I’m just happy a movie like this was made that was even good enough to have people talk about it for 20 pages.
When was the last time that happened?
Has it ever happened on this forum? At least not without the thread either getting way off topic or having a bunch of people eventually chime in to say it sucked just to be different.
Looks like it hit the $400 million mark this week.

Well, you could post boobies or something…I’m sure that’d derail it for a lil while. LOL
For what its worth I think Depp could pull off a really good riddler. I was never under the impression that he was a goofy kind of actor. His character for Pirates kind of is, but its very different than some of the other things he has done. I was pretty excited when I heard they had their eye on him.
Phillip seymore hoffman as the penguin is the other rumor that I heard as well.
I am still on the fence for bale as a choice for batman. There has been, in my opinion, an everlasting problem with choosing batmans in the whole franchise.
Keaton-same category as Bale, Good batman, good wayne…outstanding as niether.
Kilmer- Pretty good batman, shitty bruce wayne
Clooney- shitty batman, outstanding bruce wayne.
I dig the catwoman foreshadow. When wayne asks fox if the suit would protect against cats.
jolie anyone?
I think Paul Giammatti would make a better penguin. He is a creepy motherfucker.
Depp would be an awesome riddler. Think chocolate factory meets edward scissorhands

What about Jim Carry as the Riddler???
He actually wouldn’t be a bad choice.
He would be a horrible choice. I was actually watching Batman Forever this morning (hey, it was on TV and I couldn’t resist) for the first time in a long while, and I had forgotten how atrocious he was in that role. It wasn’t the Riddler. It was Jim Carrey . . . dressed up as the Riddler. Could have just as easily been Ace Ventura, or Fire Marshall Bill, or Lloyd Christmas, or [insert other one-dimensional Jim Carrey character of choice here] . . .
I’m actually surprised you would say that, given your comments about Depp and the “feel” of Nolan’s movies. If there’s anyone who doesn’t vibe with Nolan’s vision, it’s Carrey. He was perfect for those campy Schumacher piles of shit.
Truth be told, I am a Carrey fan. Loved his old movies (despite the fact that they were all pretty much the same, as previously alluded to). But Carrey and Nolan’s Batman do not mix.
I do agree with WhiteFlash, however, that the Riddler should be someone “out of left field”; someone who really has the ability to get into the sick mind of the character the way Ledger did with the Joker, not just someone who “plays” the Riddler.
So far I have been very pleased with Nolan’s choices in this series. When I first heard Gyllenhaal was taking over the Dawes role I was pissed, only to be pleasantly surprised. And I think we all remember our first reactions when we first heard Ledger landed the role of the Joker . . . I don’t think I remember a single person saying “He’s going to nail that role.”
I will say that I very much like the idea of Hoffman as The Penguin. I was absolutely taken aback at how friggin’ creepy/scary he was in M:I3. That performance totally blew me away, and I think he’d be a good fit for this interpretation of the Batman series.
Of course he played Ace Ventura as the Riddler the first time. They made a cartooney Batman film with cartooney villains. You’re right, he would be a horrible choice for Nolans universe. I’m not saying I’d like to see him as the Riddler. That would suck. I’m saying if given the chance he’d do a better job than previously seen. Depp as the Riddler would also suck. He’s Tim Burtons cabana boy, not the lead villain in an epic series. With all of that, I’m on board with whatever villains and whichever actors they choose.
Just saw this for the third time (IMAX this go 'round). I still jumped when the Batman imposter hits the window of the mayor’s office.
If they are going to stick with the escalation theme, they need to have the Joker in #3. He is the pinnacle of all of Batman’s villains.
Let’s face it: NOBODY thought Ledger could pull off that role, let alone completely own it the way he did. I see no reason why they can’t have someone else play the role. The model is there, they just need to duplicate it. It can be done, given an extremely talented actor.

Imagine the pressure there, however. When someone comes along and OWNS a role like that, anyone coming in next would either have to literally blow that performance out of the water (which would mean Oscar worthy stand up and applaud with tears in your eyes level of performance) or accept that they will be considered “less than” from that point on.

I saw it again this past weekend and the theater was still packed. My wife was a bit surprised, since I had seen the movie already I wasn’t.
Just as good the 2nd time.
In case anyone’s keeping score, it was still #1 at the box office last weekend. That’s four straight weeks at #1 since its release.
Box office total currently stands at $441 million.
Basically amazing! I had to take a piss so bad the last hour i was about to burst but i could still sit and enjoy how awesome this movie was! Usually when that happens i just want it to end… Heath ledger was funny as hell in this movie! Basically the best movie i’ve seen him in.

I think it would be a horrible mistake to try to duplicate Ledger’s role as The Joker in the 3rd movie.
Even if the new actor somehow miraculously did a ‘better’ job than Ledger, it still just wouldn’t feel right, it wouldn’t be the same.
Ledger IS the Joker now. Anyone else, better or worse, would still be different, and that wouldn’t be good.
They, unfortunately, need to leave The Joker in the 2nd film.
