Winner winner chicken dinner. So happy. I had it in my mind the last couple days, that I already did 455. I was so confident that I could do it. Before I was going for the attempt, I realized that 10 lbs more and it would be a 2x bodyweight squat. Why not at this point. Glad I did.

Weight … really need to work on this … more seriously. About six weeks until summer. I’m going to hit some high reps, short rest next cycle, a lot more cardio, and careful eating (especially at night).

SA-weeet! This training cycle has been going great. Feel like I’m in an awesome groove. The first 315 went up fast. Planned on going for 335, but decided to go for 345. Plus, it gives me a 1.5x body weight press. Still need to focus on my form. I have another 20-30lbs in me with the right coaching. I normally do a lot of dips on bench day, but my elbow is still sore from the barbell curls.

Thanks

I didn’t plan on it, just sort of happened that way. A 2.5 body weight pull would be nice Friday. That would be 575, 30lbs more than I am planning. Who knows?

That sucks balls. Had a super long post typed and it got lost

bring us that super long post!

looking good in here man! i have to say, you’re basically the main motivation in me starting some direct arm work. i want to curl the 135 for reps like you, and then keep going, 155, 185, 200+ FTW! youve also just inspired me to hit a 315 bench again soon. it’s been sooooooooo damn long since ive had 315+ on the bar, with 285x6 last week, im pretty sure i have gotten my strength back to at least single 315. who knows, maybe i’ll work hard another month or so and try and get some reps with it.

anyway, good fucking work in here man! i really think youve made/continue to make awesome progress, some of the most impressive on this site in my opinion. the only reason your name isnt thrown around all over this site is because youre not involved in every damn thread here- which is a good thing!

keep it up man.

also a question on your deads- do you think the use of straps had much of an impact? you mentioned you were able to focus on pulling, but was the difference dramatic? ive been thinking of strapping up lately, as ive realized that while i think i’ll do a comp eventually, it’s just not a current goal, so it doesnt really matter to me that i couldnt use straps on a platform at this time. thanks

Thanks, I really appreciate this.

There is no reason [other than practice] that you should not be able to get 315+. Just a matter of being in the right mental state not being intimidated by the weight itself.

Again, thank you. I try to keep my nose out of things and try not to be a douchebag to people. Yes, it is the Internet. No, you don’t have to treat people poorly.

I have used them because everything I have been doing is high reps. Plus I have small hands. Not dainty, just small  If you have the grip strength AND stamina, then by all means don’t use them. I wanted to concentrate on getting my back stronger without having to worry about my grip. Another reason is that I know/knew that I would not being doing a competition anytime soon. Just don’t have the cash for it.

We’ll see how this works out Friday. I’m going for 525 or 545.

30 min crossramp

complex
10x5x115

A1 front squat
A2 clean
A3 push press
A4 pull-up
60 sec rest

I was inspired by CT’s Superhero complexes, so I decided to give it a try. This was recommended by Synergy93. Wow. I was feeling good the first couple rounds, only taking 30 seconds rest between each. The plan was to do 5 rounds with 115, then five rounds with 135 … ya know, after I warmed up. This got difficult real fast. Cleans and pull-ups seemed to be the most draining because of hanging onto the bar. Front squat was really easy, and almost a break. Too bad it was the first exercise. Total time was around 20 minutes. I’ll probably progress via reps before I try to decrease recovery time. Overall I was really pleased with how I felt.

When I got home, my wife asked what I did. Told her about the crossramp and then complexes. She didn’t believe me. She said, “You’re lying. I can tell you did upper body. Your body is clearly puffy. I don’t like it. I married you, not an ape.” I tried explaining the purpose of a complex, but she wouldn’t have it. She was right though. I did look pretty jacked. Massive upper body pump. Veins popping out in my shoulders that I never saw before. I sure as heck didn’t mind, but her opinion does matter.

I’ve been at at a crossroad this last week. Keep training the way I have been, getting slowly leaner OR going with another program. I’m going to stick with what I’ve been doing because not only is it working, but I know it really well. I just need to increase the conditioning some more, cut back on late night/post-workout eating, and watch the carbs during the week. I should be ok, but I won’t expect stellar results either. I do like the Pulse Fast, Lean Gains approach. But I don’t have the money to get the proper resources. Those are heavily protein relient and that is just not going to happen. If the gas prices go down [more money in my pocket], then possibly a bag of protein powder.

I don’t think I’ve ever posted in your log before, but just from reading the OP and some posts at random intervals throughout the log, you’ve made some fantastic progress man. Keep it up!

I thought about doing that complex again, but not so close to deadlifting. Upper back is tight and sore. I likey.

I don’t think so either, but I appreciate it. The most dramatic is probably the physical change. I have gotten much stronger, but still a long way to go.

Wow.

I’ve been wicked sick all weekend. Didn’t get to go for my deadlift PR like I wanted. That will have to wait for the next training cycle.

Down seven pounds since Friday - 226.6. I really didn’t expect to be that light. Suppose most of it is water weight. Feeling MUCH better today. Cross fingers and I’ll train tonight. Wife woke up sick this morning. It’s an epidemic!!!

Bleh. Felt relatively good going in. Really lacked energy and my normal killer instinct. Everything felt draining. Especially the grind reps - no extra umph. I will say I look much better pumped at this new sickly weight than I did before. Can I sustain this …?
