The Dude's Rippetoe Log

You hit a 405 squat, 315 bench and 450+ DL for the first time in the span of a week? That’s nasty. Great work.

Hey thanks! I do have an ability to go from 0-100. But when I can’t, I take Mini-Thins (gas station caffeine pills). One pill has about 200 mg of caffeine. Seems to help. I guess it would be the much cheaper alternative to a Spike shooter.

Thank you very much sir, and thanks for stopping by!

I had been in diet mode for a good 7 months. Got to September and had an erratic training schedule with lack luster results. Decided that I would bump the Cals up and dedicate October to strength training. I think it paid off

Cycle 11 Summary

I thought I did such a bang up job that I needed to see comparison numbers:

Training Max Prev Max Current Max
SOHP.175…175x4…165x11
SQ…355…365x2…405x3
BP…255…265x2…315x1
DL…395…375x4…455x1

The previous maxes were well over a year ago and at a much heavier bodyweight. I think I’ve made great strides considering how much time off, and reduced Calories from dieting.

Congrats man, those are some impressive numbers. Hard work, persistence, consultancy = Results

What’s your weight at now?

Definitely, thanks! I’m bouncing between 225-230. I started this cycle at 218, but only increased Cals by 2-300/day

Thanks bud! Training has been clicking lately. It’s been one long experiment but it is getting results.

Dude, there should be some photos of u, I want to see how it looks like at the weights u lift, but I cant find them.
BTW, got your photos. U still have belly, maybe we are doomed…

I wouldn’t consider this a stellar workout (maybe my expectations are too high now?) but I did have a rep PR. Bar was flying fast. I could have squeezed out another five, but I also need to walk for the rest of the week.

Everything felt pretty good. Elbow held up, and now being the day after does not hurt AT ALL. So the tennis elbow wrap has def helped.

Nice job on the PR’s.

You were right that our bench strength is pretty close. One thing I noticed is your MP is a fair amount stronger than mine

…maybe that’s my missing link, who knows?

Maybe … that’s always been my strong exercise though. How is your setup? Strength Training, Bodybuilding & Online Supplement Store - T NATION

This was helpful. Changing grip may help. My hands are just inside the outer rings. I tend to use a little more tricep, but it works. I also do a lot of weighted dips.

wave 2, cycle 12

squat

I’m going to drop cleans and add curls on squat day for a while. See if that helps with the tennis elbow. I really haven’t done direct arm work in at least a year, maybe more.

Squats … went really well again. I’m not taking this strong steak for granted. Just keep milking it. I will say that I am much less sore and recover faster than with lower reps. I mean I just deadlifted Sunday. That alone usually takes me out for at least 3-4 days. Anyway, I’m getting stronger and feel great. All that matters.
