I’m actually in the same boat. I was pretty sure I was the only one.

Disclaimer: TDK is still one of the most incredible pictures of all time. I just happened to personally like BB ever so slightly better.

Oh definitely. I think TDK is one of the best movies of the last 10 years. But BB I prefer. glad to see I’m not the only one though :D
I’m sorry, but I can’t make any sense of any of what you two are saying. Could you please explain with some detail and clarity exactly why it is you liked Batman Begins more than TDK? This isn’t quite registering in my brain.
Erm . . . uh . . . no.

I don’t watch movies with a “critic’s mind.” I don’t go into a movie expecting to walk out with a detailed analysis of character development, storyline, writing, pace, acting, etc. I go by feel. If I walked out and I liked the movie, great. If I walked out and didn’t care for the movie much, no big deal. If I walked out and liked the movie better or less than another movie, cool. I don’t feel the need to question myself as if I’ve done something wrong because I might happen to like one movie better, when most others prefer another. I watch movies to shut down and enjoy myself for a bit. It makes my life a lot more fun.

About the only thing I’ll analyze and discuss with friends and on message boards in some detail is plot (i.e. “What do you think they were trying to convey when this happened . . .;” “Will this have any bearing on the sequel . . .;” etc.).

So if you don’t think it’s possible that someone could like BB better than TDK, well . . . here I am.

EDIT: Since writing this, now you have my brain all churning, so I guess I’ll bite. However, my answer probably still won’t satisfy you, and some of the stuff is so ridiculous you’ll be laughing. But it’s all good. I am who I am. These are by no means in order of importance:

I didn’t like the “multiple vigilante ‘Batman’ wannabes” plot device.
I liked the mansion better than the underground base of operations (though I obviously understand why they couldn’t have the mansion in the second film).
I liked the backstory of him being some “punk kid” trying to find himself better than the “Am I doing the right thing?”
I liked the training scenes (call me a sucker for training montages; I grew up watching too many cheesy martial arts and Rocky movies, I guess).
I liked the overall look and feel of BB better: the rainy street and back alley scenes; Wayne getting in fights in mud pits, stealing and living on the streets a while. It just had a dirtier, grittier feel to it for me.
I liked Katie Holmes better than Maggie Gyllenhall.

So, there you go, some detail.

Legit reasons and the new film looks like a mix of both films so win win.

I too liked Batman Begins a little better than the Dark Knight, although I have nothing bad to say about the latter. I like origin stories and training montages, and seeing a protagonist develop. I also appreciate how they did the villains - saving the Joker for the next movie allowed the first one to focus more on Bruce Wayne and Batman (since the Joker is such an interesting and profound character that he otherwise steals the show from the good guys, as both Nicholson and Ledger did in their respective roles). I personally prefer to see more of the secret identity/the person underneath (I think Superman Returns would have been better if the Clark Kent character was featured a bit more as well).

I have not read many of the comics, so I have not gotten tired of the origin story as DB has, although I can understand that sentiment.

I hope TDKR brings the focus back on Bruce Wayne and Batman again from a psychologoical/character development standpoint to tie up the series. Either way, I trust Christopher Nolan to give us a hell of a film and am totally geeked out for it.

What I don’t get is why the Joker didn’t just shoot him with kryptonite bullets.

problem: solved.

Official Trailer…

Jesus Christ, don’t you think you might have taken me a little TOO literally? I just wanted to know why you thought BB was better than TDK, which you explained with the clarity and detail that I wanted to hear. Thank you. Fuck, relax man. It’s just some crazy, megalomaniac who may or may not be a homosexual child molester, definitely has daddy issues and who flies around wearing a fucking cape at night!

Can definitely tell Batman is getting his ass handed to him in the last clip. It also sounds like Bane is hissing. Any guesses on what they are chanting? I’m thinking “This is arkham! arkham! This is arkham! arkham!”
they are chanting ‘matalo matalo bane bane’ matalo is spanish for kill him, bane originates in a caribbean prison which is probably why its in spanish and yes bane beats the shit out of batman eventually breaking his back, i imagine in the dark knight rises bane comes to gotham destroys arkham relasing the prisoners causing chaos and then breaks batmans back and the ‘rises’ theme comes from batman coming back and reclaiming gotham from evil, he and commissioner gordon are probably talking in the hospital when they are both incapacitated.

It sounds more like Batman quits. I doubt he gets his back broken.

bane looks small

hes not supposed to be a brute, hes only big and strong from taking venom, hes actually highly intelligent and extremely skilled in hand to hand combat, theyre probably trying to move away from his portrayal in batman & robin which made him out to be a moronic hired gun

he may just quit in the movie since it does take a while to recover from a broken back but im sure bane whoops his ass at some point, im just saying what i know from the comic, either way i like the selection of bane as the villian, i think there will be appearances by other villians, not major roles, it seems like gotham goes to shit after the end of dark knight when batman becomes an outlaw.

i really hope this thread turns into discussing the prospects and theories on the new movie, rather than arguments on past ones.

Yea it’s a comic book. The dudes that started Superman, Batman, those villains etc intended them to caricatures. That’s why its a comic book - it’s an escape from reality, its own universe.

With that in mind, I doubt the creators of the comics care if the characters don’t look like they do in the comics (to some extent obviously) but rather probably focus their concern on the characterisations the writers and the director of the film give them.

I’m sure Hardy will be big enough for people to call him ‘buff.’

I just don’t see how they fit that in time wise. Maybe it just escalates to a point where he just gives up. Levitt’s character may play a significant role as a super cop assigned to hunt batman. I still want to know what role Catwoman plays and what Leam Neeson’s role is going to be.

well ras al gouhl really took a likening to bane so maybe he’ll come in at some point to play, im not sure as to how they’ll fit that into this movie though seeing as this is the last of the trio. i was thinking maybe he could swoop in at the end and introduce himself to bane if this wasnt the last of the nolan’s batmans

Ha! Nah, I didn’t get worked up. I guess I just tend to be a bit wordy, like you. Truth be told, I never had consciously thought about why I like BB better than TDK - because, as I stated, that’s just generally not my nature. So, once you brought it up I even started to become a bit intrigued myself and gave it some thought. That list didn’t take me more than a couple of minutes to come up with.

Seriously, no one even was even fazed by my comment?

I’m well aware of who Bane is. All I was saying from the .2 second clip that I saw of Bane and where I thought Nolan would go with it, I thought that Bane looked small.

I think Bane breaks Batmans back and then bruce wayne is dropped into the lazerous pit and heals. There was some filming in India and cell phone shots showed a large hole with a green screen covering it

I too like BB better than the dark knight. So fuck ya all

Do you think perhaps they take it in the direction of Ra’s being on Batman’s side? Perhaps he has a vendetta against Bane
