Overall really good session. I had the idea of doing 305 for 5 as soon as I was coherent from last weeks workout. Knew it should be doable. Might have had one sick grinder left in me, but the 5th rep was definitely sufficiently hard enough. Doing the the heavy stepups was a spur of the moment decision but I am glad I did though.

Came down with some stomach issues. Didn’t get any quality sleep. Woke up feeling like a semi ran me over. MIssed class, felt miserable at work, just wanted to get some work in tonight.

Got a comparatively great night of sleep, most of the sudden fatigue seems to have dissipated overnight. Tonight’s training should go fine.

Strength Games Prep

I felt mediocre all day, still was dealing with the stomach issues for 95% of the day. Luckily all the huge wave of fatigue that I dealt with yesterday was mostly gone too. Probably just cause I got some ok sleep. Still woke up after only sleeping 3 hours and then was able to sleep until right before my alarm went off. Everything felt 100% shortly before I got to the gym. Overall decent session. Didn’t quite hit my goal of 8 reps but thats ok, 7 is still good enough.

Ravaged the sled drag work. Adding 15 pounds to what I could do while not really training sled drags all that much recently. Although this specific modality is more about lactic acid/pain tolerance than brute strength.

Strength Games Prep - Deload

Yay another crappy night. I didn’t get to sleep til 730am. Stomach problems came back fiercely. Ended up going to the hospital. They didn’t actually do much besides take some tests and prescribe me some meds. Left the hospital and vomited in the parking lot. Which cleared up about half the abdominal pain. Downed some extra vitamins and water, and the pain dulled enough to fall asleep. Skipped class again so I could sleep some more. Woke up with minimal pain, but feeling drained AF.

Axle Overhead for Reps
Zero’d this event, knew I would, it was heavy. Tried one time to get it up knew it wasn’t worth the fight so I stopped.

Deadlift for Reps
Was expecting anywhere from 1-3 reps. For some reason I thought this was an axle pull. Either way I got a big fat zero. Really really quite disappointed. Going to work really hard on bringing up my weaknesses to hopefully not zero the deadlift medley at Winter Siege.

Farmer’s Walk/Sandbag Medley 2 pts
So I moved the Farmer’s about 8-11ft not exactly sure and the score sheet doesn’t show that for some reason. Pretty happy considering it was pretty heavy and wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to move it. Grip again didn’t seem to be the issue, but posterior chain was. I mean I knew this before from the previous 5 last place finishes, but it keeps getting reinforced. I think I get it now and am going to work hard on it.

Conan’s Wheel 4 pts.
As silly as this sounds this is the highlight of my strongman career so far. I beat 3 people at an event. I really wanted to get one full revolution but got just under half way. IT felt heavy and awful but I honestly thought I would have gotten further. My friend who was there spectating who is much more knowledgeable and experienced in strongman gave me some tips. Probably the only reason I got as far as I did.

There was a lot of time wasting fuckery going on with people warming up with no weight for this event. So I went inside and did Zercher Pin Squats with a pro mini band for shits and giggles. Worked up into the high 200s or low 300s by the time the actual event was getting started.

At this point I was 1 point behind 2 people. In my head I was repeating “Just fucking get 1” Didn’t get any reps. sealing my last place position. Both of the guys 1 point ahead of me zero’d the stones, so I really just needed that one and I would have jumped 2 places and got my first not last place.

I have Winter Siege in 5 weeks in Dubuque, IA. Depending on how that goes I am going to take a break from competing. I really just need to focus on getting stronger. Competing and meeting people is really fun, but it also is bearing on me mentally right now that I have 6 last places. Even with some progress and nipping at people’s heels. I don’t expect to win but damn.

Deadlifts strange didn’t you hit 440 for reps in prep? To be fair axle is quite different to DL bar.

Great meeting you dude! This show was heavy as hell, and each event would just keep beating you up where the previous event left off. I’d never felt so hammered from a comp before, haha. With how many folks withdrew, just making it to the end was a victoruy.
Hope Winter Siege goes well.

I hit 450 for 3 in May, I knew I wasn’t quite back there yet but one rep should have been there. Most I hit in prep was 425 for 3.

Yeah it was absolutely brutal. Several people bowing out. Maybe its something for the promoter to think about in the future since he said he was planning on doing this again next year.

Winter Siege Prep

Had a very strong itch to train today. Not wanting to destroy myself, just limited it to conditioning and abs. No barbells or dumbbells allowed today.

The last round was 6 continous rounds. Which came out to 11.5 minutes of straight dragging and pushing the sled back and forth. I originally was just going to do 5 rounds but the timer was at about 9 minutes 20 seconds and I wanted to keep going and hit 10 minutes but I wasn’t doing a partial round just to hit 10 minutes.

Something I will be starting when the season is over. lol. Will be moving back to a more off season style approach after Winter Siege is done and dusted.
