Awesome.

Even more amazing is that she is a superstar volleyball player on a team that has won their district for 18 straight years. Glad to know that people were impressed by this athlete.
I feel privileged to be her coach cause she is an awesome competitor, and works hard to be good. Since the meet I know she has played in 3 national volleyball tournaments over spring break. She never lifted serious weight till this year, and couldn’t squat or touch her toes when we started the season. She is already talking about breaking the deadlift record of 415 next year.

We were sitting in front of her father, grandfather, etc. I hate her dad missed the rest of her lifts because of a family emergency…but grandpa was VERY proud…lol. I hope big things for her.

Very Impressive. Sounds like she is hooked. Maybe she will even stay with lifting after she graduates!
Hope so. It is sad that we don’t keep more of the younger ones involved after high school…

Thanks Yo Momma and don’t get me wrong I enjoy helping the lifters – their coaches on the other hand, well they tend to be jackasses…

Let me first say that I owe Steamroller an apology. He was a coach at my platform that weekend…with that said he was NOTone of the jackasses. Most of the coaches are fine – but several do not treat the workers with any respect or manners. They are very demanding and not very understanding or forgiving…
I am still glad that we will not be running it next year…
firebug9…
I didn’t take it to be offensive to me. I remember we both laughed when you threw the pen lid at me for being in the way. But yeah some of the coaches can be assholes. You guys have done a great job of putting on the state meet for years. Are you coming down to Corpus next year for the meet?

Steamroller,
Glad you were not offended ;p
Not sure if I will be there. We have HS Nationals next year and that is another large meet. We will see… And Thanks for the compliment.

This is a great thread - thanks for the inspiration!
Impressive!

It looks like about 120kg, but I cant tell for sure.

Uhh…I believe thats 280 or 285lbs…so somewhere around 130kg,right??
Yep 130kg = 285lb
I am sad to say that 130kg is pretty close to my current max (im male and 180lb).
Wow, this is awesome…! It’s good to know they have so much support.
And what’s really great is that unlike bodybuilding or figure competitions, these young women will come away from this experience knowing that that were judged solely on their performance and not someone elses subjective ideal of femininity mixed with sexuality designed to titilate an audience and sell tickets.
No eating disorders or self esteem issues here. Just dedication, consistency and hard work.
Powerlifting (or Olympic lifting for that matter) will teach these young women to find the strength inside themselves and tap it. This important lesson bubbles over into so many life experiences. It teaches them that if they can do this…they can do anything.
Very, very cool. I hope this becomes more popular in high schools around the country.
Thanks for sharing.

Holy crap.
14yo girl with a 375lb deadlift.
How? how how how how how how how…I feel like I just got punched in the balls.
Good for them anyway.
LiftSmart, yea we both suck. I figure in a year or so we will be able to pull that without too much of a problem. Newbie gains, right?

I’m with you on this. One of the things that got me interested in lifting was a picture I saw of a young woman at the bottom of a power snatch. The pure look of triumph on her face at that moment was something I wanted. She wasn’t pretty, cute or sexy. It was like looking at raw power. It was very motivating for me.
