Hey watsup guys, maybe some will disagree but i believe wrestling is a extremely demanding combat sport. I my self am a high school wrestler started off in 7th grade and have been addicted ever since, im now a senior sitting at about 168 pounds, trying to slowly cut my way down to the 152 weight class were ill be ranked top 5 in the state…
So i know there are some old timer wrestlers out there who know what it means to truly cut weight, before the days of hydration tests, and body fat checks. so im pretty curious to hear some stories, tips, w.e share some wrestling stuff.
I guess I am an old timer wrestler.
and a veteran cutter.
I used to cut 12 lbs or more sometimes 2x a week- and will also say
that I DO NOT advocate it.
particularly for HS students.
there are lots and LOTS of good threads on this.
try google
you might want to take advantage of things I did not have access too
like Dr. Berardi’s book for grapplers.
Cutting sucks, is unhealthy, and does do permanant damage- I did not shave til I stopped wrestling.
as in Bald, no feathers. Im sure I did other damage internally to my liver and kidneys.
that being said its part of the game , get good at it and do it safe.
It’s the weight cutting in wrestling that actually inspired me to learn about training and nutrition. You watch a guy cut 7 lbs. in 2-3 hours, then puke after his match and get the shakes, you realize really quick how insane things get.
Craziest thing I ever saw was at college level, 24 lbs in 24 hours. I still shudder a little just thinking about it.
