The Beautiful Gain

Awesome advice everyone!

Snap, the way you describe it makes sense, i think i can picture it. My mental vision of the sumo was always like an explosive upward movement, but I see what you mean by tipping backward. And its true my butts still up.

PB Andy, no worries, feel free to compliment me in any thread  Yes to squeezing the ass! Now i just have to figure out how to do that while ā€œtipping back wardsā€. The Dl has a lot going on.

nlmain, thanks! I do put my hair back when i play soccer or do vigorous activity eyebrow raise, but when I lift I feel I can’t be bothered - plus it makes me feel girly.

Kmc - HA! Said like a true new yorker. Falling back, much like tipping back - ok, i hear ya.

Kimba, skye, Blue - Thanks guys! Blue, sound advice, thank you.

Today was bench day

Bench 5x75, 80, 85, 90 3x95 < didn’t get all 5, but 3 more than last time. micro plates are sound better already

Chins - 7, 6, 5, 3, 3 < got 3 more than last time - 10 in 2010 baby!

DB Rows - 12x30, 3x8x35 < at least i hit 35. These are hard!

Pushups - 4x25 < only 1 set of 15, the rest were broken down

and then cuz i was getting bored (can’t wait to change accessories - so adding in good mornings!) I did a set of 1 arm DB Snatches. I lurv these! 6x25, 30, 35. 1 guy was totally impressed that he was completely befuddled. HAHA!

Also just want to say, these are GREAT to add in a circuit. My heart was pounding! Also great for core work - theres your ab exercises. I wonder if I could add them? Maybe to DL day?

Ok, tomorrow i’m off. Friday I go check out a new gym with my friend Ricardo - I’m stoked! They have round plates and apparently are pretty serious. Looking forward to it

obviously no DL expert here but your lifts were looking pretty solid, Maschy! of course, i get distracted admiring your hammies and buns…but i’m certain you were pulling pretty darn good.

Blue just wants someone else to have their shins bruised to shit with her…just kidding! that’s one of the best cues i tell myself when i do deads.

niiice benching there, woman.

i like snatches too.
d’oh…couldn’t resist. they are a good lil exercise to throw in. (these are the snatch with a hand from opposite foot and then press at the top?) i love them for some kettlebell action.

hope the new gym is what you are looking for.

and yah-i likes the wild hair too but no way can i do any lifting with mine down. i wear a pony all the gosh darned time anyhow.

Maschy wants to look pretty so she wears her hair down.

Round plates. It’s where it’s at. (Actually this sentence disturbs me, having been an English major long ago.)

Nice training today, Masch! Improvements on both bench and chins is exciting!

Everyone seems to be doing these DB snatches lately… I wanna jump on the bandwagon too!

Can’t wait to hear about the new gym.

Deadlift bruises are the shit, btw. All the cool kids have them.

LOL!!

snatches are fun  good work on the bench, damn you on those chins - I’m still usin the rubbers, and yeah for rounded plates. I’ve never tried the squared ones but they look evil to me. Like they came form the same inventor as the bossu ball.

girl your rocking it!! loved all the advice on DL i just cant seem to get the hang of them damn things

Thanks ladies!

T, snatch jokes never get old.

Blue, Deadlift bruises? we’ll see about that.

Lol! Snap just called my ass out! Evs. I’m vain. (hows that for horrible english)

nlmain, I’ve never tried bands - but maybe I should! I also just want to remind you, less than a year ago I was doing 0 chins or pullups, so anything goes!

Robilyn - sup mama! Tell me about it.

So operation ā€œReal Gymā€ is underway. Todays gym was a seriously old school basement gym (see pic). Try doing new fangled mobility work in a place like this and see how ridic you’ll feel. It was super relaxed and I didn’t feel uncomfortable, slightly intimidated b/c the guys were jacked, but no one bothered with me. Met a cool trainer named Chuck.

Squat 5x95, 115, 125, 130, 135 < I realize I have a pattern, the penultimate set is pretty good and then the last set gets wobbly - but I do think the squats on DL day help this. Not sure about moving up in weight until I feel more solid.

Step ups - 4x12x50 < up in weight, failed on 2 or 3 reps in there, which is good actually. I had to use a bench though and that made me a bit more unstable than normal.

Rev Hypers - 12x10, 3x25 < different gym, different machine - my back will be sore

RDLs 10x70, 90 2x10x100 < supposed to do ab wheel, but yeah, no ab wheel at this gym. Lol.

Anywho, the gym was pretty cool - super low key. They did have round plates tho, and this made me happy. However, no squat cage and this is no good for me. I even commented to my friend Ricardo that I would really like a cage in case I fail, and he replied, ā€œwell then I guess you don’t failā€. LOL! Such a bro.

Good on you for loading up the big plates and squatting with no cage! Very ballsy. I definitely wouldn’t join a gym without a cage. Keep looking.

A cage is the most important piece of equipment in my book.

Penultimate is one of my favourite words.

Nice training! How many more gyms are you planning to check out?

Take pics of your deadlift bruises when you get them, k?

Gym shopping huh? cool…

Thanks ladies, agreed on the cage deal. So this gym is out. If anything I’d be willing to pay the $5 charge to do some DLs there should I want to use round plates, but I def need a cage. I think I have about 3 other gyms under consideration. We’ll see.

Today was supposed to do upper body lifting, but its so freaking nice out that I think I might just hit up a pick up soccer match instead. And then tomorrow I have a league game - its supposed to rain all day. Meh.

Forgot to mention that last week we won our match 4-2 and guess who scored two goals? That’s right! yours truly  First goal was a scramble in the box, second goal I sailed it in from 20 yards. Felt pretty darn good about it. Pulled myself out of the game 4 mins til end b/c my hammie was feeling a bit weird (still a mental problem cleary).

And now b/c I’m totally OCD, I have to revise next weeks schedule to get all my lifting in. HAH! I’m a DORK!

Yay for your goals! Those always feel sooooo good!

Scoring goals must feel so. awesome. Do you rip off your shirt? If so, we need to see this.

Yeah, Maschy. Molly was asking about high-impact sports bras. User-tested.

HAHA, Good one!!

lol… way to go on the goals, and your no dork for fitting in all your lifting i call that awesome!!
keep it up

cheers to maschy scoring goals! woooo-hoooo! i like the sound of taking up another activity on a beautiful day rather than hitting the weights, absolutely nothing wrong with that. have fun gym shopping!

Hey Masch,
Always a pleasure to see someone that is focused and works hard (and is hot, can’t forget the hotness.)

Anywho, just an observation…on squats, for example, I’ll suggest a tweak that may help. Unsolicited advice is tricky so feel free to tell me to jam it

You did…Squat 5x95, 115, 125, 130, 135…The increments are pretty small which is likely leading to fatigue before the money set.

Option…As you increase the weight decrease the reps until you get to the big set (you’ll be stronger), then drop the weight 10-20% and get your reps in.
You might try something like…bar x whatever, 65x10, 95x8, 115x5, 130x3, 140xAMAP (likely 5), 115x10 (or so).
Or, ramping up to a top set and then dropping 10% (or so) and doing 5x5 works well too.

Keep rockin’ it…it’s working.

^ thats good advice, and something I normally try and do Masch.
