The Beautiful Gain

Thank you so much ladies!! This is why I’m glad I joined the forum. You guys are really helping me put everything in perspective, and I’m happy that I’m not alone in this. Phew!

You’re all right. This is a choice I made for a healthier lifestyle, and as a consequence I’m going to get people who understand and appreciate it and those that don’t. I shouldn’t let any of my doubts and insecurities take over my life, but focus on getting strong, staying healthy and enjoying the journey!

Meanwhile, “petting my own triceps when no one is looking” - freaking hilarious. I’ll have to start doing this myself!

Thats exactly right! You should print that out and post it all over your house!

With all the talk of squatting, I got kind of excited to squat again. So Friday I went and lifted with my girl Dix - ugh! Terrible. Its been a while and did four sets: first 12x65, 10x85 and 8x95 for the last 2.

First set I had toes forward and was hitting parallel, but then I toed out and was able to get deeper, but let me tell you, by the last set I was STRUGGLING! I can’t wait to get back into the squatting and putting some numbers on the bar.

Anyways, you couldn’t see a more mis-matched pair of workout partners - Julie is 5’7 and I’m 5’2, so sharing a squat rack was hilarious. We play on the same soccer team and she’s even more of a beginer to lifting than I. She’s amazed that “a tiny person” can lift such heavy objects. Haha! Anyways, Julie’s built for lifting, she’s a natural athlete and has that competative spirit, for good and bad. I hope I can encourage her to get strong.

Yesterday was an off day - and I mean off OFF. Watched the Club World Cup, ate Chinese food, hung out with my guy, all in all nice. We got dumped on with snow, so I bailed on going out, which was probs for the best since I’d been out at night Thurs and Fri - drinking detrimental to healthy lifestyle.

Today I have an ass-load of work to do, but I’m gonna hit the gym later in the day. Love working out on Sundays, ain’t no one around!

Update on today’s lifting: NO BUENO!

As the laws of intention would have it, my shoulder started to hurt when I started the YTWL - particularly with the Y. Now I’ll have to sacrifice a small animal to the lifting gods so that I can get healed me up in time for my next session (jk! i think…). I don’t know, maybe 10lbs is too much for this dumb dumb exercise.

Anyways, b/c of this I didn’t want to do anymore upper-body work so as not to exacerbate. So i had to cut that out today. Then I just got all around discouraged and cut the whole workout short - bah!

Still got some good things in though. Thanks to all the discussion, i switched out the ‘barbell romanian deadlift w/ bent over row’ for conventional deads. They actually felt really good and I ended up with:

10x95, 8x115, 6x125, 4x135 - I think next time I do these I’m going to start with higher weight, lower rep. I also had the whole rack set up, so I didn’t get to pull the 135 off the floor, which I def want to get back to doing if only for the sake of form.

Anyways, tomorrow is another day - another cardio day, that is! And then I was hoping to lift on Tues, but I’ll have to feel that out.

Quite right. Tomorrow is another day to keep on keeping on.

i dont care if they see me.

Thanks for stopping by CBear84!

Indeed, my bf and I have been together for 8 years. when he met me I was a chain smoking tart of 21. I probably weighed a buck ten. So i’d say he’s still getting used to my new body. But i find that being strong only makes me more of a trolla, and that keeps him happy.

Needless to say, i can’t agree more about finding a lover that “raves over my body” - working on it!

oh and, good cardio day. Did 15 mins hit and then 25 mins SS, running with the random setting (such a beast!). Then did the bike for a quick 10 mins. I felt really good and was only out of breath on the sprints, but recovered quick.

I’m really in great shape endurance wise. If I could just get my skillz up I bet I could play professional. Even at 29. I’m fitter than 3/4 of the girls I play with and I’ve got a good 5 years on them. And really, in this sport, fitness is 50% of the game (exception for Riquelme who is simply lazy) - as a coach once said, “you only get to touch the ball for 20mins in this game, make them count.” The rest of the time you’re just running your ass off. I’m a box to box player, so this is good for me. While the other girls are lagging I’m zipping around, relentless like Carlitos Tevez.

We’ll see.

Yesterday was a lifting day. Nothing spectacular - bumped up some reps where I felt I could.

One Armed DB Snatches (OADBS) 2x4x30, 2x6x30
DB single leg Romanian deadlifts (DBSLRD) 1x4x30, 3x6x30
BB bent over row (BBBR) 1x4x85, 1x6x85, 2x4x90
DB single arm over-head squat (DBSAOS) 4x4x12.5/25 - these kind of sucked today, not sure why
DB incline bench press (DBIBP) 3x6x30, 1x4x40 - i need a spotter for the 40s, and i’m still a shy guy asking
Reverse wood chop (RWC) 1x6x25, 3x4x30
pullups 1 full/5half (not fully extended), 1/3
chinups 4full/3half, 3

Finished it off with a quad body matrix type deal.
All body weight:
24 squats
24 lunges (alternating)
24 jump lunges (1side first then other)
24 jump squats
Done 2x. This shit makes me want to throw up every time, incredible.

Pullup(s) also make me want to throw up, and I only do 1! pathetic.

Also, i’m struggling with whether lifting 3x a week is too much. I had some lower back DOMS yesterday which I think was affecting my workout. Most likely its the cardio that’s causing the problem, but i’m afraid to cut that out since I’m still mulling over trying out for THE team. I’m going to lift on Thurs and see how I feel and then evaluate.

Anywho, on the incline press got spotted by my trainer friend and he gave me some good tips. I learn! claps excitedly

Also, ate like a champ last night. Edging towards 3k calories - yeesh! Today Jane Fonda style low carb, low cal, cardio and pilates.

I’m cheering you on for that one pullup and those chins! That is difficult stuff. I’ve found it incredibly helpful to use bands to assist my chins and pullups when I’d like to do more reps, but just can’t manage it on my own.

Which team?

You’re right! I really should try them!

I’ve had a human assist me a couple times (more times without me asking which is annoying) and it just turned out to be a leetle too intimate for me. So bands might be good!

Sky Blue

The tryout is literally weeks away and I’m still undecided, but its been on my life’s “To Do” list for a year or so.

I checked to make sure I was “allowed” to tryout and according to NCAA I am. Now the question is, how to get to bumblef*ck NJ?

with Mele! Fun stuff, best of luck!

Oh and to get your pull #s up I’d set a number of singles to hit each workout, say 10, then after so many workouts, say 8, bump it to 15, then 20, by that point you should be pulling 2-3 at a time. Just keep bumping the total and hit it in as few sets as possible - something to think about

“a chain smoking tart of 21…” makes me giggle

Yes, but obviously I didn’t read it while drinking a margarita. Unlike tonight.

Yeah, Mele, that’s right! So you know a bit about soccer, I see. Don’t hold out on me!

Another great tip - i’ll try this too!
