Hmm, I guess I am one of the few that absolutely refuses to touch a cell phone while driving. Whether I receive a call or text, I wait until I stop before reading/responding. Lost too many friends in car accidents and I would be devastated if I killed someone over a phone call. Just my two cents, though.
No your not alone. I’m an avid motorcyclist and I think cell phones should be illegal while driving. I don’t know how many times I have almost been KILLED by some retard on their phone, either texting or talking.
To everyone who says they can do both I call BS. It still affects your coordination and your piloting a 2 ton missile at 70 down the highway I think driving demands a little more respect. If you need something to do drive a manual car like I do, It makes me not want to use a phone anyway.
I drive and text. I drive with one hand anyway. Plus, I’ve never lost concentration for more than a second to read the text, and I’ve made it a habit to make sure I check all my mirrors and surroundings before I do so.
If anything, I’ll fuck up the text message because I’m focusing on the road. And if the response I want to send is too long, I tell the person to wait until I stop.
I mean, if you have to look at your phone to text, then I’m against doing it because then it doesn’t even have to do with concentration, it has to do with whether or not you can even see the road.

If you were a passenger in a car being driven by somebody who is texting at the same time, would you be out of line to ask them to text later?
I would probably tackle them and eat their corpse after the crash.
