The Dark Knight Rises

That shit is textbook Nolen is he writes it correctly…but doing it without Ledger…damn.[/quote]

We shouldn’t write off the Joker so soon. I never thought brokeback mountain could play the part but I proven wrong. Who knows the next person to play him could do an even better job.

Ledger shocked everyone by making that character REAL. I could see someone really acting like that. he got deep inside the head of that character…and short of guys like Johnny Dep and maybe one or two others, few can pull that level of crazy off without sounding cartoonish.

Let’s face it, Jack Nicholson’s portrayal was way too comic book/cartoon to stand the test of time.

I watched Donnie Darko again though and I think if anyone could maybe pull it off, Jake Gyllenhall might be able to but in his own way.

So maybe Brokeback should make a comeback.

I don’t agree that he will only use “realistic” characters.

The scarecrow guy was very unrealistic in the preceding movie.

Bane would be perfect because chemical abuse for personal gain is just as prevalent in real life, be it steroids, adderol, viagra, etc.

Bane could already be a recipient of the X factor myostatin mutation gene and use the chemical assistance to boost it even more. Plus, he is a supergenius. He’ll figure it out.

Man, not only did Ledger shock just about everyone, he put in maybe the best villain performance of all time. It’d be really hard for someone else to fill those shoes. But, if Nolan wanted to go that route I’d trust him. He hasn’t exactly let us down yet. With that, I couldn’t see Depp or Gylenhall in Nolan’s Batman world. Depp has always been too cartoony and I just don’t think Gylenhall fits, at least as the Joker. I remember everyone talking about this in the monster Dark Knight thread from a couple of years ago. Also, as much as I like Jack Nicholson he didn’t play the Joker. He played Jack Nicholson wearing Joker make-up. I’m really interested to see which way this thing goes.

Why no Riddler? They should get Daniel Day Lewis in there.

As Riddler or Black Mask.

I agree, Jake could probably do a great job with it. I trust Nolan will find a good person to play the joker, can’t have batman without the Joker. That’s like Superman without Lex.

I think it was a good performance, but i def. think people are overstating “best performance of all time” due to the fact that he’s dead.

Same thing with people saying Stephen Hawking is a genius(even though he’s unoriginal) just because he’s disabled.

With that logic, I should run for public office but break both my legs first.

I can’t speak for others, but my claiming that Ledger’s Joker was maybe the best movie villain of all time has NOTHING to do with his death. Who’s been better? Hopkins as Lecter? Bardem as the killer in No Country? I’d argue that Ledger was better than both of 'em. He took a text book “comic book” villain and made him very real.

And your post about Bane being realistic and ScareCrow being unrealistic was pretty silly.

I’m going to hang that on the director rather than Jack. I don’t remember much about that movie except for the joker being creepy and hilarious. I think it was just a more cartoony movie in general.

Edit: after watching some youtubes of nicholson as joker I couldn’t find any that screamed great performance.

How was the scarecrow unrealistic, I didn’t just make up that post. Nolan has stated he wants a Batman that could be plausible. A juiced up villain would be the stupidest villain of all time.

Have any of you ever seen Tim Burton films?

I doubt Nolan would cast someone else as the Joker. He claims this next one to be the last and I don’t think he would try and cast someone over Ledger at this point. We might hear about the Joker’s antics but I think that’s about it.

Having Quin would be awesome too but having Quin without Joker is just not right. Maybe we will get a quick appearance of her but nothing more than that.

I’m still pushing for Ivy from Arkham Asylum- I think he could do it reasonably and make it dark. Plus she’d be sexy which is nice.

I can almost guarantee there will be no mention of the joker at all. If you hear anything about the joker in this new movie, it will be that he is locked up “for good” in Arkham. The reason being, you can’t just have a whole movie (TDK) about how Joker pretty much owns the underworld, and has the entire city in a state of emergency, and then in the next movie, just have him slip into some secondary, background story.

The way that TDK ended, he should be in captivity. If he isn’t then the whole of Gotham would be on a high alert, all hands, man hunt until they found him. Also, Joker, especially Nolan’s version, isn’t the type of person to go into hiding, or lay low. He wants to be out there, disrupting society. I really doubt we’ll hear much of anything about Joker, other than “he’s all locked up”.

After reading through here again, I really like the killer croc idea. That is a villain that would be really cool to see Nolan remake. Its kind of a shame that Nolan doesn’t wanna do “cartoony” villains, because I think he could really do something awesome with a lot of them. Bane would be an awesome enemy for Nolan to work with, but I just don’t think it will fit. I think Nolan will go with somebody obscure, that everyone is overlooking, and then make him an extremely memorable character. He did it with Batman Begins, honestly, who would’ve thought that The Scarecrow would be the main villain of any batman movie?

He wasn’t the main villain Ra’s was.

… someone with GIGANTIC, BEAR LIKE HANDS, let me borrow them so I can give this the facepalm it deserves.

^^^ Dude, they’re gonna stay true to the comic. There is NO WAY thay they say the Joker’s “locked up for good”. I imagine at some point in the movie they talk about what he’s doing out there. Shit, they may even recast him though I doubt it. One of my favorite things about Nolan movies is how close he plays things to the chest 'til the movie premiers.

I hope Two Face isn’t dead. Though personally I thought Batman Begins is better than Dark Knight (watched both again last night and forgot how bloody good both of them are), his part was brilliant. Do people think the Penguin/Poison Ivy etc then are too cartoonish for Nolan’s Batman?
