The Book 'The Secret'

Is it any good? Judging by its popularity, I’m guessing it’s worth the read. Got it for Christmas.

Right now I am reading “How to Win Friends and Influence People” and plan on reading “Think and Grow Rich” next.

Does “The Secret” compare to these two classics?

If you think Ghostbusters and Lord of the Rings documented actual historical events, go for it. Otherwise, return it - you will find someone who will take it back in heartbeat if it was purchased at a B&N, Borders etc.

If “Think and Grow Rich” is what it sounds like it’s about… I’d suggest “Total Money Makeover” as well.

Its one of the most useful books I’ve ever read and I recommend it to basically everyone.

‘The Secret’ is bullshit and says if you chant to yourself that you want something it will come to you magically without any effort.

It is for idiots.

The other 2 books are worth a read and provide real-world stratergies to achieve the goals mentioned in their titles.

That should answer that.

damn makavali you beat me to it

Bwa ha ha ha! My evil knows no bounds!!

Another case of fact vs fiction.

Wow, thanks for the comments and link, great article! You confirmed my thoughts.

Somehow just the title and back page made me skeptic. Sure it’s immensely popular but so is Paris Hilton. Can’t really return it though, Christmas gift from my mom, who hasn’t read it by the way.

I’d say that pretty much anything that’s written is “worth” a read. You can generally figure out something useful, one way or another.

There was a pretty heavy discussion of “The Secret” in this thread:

All I’m gonna say is I read a lot of books, and rarely do I ever finish one and think that I wasted my time reading it or the author was a complete chucklehead. The Secret, however, came damn close to being that book. A better title for it would have been “Artificial Happiness”.

It sounds like it’s for fat bitches who want to keep eating cake.

I’ve been wishing for a copy of that book since it came out… Nothing.

Therefore it MUST be a load of crap.

I read all three and IMO think and grow rich and how to win friends and influence people are better books. Think and Grow Rich is basically the same as the secret, but with some sick examples. And How to win friends really puts a psychological spin to manipulation, but good manipulation…Check them out, youd learn a lot.
