The Dark Knight Rises

It’s fucking batman douchbags. I like TDK more because Joker>Ra’s, better fighting scenes, and Rachel Dawes dies. Everything else is secondary.

Can definitely tell Batman is getting his ass handed to him in the last clip. It also sounds like Bane is hissing. Any guesses on what they are chanting? I’m thinking “This is arkham! arkham! This is arkham! arkham!”

DB, I appreciate your detail and lack of brevity when it is not called for. I do not find reading to be “so not worth my time,” especially when it is the central form of communication in this particular medium of discussion.

Joker is certainly not greater than al Ghul. Not even remotely.

This is going to be brilliant. Really really brilliant. Although I still think Batman Begins was better than TDK (heretic I know :P)[/quote]

I’m actually in the same boat. I was pretty sure I was the only one.

Disclaimer: TDK is still one of the most incredible pictures of all time. I just happened to personally like BB ever so slightly better.

i was just talking about this today, i agree both amazing films, but i did like the first one better. i do think they’re gonna follow knightfall, loosely however. with bruce coming out of retirement. if you notice during the trailer, gordon was talking to him as if batman had been out of the game for a while. the movie is gonna be amazing though, the desperate/apocolyptic feel is just amazing, Bane is one of the greatest villan/characters of all time. Tom hardy is a great pick for the role as well. if you guys noticed he gotten pretty fuckin jacked for the movie warrior, which looks pretty good as well

Wait, wait, wait. Hold everything right there, pal. I appreciate your kind words, but you’re more off your rocker than the Joker himself if you think he is not only a lesser villain than al Ghul but that he isn’t even remotely close to al Ghul’s level.

I could see your point, possibly, behind thinking al Ghul is a better villain, but you’ve gone too far to say they’re not even close. Personally, I think the Joker is clearly the superior villain in every sense of the word “superior”. He’s as twisted a character as you’ll find in a comic as mainstream as Batman has been for decades. The whole Lazarus Pit thing has always turned me off to al Ghul. All the Joker has going for him is the fact that he’s fucking bonzo in the brain and he’ll do anything because he simply does not give a fuck. And that he takes advantage of the fact he knows Batman won’t kill him. That’s pretty much it, notwithstanding his obvious intelligence, and it seems to work for him as well as any villain. I like that in a villain and he’s the epitome of that “virtue”.

Wait are you the person who came up with the retarded ass ideas for the potential plot? I really can’t remember if it was you or some other retard. And your dumb ass knows you can buy knightfall in a a collected soft or hardcover book. In fact they do that with most comic book arcs. Peace tards. (I’ll be back)

Jesus Christ. They come in all sizes, shapes and colors…

Knowing full well that this post may be eviscerated by one of the less-magnanimous comic-fan contributors to this thread, I’d just like to say thanks for those of you engaging in the pseudo “debate”…I was never into comic books and had never heard of “Knightfall” or that ilk, and had appreciated the Knight movies as a casual moviegoer would: as simply badass films.

I’m now looking forward to the third installment with even greater excitement, but besides buying Knightfall what else should I look into that will help me better understand the new movie?

I can’t speak much for the movie itself since I don’t really know what the plot is going to be, speculation aside. Knightfall is obviously a good place to start, as well the storyline after it, which you can get in novel format now, called something like KnightQuest or Knights End or KnightSomethingorother.

I would recommmend a storyline from the Legends of the Dark Knight series called “Venom”. I think it’s #17-20 or around there. If you haven’t read much Batman to begin, obviously read The Dark Knight Returns and Batman: Year One, both from Frank Miller. I suppose you should read the Hush storyline which started around Batman #606, The Killing Joke, A Death in the Family (fuck Robin), maybe some of the Cataclysm/No Man’s Land stuff, and Batman: The Long Halloween (overrated in my opinion, but still pretty good), Batman: The Cult and Batman: Son of the Demon (featuring Ras al Ghul). There’s another book called Tales of the Demon and it’s a compilation of all of Dennis O’Neill’s stories with Ras al Ghul. He’s the one who created him, so they’re all the first appearances by him, starting in Batman #232.

I think if you read all of the above you’ll have a really good handle on the whole Batman thing, especially if you read them all in chronological order. In Batman’s chronological order, not in order of publication. I think that would be:

Batman: Year One
The Cult
Venom
Tales of the Demon
Son of the Demon
A Death in the Family (fuck Robin)
The Killing Joke
Knightfall/KnightsEnd
Cataclysm/No Man’s Land
The Long Halloween
Hush
The Dark Knight Returns

And of all of those, if you were to only read the ABSOLUTE essential ones, regardless of the upcoming film, I would go with The Dark Knight Returns and the Killing Joke. They were both inspirations for Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker and they’re perhaps the two best books written and drawn about Batman, period.

Now this is a readable post.

If I put him on ignore I can’t see how the other half lives. I NEED to see this sort of blithering stupidity in order to maintain good feelings about myself.

Nah, Batman Year One and Arkham Asylum are better.

I hurled myself off that cliff a long time ago. But I survived, and now I’m here.

I wouldn’t survive, I dont want to be that really pissed off grumpy old guy. I actually have seen a lot of inspiration for the youth of today on this site. That is why I put some on ignore.

Carry on.
