to get theirs by busting other peoples.

This is exactly what I think. I don’t think the guys posting on youtube etc probably even lift at all, I think the majority are sad jealous cowards who, without the internet, wouldn’t have the courage to say what they say.

The Hodge twins, as well as being hilarious, are a real inspiration to me as a guy getting into lifting in his 30s. If I have their physique when I’m 38 I’ll be over the moon.

Naysayers and arseholes are everywhere, especially on the internet.

The really sad part is when someone like that calls someone like me on it. I’ve never been outstanding aesthetically or due to sheer size and I’ve gotten that kind of feedback irl.

It still boggles my mind that people think they are funny.

This would be a prime example what I mean…personal attacks despite whatever the deeper discussion is about or the goal of more progress.

I can’t “strong arm mass culture”. I don’t have the power to control anyone else’s mind. All I can do is what I enjoy doing…which is writing and discussing bodybuilding.

If you or anyone else listens, all I can do is appreciate that and move on.

If no one cared about the topic, no one would respond.

End point, believe me, I am working in my own life to improve myself and others.

That is ALL that matters.

I have too. And I am not even close to what anyone would consider big. I literally had a dude in the gym ask me what kind of gear I was running and when I told him none, he rolled his eyes and was like “Yeah, like people can get striations on their muscles like that naturally. Whatever bro”. Dude was so fucking clueless as to understand that those show up more from leanness than muscle size.

ya some of the shit they say is just dumb though, and that has nothing to do with being an arsehole or a naysayer.

“IF YOU DEADLIFT YOU WILL SNAP YO SHIT UP, SNAP CITY BITCH”… no, you won’t.

The first video I saw I thought they were idiots (and for a while I even thought that Elliot Hulse was one of the Hodge twins gone solo… shame on me), but then I saw one they did about porn addiction that cracked me up and I was hooked.

All of their catch phrases get old and predictable after a while but their banter with each other cracks me up.

I never have been a big fan of the Hodge twins, or most of the internet lifting guys. I do like Hulse though.

He has some good lifting tips but this kinda made me scratch my head:

ignore the rude azn, that’s not the point.

They said that? To be honest I tend to watch their advice channel the most. Telling young kids the best way to bust all kinds of nuts and what not.

They seem to be reasonable savvy about trends in the fitness business, and humble when it comes to giving advice, admitting that they’re just average Joes who like to train, etc. I appreciate how they just tell it like they see it without coming across as having massive egos.

I don’t watch the Hodge Twins much at all. I do watch Kali from time to time because he gets it…this is about drive…which ONLY comes if you enjoy the shit out of lifting weights and making progress.

It doesn’t matter if he isn’t speaking like a PhD in Nutrition. That’s why none of them look like him.

CT Fletcher gets it. This is about having a mindset as if you are going to war.

That isn’t “elitism”. It is straight up how you get swole.
