I remember when I did a pure 531 with pr sets I set new pr’s for about 6 month or so… but then all the shiny new objects arrived.
I hate doing sets of more than 5 reps so doing 12 and beyond is really tough.
I used to do those with bench and found them really helpful with PR sets, especially when I was expecting over 10 reps. As always, it worked so well i stopped doing them.
Like lights at the end of a tunnel, there’s a fifty fifty chance it’s an oncoming train
I did some with Smith machine barbell on shoulders, no balance issue, but a bit awkward to find right foot positioning.
Great workouts Mort!
Hahahaha! I feel like I’ve failed if I don’t get at least 10 reps. At some point I kind of want to do a year of pure strength though

Yeah I know the feeling
the single yesterday was quite hard so I just have to get back to it.
Choo choo, and I’ve met my trains on the way ![]()
@boyce79 thanks mate. yes Smith should be good with unilateral work, forces the torso up.
@jackolee you might benefit from a strength cycle, maybe not a whole year, but 3 month or so. If your beat up body can handle it… you’ve got some back issues right?
That’s not a bad call at all. I might steal that.
Over warm-ups are great.
I did have an issue where I ended up using way too heavy of a weight on these though.
At some point I kind of want to do a year of pure strength though
I agree with @mortdk. Three months would be a good start.
Yeah bad back and some bicep tendinitis.

Nothing to do with training or anything.
My dad past away this morning.
After the hip injury a couple of months ago, he got some rehab and then got home to mom. He had some help and mom took good care of him.
Last thursday he got to hospital again, this time he was very ill, he had pneumonia and cystitis.
Over the weekend he got a little better, not much. He hadn’t been eating much if anything for the last week, and he didn’t eat at the hospital.
He got scans and x rays and the staff took so good care of him.
Me and mom visited him everyday, he recognized us all to the end. My boys visited dad the day before he died and he was so happy to see them.
This morning we came early about 9 o’clock, and dad was for the first time in pain he complained about his stomach. The doctors did a fine job to try to find out what was wrong.
At a point he grabbed moms hand, looked her in the eyes and told her that he loved her so much. Mom responded so did she.
About 30 minutes after we came the staff left the room and we sat there with dad, holding his hands trying to comfort him. He had so much pain and cried and moaned. He still knew who we where. I told dad, “calm down dad, try to relax, breath in to stomach hold the air and breath out” He was hyperventilating I told him again and he started to breath deeper and slower. He kind of relaxed in to the breathing.
After 10 - 15 deep breaths, he just died there totally relaxed and secure between his loved ones.
We cried and hold each other. It was very beautiful.
in a month from today they would have had diamond wedding it’s what we calls it, 60 years together.
We came back to dad about 6 hours later, bringing a couple of roses that he and mom had planted more than 50 years ago in the garden, they had the most beautiful sent.
Sorry for the rant guys, just had to write it and didn’t feel like posting it on FB.
Oh no training today, but a walk with the missus talking a bit about my old man.
Hey Mort, sorry to hear about your father. It seems as though you were able to make the best of the situation. All the best man.
