Check out the web site, I think from what I’ve seen you do you’d like it. Power racks, GHR, reverse hypers, tires, sleds and farmer walk implements. And not a single cardio machine in the place. Couple good clips on Youtube as well that you can link through the site. The Hamilton location is on Stonechurch Rd.
I’m in Hamilton. I’ve never heard of SST. What sort of facility it it?
Another London UWO Member! 4th Year Biology. New gym is okay but I liked how dirty and old the UCC was. Can’t say I hate all the girls that now work out at the new Rec Center though!
The staff are still pricks though, I get in trouble weekly for deadlifting and they watch like hawks for anyone lifting without shoes.
ANd so far, 4 of the new bars they purchased broke… the end just slides off. Cheapest things I’ve ever seen. I watched a guy squatting for reps with 405 and the bar broke, dumping the weight all to one side!

wow, that’s bad, sure am glad I came to WLU instead.
Hey, I’m going to be in an around Burlington next week for a week or two. Are there any decent gyms in the area that allow chalk and deadlifts. I will be in the hammer a little too.
So, I’ve lived in Ontario my entire life. I don’t like Montreal and I don’t wanna go to Vancouver. However, I was thinking about when I was older maybe MAYBE moving to Alberta. I’m a born and raised city kid so I need my big towns. Just wondering if any of you live in Calgary or Edmonton. What’s it like?

Try the site that I posted earlier. sstcanada.com They have one in Burlington and Hamilton. Could probably work something out with them for a few workouts. I know the Burl. site has a bin full of chalk and encourages deadlifts. Even 4 trap bars to use as well.
Work in Toronto, live in Barrie now ('bout an hour drive north).
Lived in Manitoba for 5 years… so flat you can watch your dog run away there for about 3 days. Good hunting and fishing.
Lived in Oromocto New Brunswick for 6 years… only place I have ever seen swamps on the side of a hill.
Worked in Penticton BC for a couple of months, nice place, people kinda snobbish.
Worked in Rogers Pass BC for a couple of months… partied in Golden and Revelstoke, nice place, cool people. Golden could use some new DNA though, people’s family trees out there look like broom handles.
Spent some time in Quebec during the Oka Conflict… that was different. Some very disillusioned and arrogant s.o.b.s there.

I go to UW and was thinking about getting a WLU gym membership but apparently they’re like $160 for the term, that’s kinda steep for a broke ass student

My family is from Barrie and I’m heading back there in a week after school is done! Where do you work out in Barrie? I was at Ultimate on Mapleview before but I heard the owner was dicking people around so I’m thinking about either Georgian College or Goodlife.
When I first started working out it was the gym at the Sportsplex off Merivale rd, the only place that had a decent “gym” in the area at the time. It had a rack and a universal combo thing and DBs, rough and tough and only serious lifters. I saw it recently and it is more of a business attire all chrome gym and pitiful equipment IMO.
When I found out about the “new” Y on Merivale (Business park) I switched over to it and at that time it only had one rack back then and full of “futuristic” equipment and still had an air of serious only type training and hardly any women. Since I was training for football I was fine with not having distractions at such an impressionable age (not really).
I have a full gym at home with decent equipment even for hardcore lifters, the only thing I don’t have are bumper plates.
I also workout at work since my wife and kids workout I find it hard for me to get time in my own gym LOL. That’s cool the kids will move out eventually and I’ll have my playground back.
I would to check out the Y today just to see how things evolved.
Perhaps a mini Canadian Tmuscle get together at the Ottawa Y followed by wings and beer for recovery? Patio season is upon us gang!

I trained at Ultimate when I first moved to Barrie, and left there for the reason you state… people were getting dicked around and the prices went up almost $300 over 3 years… with no new equipment or anything.
I train at “Total Fitness” at Ferndale and Dunlop (behind the outdoor hockey rinks) and Curtis, the owner, is awesome. The prices are excellent (especially for students) and everyone is real helpful, no pretentious snobs or jerky boys.
I suggest taking a look there and compare with Goodlife.
Goodlife is “pretty”… as well as more expensive… Total is kinda homely, but very functional and affordable.
