The 21-year-old Australian woman was livid when she slammed into a bicyclist while texting late last year, putting dents in her car. The victim suffered a spinal fracture and would spend the next three months in a hospital, but Davis wasn’t having any of it, The Standard reports.
“I just donâ??t care because Iâ??ve already been through a lot of bullshit and my car is, like, pretty expensive and now I have to fix it,” she told a responding officer two days after the Sept. 20 collision. “Iâ??m kind of pissed off that the cyclist has hit the side of my car. I donâ??t agree that people texting and driving could hit a cyclist. I wasnâ??t on my phone when I hit the cyclist.”
Davis, of Port Fairy, pleaded guilty on Monday to dangerous driving and was fined $4,500. Police say she used her phone behind the wheel 44 times before running down the cyclist. She called emergency responders but parked more than 300 feet away from the victim and refused to offer him help.
Wow, a woman with a completely unfounded sense of entitlement wwho blames everyone else for her fuck ups and refuses to accept responsibility for her actions? Didn’t see that comin’.

Well come on, that horrid cyclist dented her car! I mean, let’s be honest, poor Ms. Davis had already been through a lot of bullshit that day, and I would imagine she just ‘couldn’t even’. We’ve all been there.

As a guy who has bicycled to work on and off for the last few years and still uses a bike to get around (quick trips to the grocery store, climbing gym, etc) at times, this is disturbing. I realize that it’s not exactly news that some young, immature women care more about their problems than anyone else’s (note, this is not exclusive to women either) but it is always disturbing to read of a motorist showing blatant disregard or outright hostility towards the safety of cyclists.

It seems that the attitude towards cyclists varies by location. In Los Angeles, drivers treat cyclists like they are the little mushrooms in Mario Kart. I recall that it was much safer to ride my bike in northern California.
Packs of cyclists used to hog the streets by my old house every weekend near Dallas to the point where I dreaded driving on the weekends. I can’t say I didn’t occasionally feel like simply mowing them down with my pickup.

Around here cyclists only ride on curvy, hilly, one lane roads. I swear it’s like they want to be hit.
Round my parts cyclist don’t obey the traffic laws and us people in cars have to deal with their bullshit. Near my house one guy always rides his bike in the middle of the damn street and one day I went around him, and he gave me the “what the hell” raised hands in the air like he wanted to start some shit. I didn’t even try to graze him or go too near, fucking cyclist like him ruin it for the good ones.
But on another note…texting and driving…I’ll never understand why people feel compelled to do that. I hope this Kimberly Davis gets hit in the face with a bicycle and it dents her teeth.
I remember walking and driving around Amsterdam, cyclist ruled everything. The owner of the business I was auditing said the Dutch are born holding a bike.

I believe texting and driving should be considered as seriously as driving while dead-drunk.
I can ride a bike to home while drunk, done this multiple times in college after a party. I can take a 2 hour trip that involves multiple subway line changes and multiple bus changes (just don’t ask me how I did it because I honestly don’t remember anything about it, just that I got home) while dead drunk.
But I cannot do any of those while texting on a cellphone.
Being drunk impairs judgment and situational awareness. But you are capable of looking at the road and seeing what’s going on, so long as you were a careful driver to begin with. You cannot do this while texting. Texting completely removes all situational awareness. We’ve seen all those funny videos of people running into things as they walk while texting. There is no difference from this and driving while texting.

Cheers to Darwinism and may the heard be thinned. You have to be pretty dense to ride a bike on heavily trafficked roads, especially if the speed limits are anything over 25.

You live close enough to me that I can x2 this statement. Also, the fact they want to obey every rule of the road save the stoplight.
