Gave myself an opportunity for a heavy single on deadlifts to give myself a benchmark after not training my normal deadlift almost all year. I was really hoping to get closer to 500 than 435, but 465 stayed glued to the ground. I know with more training with my normal style this should clean up pretty quick.
Since I was doing a very high effort single, I just prescribed speed work as the back off to not dig too big of a recovery hole on day 1 of prep.

My anxiety about this competition is super high, probably because of the long break. I always have some anxiety about competing, but it seems way more intense than usual. Maybe has some thing to do with the fact I am very locked into the idea of using it to qualify for nationals and that the outcome of this event has direct impact on my plans until June of next year. Also frustrated with what feels like lackluster progress from the year+ off of competing.

I think my biggest take away from this, is going forward that I shouldn’t take such long times off from competing unless its for a bad injury.Try to do two times a year. One in the early part of the year and one in the later part of the year if possible.

Life a little chaotic right now. Going through training and testing for a new job while working my current/old one. Hoping this one gives me the opportunity to actually live my life, not just exist in it. Trying to find a good enough work/life balance and working in freight as my primary source of work, works against that.

Pretty set on doing Kansas City’s Ultimate Strongman II after Apex Strength, not signing up for a bit just in case something else pops up that is close enough that I would rather do.

Car broke down, and got sick back to back. So missed a week and half of training. Just kind of trying to pick up the pieces with only two real training weeks left for Apex Strength. Dealing with issues related to job change and some of the red tape involved in the new position.

Really starting to dial in on what to do after Apex Strength Games, becoming likely it will be my only competition this year. Which stinks, but just have to play the cards I have been dealt. Training wise probably going to do chainable short term training blocks, so it’s easier to pivot.
