The Dark Knight: Official Review Thread

Agreed… I was on board that Alfreds jewel thief story was suppose to show that the joker has no motivation other than being evil. Its fun to him, which is why he decided he didnt want to learn batmans identity.

Yeah, I was almost PISSED during the thug scene when he started giving the ‘childhood’ story about the scars…but then when he did the ‘wife’ story at the fundraiser, I thought “genius”…he’s just a sicko.

It’s a nice pendulum swing away from the “nanny state” type of 'everyone’s entitled to become a monster or a dickhead ‘cuz they had bad childhoods’.

I mean, they already fucked up the spectre of Darth Vader being a bad ass by showing him being a kid with mother issues. Ugh.

At the end of the day, we’re all kids with mother issues.

I went and saw it a 2nd time in the IMAX on Sunday morning, and again was the first in line by getting there at 7am (I rule!).

I can honestly say that 90% of the reason I wanted to see it again, and still want to see it a third time, is Ledger’s performance as the joker. Everyone in that movie does a superb job, but their performances are absolutely dwarfed by Ledger.

His speech patterns, his mannerisms, his sick twisted humor, it was all as close to perfect as I’ve ever seen. I think Nicholson’s Joker doesn’t hold a candle to it.

One question, for those more comic-knowledgable than me: Was the black mobster, (the one who sent his boy over to get impaled by the pencil), a figure from the comics? I feel like his name sounded familiar, but I don’t know the backstory well enough.

I don’t believe so but there have been so many incarnations of batman that it’s hard to say 100%.

They didn’t have to kill off Micheal Jai White like that.

agreed, with the deal they made out of casting him in that part, i really thought we would see more from him. I personally would have liked to see more of that character, and skipped over the storyline that brought Batman to Hong Kong. Although i did like the gadgets he used in that scene.

Same deal with Anthony Michael Hall, but i guess the movie can only be so long, and being 2.5 hours, they couldn’t go into character development deeply for everyone.

I would have gladly sat through another hour of this movie though.

Directors Cut DVD Special Edition…I hope I hope I hope

I just saw something on Fox.news about possible villains for the next Batman:

Johnny Depp as Riddler
Philip Seymour Hoffman as Penguin

jpb

Saw it a 3rd time the other night.

I went away really impressed with the Harvey Dent character this time, maybe because i wasn’t as focused on Bale and Ledger.

Aaron Eckhardt really did a great job of showing a character that was everything Bruce Wayne couldnt be.

That’s interesting. I think both of those guys, especially PSH, could pull it off. They’ve shown they can handle just about any kind of acting role you throw at them.

I just saw it last night…and Jesus Christ was it good. It’s too bad that we won’t see the joker in the next movie…and that they killed off two-face so quickly. I hope they put the penguin next time though(although I can’t imagine who can play him.)

I was thinking after I saw the film that Depp is the only other actor who could play Joker as well as Ledger. He always plays weird characters like that. He’d be a good Riddler though.

I hate PSH with a passion; his voice bugs the shit outta me.

Again, some people called this movie the second coming of Christ - it wasn’t. It was no Godfather 2, let alone ‘better than’ Godfather 2. It was just good, but with a ton of hype.

I watched it for a fourth time. I think I have the script down to a T.

Just brag about it why don’t you. Jesus.

Well, I saw Batman four times and I’m considering watching again.

Depp as Riddler would be amazing. If theoretically they do go in that exact direction the results could be fantastic. Imagine some deep complex puzzles that have lives on the balance. Could make for some good entertainment.
