Oh, and one time I was disgruntled and did shrugs 275 x 100, ASAP, with no straps. I think it took 12 sets. Maybe I’ll do it with 315 today.
I love dumbell shrugs, sadly my gym’s dumbells only go up to 100 so now I have to use barbells. Doing dumbell shrugs for sets of 5-10 for 50-100 total reps with a 2 second pause at the top has been great for my trap development.

Barbell shrugs, little hip and leg drive thrown in.
Backed. You get awesome traps and calves simultaneously.

Long Live the Jump Shrug. Do you think its better to do them with a clean grip or a snatch grip?
All I do is shrugs. That is all that I believe is needed for them.

I use a clean grip.
Military press, t-bar, bentover rows, and a rather odd routine that burns alot and I have no idea what the name of it is. I’ll get a video sometime and out it on or find a way to show them.

What’s the difference between the grip types? Is the clean grip also known as a reverse grip? i.e One hand palm up, the other palm down?

One palm up and one down would be a “mixed grip.”
What do you do now for traps? How much weight do you use?

So what is a clean grip? If I understand correctly, a snatch grip is just a synonym for an “overhand” grip, right? So what would that make a clean grip?

I absolutely disagree. Boyle mentioned in one of his articles how he hates them and how they contributed to the neck and shoulder problems of him and others.
My best results have come from wide grip DL’s, Deadlift shrugs, and low pulley high pulls.
Iv recently added power snatches to my weekly repitoire and I am interested to see how they help.

Wrong. A snatch grip is when you have your hands out wide near the plates, as if you were doing a snatch. Similarly a clean grip is the same grip you would use if you were doing the clean part of a clean and jerk (ie a bit wider than your knees).
I’m surprised this link hasn’t come up yet:

It’s an article by Jim Wendler discussing trap development. Highly recommended.

I use hang cleans for my traps. With heavy weight they will grow quick.
